We loved the updates! Gorgeous ceilings, nice dock, great to have the kayak, canoe, pedal boat, excellent location for shopping and eating! Well stocked with kitchen supplies and linens. The croquet set was a blast on the side yard! Beds a little stiff but excellent vacation home all around

Clean, well appointed cottage
The best part of renting this cottage was the location. Only a five minute drive from the town of Damariscotta and the lake front was marvelous! We saw geese and loons everyday from the dock, and the use of the kayak and canoe was well appreciated. It was too shallow though for swimming or fishing off the dock.
The beds were very comfortable, and everything that we needed was there at the cabin from paper towels and toilet paper to all the pots and pans that we could want. They even supplied an umbrella! It was also very clean.
One negative I can say is there isn’t comfortable seating. And despite being instructed to “spin the ceiling fan with a broom handle to get it started” we found the fan to be broken. And the week we were there was a 90 degree one! They did supply plenty of table fans though.

The Fan is not broken!
My cleaning lady, myself and guests, after your stay, all turned on the Fan with no problem. Checked it again this weekend and it turned on right away.
Perhaps you forgot to turn it on by the wall Switch as was mentioned in the housekeeping
list that is sent to each of our guests?
Thanks for your comments.

Enjoyable. The cabin sits at the end of a quiet road along a lovely part of the Lake.
We enjoyed ourselves at the cabin. The location on the lake was lovely, although there was an unexpected view of and sound from a two-lane highway to one side. The cabin was small, with two of the bedrooms connected to each other, so you had to walk through one to get to the other. Would be fine for small kids, when privacy is not an issue. (We have two grown sons and a daughter-in-law, however). The efficiency kitchen was minimally equipped and serious cooking was a challenge. Cutting boards, griddle and reasonable frying pans would be good additions. The outdoor grill arrangement was good. The dining room porch looking out at the lake was lovely. The living room and dock furniture was beat and could use and update. There was not a comfortable seat in the house or yard. Despite shortcomings, we had a sweet time. Maine is magical.

This obviously was not the appropriate fit for young honeymooners needing privacy with three other adults onboard.....nor is the Cottage intended to compete with NYC hotels .... this is Maine ... the way life should be!
The cottage has charm and was good for four adaptable adults. One bedroom (twin beds) is tricky because you enter by passing through another bedroom. The bedrooms don't have closets so we used the entryway closet. And the washer/dryer is a single unit, which none of us had ever seen before, and it seemed quite magical. We were there at the right time for fall colors and they were stunning.
Clean, well equipped cottage close to Damariscotta. Lovely dining room with great view of the lake. Pleasant outside areas for relaxing and watching the water and for playing lawn games. Owner very responsive. We didn't fish but saw fishermen out early every morning.. Enjoyed the canoe and kayak.

Lovely cottage in perfect location for a family visit. Highly recommended.
The lovely quiet cottage is at the end of a remote road and sits on the lake itself (kayak, canoe and pedalo included). The cottage is cozy but was certainly spacious enough for 4 of us, with a great living room, separate dining area and fantastic barbecue on the deck. The view over the lake is also stunning, particularly at sunrise. The cottage was clean and well equipped and had everything we needed and an excellent washing machine (important with kids). The only thing to be aware of is one bedroom leads off another (not a problem for families) and the bedrooms are a good size. The nearby town of Damirascotta is just lovely and on this second visit it made us determined to come back again, even if it is a long way from the UK! Marie, the owner made us feel very welcome, and was very responsive to my queries leading up to our stay. I would definitely recommend the cottage highly.

Great lake trip
Cottage was perfect for family of 4 with two teenagers. kids had separate rooms and shared bathroom. Owners were very responsive to questions right before and during stay. Swimming isn't easy from the dock as the water is shallow, but being at the end of the lake it was good for exercise type of swimming since you can swim across without worrying about motor boats. The paddle boat, canoe and kayak were great for fishing or heading to other locations at this end of the lake. Really convenient location to town. Kitchen is small, but perfect for a week of vacation. Grill worked great. Beautiful views from the dock, and dock easily accommodated 7 of us in the evening. Sitting area around the fire pit also is nice.

A lovely, well equipped cottage. Great location!
We enjoyed our 2 week stay at Golden Meadow Cottage. Ken and Marie have equipped it with everything you need. The setting is peaceful and you can observe ducks, egrets and even eagles on the lake! In a few minutes you can be in Damariscotta with good restaurants, Maine crafts and the best secondhand bookstore we have ever seen! There are a multitude of nature trails close by and don't forget to see the Fish Ladder!

