Two bedroom, and loft- sleeps six. Historic home with Mountain View.
Vacation in the small picturesque town of Nemo where several of the old mining town's structures are still standing and some, like ours, the old school teacher's cabin, have been totally refurbished. There is a queen bed in the master bedroom, twins that convert to king in the loft and twin bunk beds (built in and sturdy). Built in 1929, our cottage is the perfect vacation getaway while visiting the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. This adorable cottage offers privacy and convenience. It is the only vacation home that is located in the town of Nemo, is on its own parcel of land, is not on a dirty gravel road and is not a manufactured/mobile home. We give you all the privacy one would expect when renting an entire property. All of our guests have absolutely loved our cottage, especially enjoying the one-of-a-kind wrap around covered deck. The Nemo Cottage, sitting on a wooded lot, offers all of the comforts of home. The property is surrounded by beautiful hills, trees and wildlife. After spending your days experiencing all of the sights that the Black Hills have to offer, you will enjoy returning to this tranquil setting and relaxing on the covered front porch. We provide almost everything that you will need for your vacation rental, including breakfast items and a bottle of wine! Recently this cottage was refurbished with all new paint and freshly varnished antique wood floors, new gas fireplace and central vac. This cottage is adorable and is styled in mid-century modern furnishings. This one and a half story cottage has the master bedroom and a loft bedroom upstairs and the main floor consists of a full-size kitchen and bath, laundry room, living room and two porches. One porch was converted to a bunk room and the other is covered and spans the entire front of the cottage, as well as ¾ of each side. We just added an air conditioner.
Nemo is located centrally between Rapid City and Sturgis. From Rapid City you take Nemo Road enjoying gorgeous views of the canyons and Box Elder Creek, which follows along Nemo Road. From Sturgis you take Vanocker Canyon Road, which is about the most beautiful ride you can experience in the Black Hills. The town of Nemo offers hiking, horseback riding and dining at the historic Brandin’ Iron Café and is within 30 minutes of Deadwood. Also, our quaint town is centrally located to all the other Black Hills attractions, including Mt. Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, Wonderland Caves, Spearfish Canyon, Custer, Crazy Horse and the Badlands.
Bring your motorcycles! You will be amazed at the quality of riding in the area. Vanocker Canyon, Spearfish Canyon, Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, Custer Wildlife Loop all make excellent circle tours from the cottage. Not to mention the legendary Sturgis which is 20 minutes away. Nemo Road, a favorite of motorcycle enthusiasts, goes right through town, so enjoy a safe paved road to the cottage. The carport provides protection for the bikes from any summer storms.
Bring your mountain bike! The 111-mile Centennial Trail goes right through Nemo.
ATV owners enjoy expansive trails in the Black Hills National Forest which is The Cottage at Nemo’s background. Nemo holds the yearly Black Hills ATV Rally.
Want to fish? The owner’s residence is located across the street and the property’s entire north and west borders have a brook trout stream running along them. If you wish to fish on that property we ask that you practice Catch and Release. No barbs or bait, please. If you would like to fish on a small lake, Lake Reausaw is just 6 miles up Nemo road. You will find hefty rainbow trout there and they can be caught and kept if you have a license. If you aren’t a fly-fisherman, use lures, worms or green power bait.
Want to bring your horses? You can set up corrals on our 16 acres across the street. Need a place to store a trailer? You are welcome to do so, as well. If you want to ride but don’t have your horse along, there is a trail riding outfit across the street.
During Rally the Volunteer Fire Dept has full breakfast every day. For the rest of the summer, you can find breakfast at the Nemo Guest Ranch or some of the other local eateries.

About Traci Rambo
Bruce and I live in Nemo with our dogs, cats and horses. We just started a garden in 2016 and in 2017 will be working on building another cabin on a parcel that is across Nemo Road from the cottage. Bruce is a computer engineer and I am a retired realtor.
Traci Rambo purchased this Cottage in 2011
Why Traci Rambo chose Nemo
We purchased this property so that we could host our friends, family and guests.
