We loved the house and the view and would love to do it again but it needs to be cleaned a little better. The fridge was dirty and the bedspreads could be washed. The basement is pretty musty smelling but we figured that goes with the territory.
Thank you for the review. The refrigerator issue is being addressed as we speak (the current one that is over 20 years old is being replaced this winter). In terms of cleaning and the bedspreads, we are at the end of the season and now have some time to catch up on a few things that happened during the vacation season including carpet cleaning or items that need replacing, . Our cottage changeover cleaner does the best that she can and I pitch in for her when I am able and schedules permit and both of us try to keep up with things. We are currently addressing the musty smell issue in the basement, too, as best we can. And yes, you're right, that comes with the territory.
Please feel free to keep us in mind for the future
Update 2/7/18 - there is a brand-new refrigerator in place (the old one has been disposed of) and the bedspread is now stain-free and all bedspreads and linens in the house will be thoroughly washed and cleaned for the season.
Well equipped accommodations with an excellent view.
Our party of 5 adults found this house perfect for our needs. The kitchen is well equipped and it was very easy to prepare meals. The view from most rooms is outstanding and the long back porch facing the water is a real highlight. Would return to this rental house in the future.
Thank you - we really appreciate it. I'm glad that you had a great vacation at our home and everything went well. Please keep us in mind for your future travel plans to the Boothbay area.
Excellent river view
Family run retirement home with ample space for 6 guests. Home retains sense of former residents as much of the decor is in keeping w the vintage of the house. Clean, two full baths but guests must manage trash and laundry. Quiet serene private setting away from the bustle of Boothbay. Close to great hiking at Boothbay regional land trust
Great water views in a quiet location
Our family of 5 spent four days at Heron Cove in July, 2017. The house is comfortable and definitely has room for everyone to spread out. The views from the deck are wonderful, especially with the osprey nest right across the way. Chicks in the nest, parents busy feeding them, what a show! This was our first time in the Boothbay Harbor area, and we loved it. The botanical garden right down the road is amazing, we did a couple of the hikes in the Boothbay Regional Land Trust, spent a couple of afternoons walking around Boothbay Harbor, watched the Fourth of July fireworks from the Oceanarium lawn, and took the Hardy Boat Tour from New Harbor to view puffins.
The bathroom renovation looks great and the bedrooms are comfortable. My kids enjoyed playing ping pong in the basement, which has a bit of a musty smell. Wish some of the bushes in the front were cut back so we had a better view of the water, and access to the water (a simple dock) would be great. I know the river is tidal, so that presents challenges.
Thank you for the review. Yes, the bushes have been cut back this fall - an annual chore (and hopefully won't grow too much next spring but they may need some pruning next summer). We have considered putting in a dock and thus have better access to the waterfront but the cost of that project would be prohibitive. Yes, you're correct, it is tidal and that presents several challenges in it's own right. Glad you enjoyed your time there and we hope to be able to have you as a guest in the future.
Plenty of room in a lovely location
Five of us enjoyed a winter weekend at this property. There was abundant sleeping and living space, a big kitchen with ample storage and room to spread out, and a great table to gather around for meals and games. The area is stunningly beautiful, and each morning we watched the birds in the water out front, including a pair of bald eagles cruising the area. It was a very easy drive to Hannafords supermarket, a YMCA (for those of us needing their gym fix), and Boothbay Harbor. Lisa was very nice to work with, very responsive and helpful, and even offered a late checkout when she realized we were leaving on Superbowl Sunday. The only reason I'm not rating this a 5 is there seems to be a mold issue. 3 of the 5 people in our group reacted to it and needed to take Benadryl or use their asthma inhalers with frequency. Otherwise, it was a perfect stay and we really enjoyed it!
The mold/mildew problem is mostly in one of the bathrooms and that issue is being addressed as we speak - the bathroom is being totally renewed with all new walls, fixtures, cabinets, etc.
Thank you for bring that issue to our attention.
very nice, quiet
This was perfect for a quiet, off-season week spent working on a novel. Neighbors were nearly invisible. The house has full amenities, heat, beautiful view, few distractions, a big enough yard for kids to run around in, tide-pooling at low tide, and proximity to Boothbay Harbor when you want restaurants and tchotchkes. Good-sized grocery store 5 minutes away. Patronize the good folks at Red Cup Coffee House. Enjoy Italian food at Port, and try the haddock chowder at Oak Street Provisions.
I had trouble finding the place because I arrived when it was dark and missed a key turn, but during the day it is easy to find, and very close to the botanical gardens (closed off-season).
Three Nature Trails All Within One Mile, Two Boat/Kayak Launching Ramps and Waterfront Park Within 1/4 Mile, Many of the Commercial Kayak Tours in the Area Launch at Our Island, and Award Winning YMCA Within Three Miles. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is also a mile away.
