Vacation in the small picturesque town of Nemo where several of the old mining town's structures are still standing and some, like ours, the old school teacher's cabin, have been totally refurbished. There is a queen bed in the master bedroom, twins that convert to king in the loft and twin bunk beds (built in and sturdy). Built in 1929, our cottage is the perfect vacation getaway while visiting the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. This adorable cottage offers privacy and convenience. It is the only vacation home that is located in the town of Nemo, is on its own parcel of land, is not on a dirty gravel road and is not a manufactured/mobile home. We give you all the privacy one would expect when renting an entire property. All of our guests have absolutely loved our cottage, especially enjoying the one-of-a-kind wrap around covered deck. The Nemo Cottage, sitting on a wooded lot, offers all of the comforts of home. The property is surrounded by beautiful hills, trees and wildlife. After spending your days experiencing all of the sights that the Black Hills have to offer, you will enjoy returning to this tranquil setting and relaxing on the covered front porch. We provide almost everything that you will need for your vacation rental, including breakfast items and a bottle of wine! Recently this cottage was refurbished with all new paint and freshly varnished antique wood floors, new gas fireplace and central vac. This cottage is adorable and is styled in mid-century modern furnishings. This one and a half story cottage has the master bedroom and a loft bedroom upstairs and the main floor consists of a full-size kitchen and bath, laundry room, living room and two porches. One porch was converted to a bunk room and the other is covered and spans the entire front of the cottage, as well as ¾ of each side. We just added an air conditioner.
Nemo is located centrally between Rapid City and Sturgis. From Rapid City you take Nemo Road enjoying gorgeous views of the canyons and Box Elder Creek, which follows along Nemo Road. From Sturgis you take Vanocker Canyon Road, which is about the most beautiful ride you can experience in the Black Hills. The town of Nemo offers hiking, horseback riding and dining at the historic Brandin’ Iron Café and is within 30 minutes of Deadwood. Also, our quaint town is centrally located to all the other Black Hills attractions, including Mt. Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, Wonderland Caves, Spearfish Canyon, Custer, Crazy Horse and the Badlands.
Bring your motorcycles! You will be amazed at the quality of riding in the area. Vanocker Canyon, Spearfish Canyon, Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, Custer Wildlife Loop all make excellent circle tours from the cottage. Not to mention the legendary Sturgis which is 20 minutes away. Nemo Road, a favorite of motorcycle enthusiasts, goes right through town, so enjoy a safe paved road to the cottage. The carport provides protection for the bikes from any summer storms.
Bring your mountain bike! The 111-mile Centennial Trail goes right through Nemo.
ATV owners enjoy expansive trails in the Black Hills National Forest which is The Cottage at Nemo’s background. Nemo holds the yearly Black Hills ATV Rally.
Want to fish? The owner’s residence is located across the street and the property’s entire north and west borders have a brook trout stream running along them. If you wish to fish on that property we ask that you practice Catch and Release. No barbs or bait, please. If you would like to fish on a small lake, Lake Reausaw is just 6 miles up Nemo road. You will find hefty rainbow trout there and they can be caught and kept if you have a license. If you aren’t a fly-fisherman, use lures, worms or green power bait.
Want to bring your horses? You can set up corrals on our 16 acres across the street. Need a place to store a trailer? You are welcome to do so, as well. If you want to ride but don’t have your horse along, there is a trail riding outfit across the street.
During Rally the Volunteer Fire Dept has full breakfast every day. For the rest of the summer, you can find breakfast at the Nemo Guest Ranch or some of the other local eateries.