What makes this Cottage unique
This property is unique in that it is the only cottage with privacy that is available to stay in that is actually right in the town of Nemo. Others say they are in Nemo, however, most are miles away. Our property is stand alone and no one else lives on the property. We also decorated it midcentury modern which no one else has done. We take great care of the property and want all guests to have a wonderful experience. We appreciate you sharing your experiences as a review. Thank you.

A true gem!
This place is fantastic! A lovely cottage close to Custer State Park, which is amazing, and of course, Mt. Rushmore, Sturgis, and Deadwood. It's in a lovely small town surrounded by beauty on every side.
Inside, it is decorated in Mid-Century Modern, down to the tiniest details. There is a vintage TV whose insides have been replaced with a computer for all the streaming services, a fireplace retrofitted with super-realistic gas logs that operate on a thermostat to maintain even heat, a crazy ceiling-hung light fixture with a remote control that changes color and intensity, great laundry room with huge washer and dryer, perfect little kitchen, fully equipped, two bedrooms and a charming bunk room off the kitchen, all done in gorgeous colors and with great style.
The wraparound porch is outfitted with comfortable furniture for dining and lounging. There's a huge yard in back with another dining set, more cozy furniture, and even two vintage bicycles.
Upstairs, the main bedroom has a modern TV with DVD player, and more lovely MCM furniture. The beds are extremely comfortable with great mattresses and nice linens.
Hosts are readily available for questions, yet respect your privacy completely. The house is immaculately clean and well-maintained.
We would definitely stay here again!
Thank you for choosing our home and for your amazing review! Your decription of your experience is exactly what we strived for. Your visit was our last for the season, and to end on such a high note makes us so very grateful. Thank you, again.
My husband and I stayed for a 4 day weekend and couldn't have been happier. Traci was a wonderful host. The property was immaculate and Traci thought of everything, we just had to show up with our suitcases. We would definitely stay again.
Perfect and Peaceful
Charming, Clean, and Comfortable cottage in the small town of Nemo, SD. Out of the way, but a short drive to all of the area's attractions including Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Deadwood, and more. The cottage is recently remodeled with attention to every detail, quality furnishings, and special additions. The vintage TV, refitted to watch streaming TV and movies, was very cool and prompted me to attempt to build my own.
Traci and Bruce are wonderful hosts and have thought of everything. The cottage comes fully stocked with everything we needed for a family of four. Paper goods, spices, and even bottles of wine, eggs, yogurt and other breakfast items were waiting for us.
We enjoyed the yard games, propane grill, and even a propane fire pit for the mandatory vacation smores ritual. Air conditioning in the second floor sleeping area helped stave off a midsummer South Dakota heat wave, but once the sun went down it was windows open for the cool breezes after coming in from the spacious wrap-around porch.
We highly recommend this property and can't wait to come back next time we are in the area.
Such an adorable cabin in a small town close enough to Mount Rushmore and other attractions. The house was stocked with anything you could need. Comfortable beds, cute decor, loved the retro tv! Just make sure to get there before dark, little challenging to find after sunset. Thank you for the wonderful getaway!
Thank you, Becky! We are installing a solar powered sign next week.😊
Great Place to End a Long Week
My family and I planned a trip to Yellowstone and the Black Hills and this is the place that we stayed towards the end of our vacation. We had the pleasure of meeting Traci when we arrived. She was very friendly and suggested things for us to do while we were in town. The house was AMAZING. It was well stocked and the seating outside was so comfortable. It was the perfect place to buckle down to each night after a day of adventures. WiFi was spotty but that's due to the location, not the owners fault and honestly it was a blessing to get my kids off their games/tablets. Also, my son left his prized possession (his stuffed animal puppy) and Traci notified us immediately. Unfortunately, we were 5 hours away and could not turn around to get it. My son was so bummed out. Traci mailed it to us the following Monday and we got it within a couple of days. We are so lucky that she was kind enough to mail Froggy Bear (don't ask) home. You will not be disappointed staying here. It was the perfect end to a long week for us.
Could not of made us more comfortable or feel more at home
