Bill, We are so happy you and your family enjoyed the cabin and that we could share our special place with you! And although we inadvertantly left off the "cleanliness" rating, our care taker told us you left the property immaculate and we give you 5 stars for that and thank you for caring about our family cabin as if it were your own!
My crew and I stayed at this VRBO for the Northern Night festival and it was amazing! Our artist was performing there and we needed a big place to hold us all. Tamara was amazing the cabin was perfect!
Great place to unplug with the family. The river is perfect for kids and just staying at the cabin was relaxing and fun for everyone. Will definitely come back!

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! It's our slice of heaven. We will begin booking for 2024 in late January. Please feel free to contact us to reserve your next stay around that time!
This cabin is fantastic, this was our second visit and we enjoyed it
more than the previous year, even with the heat wave there is plenty of shade on the deck and the rest of property to stay out of the sun, we played pingpong, walked on along the river, and relaxed on the beautiful and spacious deck.

This house is truly special. Set in a beautiful wooded area, the home has a beautiful, quiet view of the river. I’ve never stayed in such a well equipped, everything-you-need Vrbo, and this place truly has it all, while also being cozy and charming. The host Tamara is super friendly and communicative. We had a great week exploring the area and enjoying this perfect house. Not to be missed!

Lovely Getaway
What a wonderful cabin! Everything was perfect. My husband, son (19) and I all enjoyed the deck with its beautiful view, playing ping pong, making a fire outdoors, cooking in the spacious and well-equipped kitchen, going on walks along the river, and learning about the interesting history of the cabin. I loved perusing your old National Geographic magazines. To sum up, a relaxing spot to enjoy special family time together! Catherine

Catherine,
We are so thrilled you treasured your time at our family cabin. Indeed, there is a lot of history there. Our family has grown up 5 generations there and it truly means a lot to us that you felt comfortable there and took advantage of all that it has to offer! Please keep us in mind again, when you are wanting another get away in the redwoods!

What a beautiful cabin and property. Loved the fact that there were no tv’s or wi-fi. It was so nice to be unplugged for several days; it gave us the opportunity to have real family time around the campfire. I would absolutely stay here again. It was perfect distance between the redwoods, Eureka, Shelter Cove, and Ferndale (best milk I’ve ever had). Although I wish the river was higher so we could fish but from what we’ve read it was the wrong time of year (July) for that. Even still this place was AMAZING! Thank you

Jana,
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and truly felt what we as a family cherish about this amazing place - family and connection and being “unplugged”.
Please remember us the next time you visit the California Redwoods.
Amazing experience! Kids loved the location and river. Ping pong table and tether ball were a hit. We must have missed this, but be aware, there is no TV or internet. It was great to unplug for three nights though and we loved having the kids away from screens. Also if you can, do the drive to Shelter Cove. It was awesome. Thanks Tamara!
Tamara has stocked the house with everything you’ll need, and you can tell how much love has gone into looking after it. We actually felt like we were family guests, and that added to the positive experience. The location is superb, and we had an amazing hike in Rockefeller forest. If we’d known how good the house and its setting were, we would have booked longer. We tried to stay in 2020, and 2021, but were thwarted by Covid, and it’s only thanks to Tamara and her family that agreed to successive postponements, that we got to stay at High Pines- Thank You very much!
Brian, and big English family
We were from out of town attending our sons wedding and wanted a house for a large group of people to stay in. We wanted to be able to cook and have meals at home. The house had charm, history and was very homey. Everything we needed was there. We wish we would have had time to just sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery and quietness. Loved the deck!

The property was absolutely perfect! And I have to give a huge shout out to Tamara. The communication and attention to detail was amazing. Our family had the best time being back in our old neighborhood, reliving our childhood and making new memories. We will be back!
It was really nice to stay in this historic cabin. The family history of this place is amazing.

This place was wonderful, exceeding all of our expectations! I was looking for a place in the redwoods and close to the beach. This was the perfect location and property offered so much, shuffle board, ping pong, games, river play, and more! The communication with the owner was excellent. I highly recommend this VRBO!

We are so glad you enjoyed our cabin and all it has to offer. If you are ever out our way again, please let us know! We'd love to have you back.
We had such an incredible stay in this cabin tucked away in the trees. From the moment we arrived, we felt very at home. The cabin itself is rustic and comfortable, very clean and well stocked with everything you could possibly need. And SOOOO much space. The grounds are stunning. My favorite part was waking up early in the morning, sitting out on the beautiful deck, and listening to the birds and the breeze rustling through the trees. We had two little ones with us and they loved the playhouse, ping pong, and most of all playing in the river. We are a large family, and the fire pit was the spot where we all gravitated to in the evenings, while cooking on the outdoor BBQ. This cabin is the perfect spot whether you are looking for a quiet retreat to decompress, or a vacation full of outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking, and visiting the nearby attractions. We would love to stay again someday! One final note: Bring water shoes! the river is great for exploring:)

This beautiful homey cabin in the woods was everything we hoped it would be . . .and more. Comfortable, welcoming, spotlessly clean, and well-stocked for relaxing, cooking, playing, watching the river flow by, listening to the birds and each others' stories.

Part of the family
The history of the cabin along with the beautiful river so close by was ideal for our family. Plenty of space for the kids to explore with things to do: games, toys, tree house, river, and just hanging out. We felt like one of the family with the family’s generosity. It’s definitely an ideal cabin for anyone to relax. We can’t wait to come back again.

Such a fantastic home, location & family! Highly recommend
This was truly one of my best experiences EVER renting a vacation home & I rent several times per year. Tamara was gracious, helpful, & professional every step of the way. Her welcoming demeanor felt like we were family.
The home (compound really) is gorgeous!! Perfect for large families or reunions. The kitchen was beautiful & fully equipped. Loved it. The large deck looking out over the Eel River was heaven. What a view. The fire pit area was like being at a 5 star resort space. Lots of s’mores & relaxation. Last but not least this home is river front. Absolutely tranquil you will not be disappointed. Loved loved loved this home & can't wait to plan the next trip.

Great cabin for groups or a large family!
Such a great time! There were nine of us and we had more than enough space. Kitchen has everything you could possibly need. Treehouse and shuffle board were a hit with the kids. Nice shallow area on the river, great for littles to play. We floated down to the public beach and found jumping rocks and swimming areas along the way.

About the host
Hosted by Tamara Shewmaker
Our grandfather was the primary medical doctor for most of Humboldt County during the 1920s to the 1950s. It was obvious that he needed a vacation spot far enough away to feel removed, but close enough that if he got the call, he could jump in his truck to tend to his patients needs. The Scotia Sawmill was one of his biggest customers as a a result, he bought the land for the cabin from the sawmill to build this "vacation spot" for family.
Why they chose this property
Love and care were put into the original building of the cabin at Redway…. the main cabin has pure, old growth redwood with no knots and a beautiful stone fireplace (rocks from the Eel hand picked for it). And the renovation was equally done with love and a need to cherish our family legacy. The cabin has been a family rendezvous every summer since it was built. This property was divided into 7 parcels….all of which went to the 3 children of the doctor except 1 parcel to his and our grandmother’s best friends. All still have their parcel – cabin and property.
We all love Redway and look at it as a family legacy. We know you will enjoy this wonderful place as much as we do!