Wonderful cottage inside and out..
Simply beautiful, iron needed one was provided..ironing board was not usable..thanks for getting us one..
The ONLY complaint was the mattress...we all had problems with the sounds when you moved...so we went to single beds and was more comfortable...the. Other couple needed the queen bed but they said they rolled to the middle....and they were up early due to their backs hurting..
I never stayed in a place so well stocked...we used VRBO many times in many states...Hope you found everything in good condition when we left..
We were sorry we are to old for paddle boat, canoe, etc..
We loved the lake...the animals..etc...would highly recommend your cottage.
Many thanks

A tranquil cottage in beautiful surroundings.., magical.. Maine at its best!
My partner and I, along with my parents visited in early June of this year from Stratford upon Avon in the UK,. Prior to booking this cottage, I must admit, I did reserch numerous other properties, because I truly wanted to ensure the place we booked catered for all our needs as this returning trip meant a lot to my family & I.
Simply put, this property was amazing from the moment we drove down the lane.. not only was it spacious, but truly tranquil with beaitiful surroundings, but also it was welcoming and well maintained, exactly as described in the orginal brief..
We can't speak highly enough about this cottage... it had everything we needed and gave us all, two amazing weeks that won't ever be forgotten.
We made well use of boats on offer.. from the canoe, kayak and even the paddle boat.. we would take this over (directly opposite from the cottage) to watch the bald eagels in their nest and watch as their mother took to the sky.. again breathtaking moments!!
Another recommendation, that if you are an early riser like I.. is to take out the old town kayak early morning, as the mist is rolling off the water.. so peaceful and perfectly quiet..
The location was also ideal..a short drive from downtown damariscotta, and close to all other key points of interests.. boothbay harbour is a must.
In summery... we all give this ten out of ten.. and would recommend this fully.. for us.. it's only a matter of time until we make it back again..so enjoy!
A special thank you to Ken & Maria for making us feel so welcome..

Perfect place for a vacation.
The cottage on the lake was wonderful. It was in a beautiful location on the lake. We enjoyed sitting down on the dock sipping wine, fishing and listening to the loons.
The cottage had everything we needed. The kitchen was well equipped with dinnerware, pots and pans, glassware and utensils. The only thing we needed to bring was food! We especially loved the dining area with its large windows overlooking the lake. All the rooms were tastefully decorated. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had.

Great family vacation!
We had a great time at Golden Meadow Cottage!! Marie and Ken provide a clean, well appointed 3 bedroom cottage! Although the bedrooms aren't spacious, for our family of 4 adults and a toddler, we had plenty of room. Having 2 full baths was great and it seems that there was an endless supply of hot water. We found the kitchen to be well stocked with all the cooking supplies that we could have ever needed. The screened in porch was our favorite room; we enjoyed eating our meals overlooking the lake. In the evenings we loved sitting by the fire pit, making s'mores and listening to the loons.
Additionally, the cottage is located on a beautiful part of the lake. We enjoyed sitting on the dock as well as dipping our feet in the water (too cold for swimming). Exploring in the 2 man kayak was lots of fun. When we discovered the eagle's nest across the lake, we were thrilled that there were binoculars for us to use. Also, we appreciated having the paddle boat because my grandson wasn't comfortable in the kayak or canoe. Also, the cottage has wifi, tv and other rainy day entertainment options. Plus, Marie went out of her way to make sure that there were things for my grandson too. When we arrived there were library books and games for him. All the attention to details helped to make our vacation very enjoyable! We recommend staying here!

About the host
Hosted by Marie McDermott
I am a New Englander from Massachusetts who grew up in a small town outside of Boston.
Maine has always been in my heart spending summers in the Newcastle/Damariscotta area where my family has roots.
For the past 40 years, I summered in Maine with my family enjoying all that Maine has to offer.
I have traveled extensively throughout the United States from coast to coast and have come to realize that there are few places that compare to the beauty of the Maine Coast !
We have been in love with Maine through the years continually building friendships and building our own "Maine Cottage". We thoroughly enjoy the Summers here, Spring and Fall , and on occasion, Winter! It has been our retreat and our home away from home.
Not too long ago we bought a cottage and 6+ acres of golden meadow on Damariscotta Lake hoping to impart the wonderful Maine experience to others; thus, "Golden Meadow Cottage" evolved.
We renovated it from top to bottom, inside and out, in hopes to make it the perfect Maine cottage for a perfect summer vacation.
It has exceeded our dream and expectations and we are extremely proud of it. Through Golden Meadow Cottage, we hope you will discover and experience the same enjoyment and pleasures that we have come to know here in Maine ..... "THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE" ......!
