2 bedroom, 1.5 bath, with wide open great room/kitchen, pool, and beach access
Bob and Dru reside in Charlotte, NC, with our two kids, and have traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean over the last 20 years, always looking for the island we would retire to along the way. When we finally hit St. Croix, we knew this was it - the perfect balance of unspoiled beauty and local culture. Being less heavily traveled than many of the islands, the reefs are pristine and the people that live here warm and friendly.
Bob purchased this House in 2015
Why Bob chose Kingshill
I (Dru) am an artist and a gardener. When I first set foot in Moonwalk, I was ready to go back to the realtor's office and write a contract without even touring the house. The design of the house is so well done, with a clean mid century modern feel that perfectly marries the outdoors in St. Croix with a very comfortable and aesthetic living space.
What makes this House unique
Moonwalk has it all for us. It is on the ocean and yet has gardens around the house. We fall asleep at night with the breeze blowing through the windows, the sound of the waves below us, and tree frogs and crickets singing along. The view out the master bedroom and off the balcony is a postcard; we've spend many hours there watching the sun rise with coffee or watching the stars come out with a cocktail of local Cruzan rum. The north shore has little light pollution so a usual night sky is one with a diamond dust of millions of stars. Moonwalk was built by a ship builder and the inside of the house certainly reflects this -there are recycled salt-soaked timbers through the house and it has a real mid century modern eco feel. In the front courtyard are stone salvaged from a sugar plantation as well as a large copper kettle that was used a couple hundred years ago processing sugar, and is now a water garden, home to koi and guppies. Off the back deck and pool, the gate leads you down to the ironstone beach where there are tide polls and small sandy beaches, perfect for hunting sea glass , sea urchin shells, puka shells and driftwood. The beach is usually deserted and you can walk well down the coast.

Beautiful and relaxing
This home is beautiful inside and outside! Outside, the landscape and seascape are so beautiful that you feel relaxed immediately. We even had an adorable iguana who would sun itself on the rocks -- my daughter loved it! Listening to the waves crash against the shore was so relaxing. The home itself was clean, bright, modern, and welcoming. We relaxed near the pool everyday and on the upper deck every evening. the owners and caretakers are very friendly, responsive, and helpful. I would highly recommend this place and we plan to stay here again!
Can't beat these views!!
We had a fabulous time at Moonwalk! Bob was easy to work with and quick to reply and the house is just as pictured. The views and sound of waves from the house are breathtaking. We loved walking down to the shore from the house (it is rocky, but great for feeling the ocean spray) and watching the pelicans dive. The pool area needs some love - a lot of loose and missing tiles and low water level, but I know that's something the owner's plan on revamping.
Regardless, it was a great spot to cool off in the mornings and evenings (some evening pool lighting would be a great addition). I'm not going to lie - it was HOT. Outside and inside, but it was the end of August and we expected that. We even camped in the living room a few nights because it was a tad cooler. There is an upside to visiting during the summer months - less tourists! We pretty much had the beaches to ourselves and didn't need to worry about booking things in advance and could just do as we pleased each day instead of having everything scheduled. We explored Christiansted, snorkeled at Pelican Cove, rented jet skis at Rainbow Beach (near Frederiksted .. this was our favorite beach - so crystal clear) and rented a zayak (like a body board with a clear viewing space for your head so you can see the sea bottom). We also drove to Point Udall (gorgeous drive!) - looked like good snorkeling there. We also did lots of snorkeling at Cane Bay Beach (you can also do shore dives there out to "the wall"). Took a drive through some rainforest roads (glad we rented a Jeep b/c several times during our mapless explorations the roads would start out okay and then turn into rubble and ruts). Had plans to go to Buck Island, but time ran away from us. As far as food goes - do your research - dining out and buying groceries are expensive on the island. Eat @ Cane Bay was pretty good and Above the Cliff was more of a bar scene, but very friendly and decent food. We ate at The Bombay Club in Christiansted and weren't that impressed. The blackened mahi bites at Rhythmns @ Rainbow Beach were my fave. The house has everything you would need to cook at home as well. Our daughter's favorite part of the house was all of the lizards and hermit crabs - she got pinched twice, but was still in awe. Overall a gorgeous property and a beautiful island. Not a ton of "island culture", but a great escape from our city life. Thank you, Bob & Dru for opening up your home to us travelers.
If you are looking for an amazing get away to St. Croix look no further! The Moonwalk property is a DREAM! I was looking for a place that would provide seclusion, the feel of living like a local as well as a pool and close proximity to the beach. This has it all! The property itself is exactly as pictured, the view from the balcony is stunning, you can see the sunrise and sunset, you constantly have the sound of waves hitting the rocks, which I already miss falling asleep too.
We took the suggestion of eating at a few local places, Above the Wall, Eat at Cane Bay and both were very good. We walked to Cane Bay Beach and enjoyed the beautiful beach and some drinks at Spratnet which had good service. You can drive but if you like to enjoy the weather and walk it is an easy walk.
We also took the suggestions of renting a car and seeing the whole island. We truly enjoyed Frederiksted and HIGHLY recommend the Beach Side Café, the food was amazing, the view stunning and the beach was beautiful.
The boardwalk at Christiansted was a great place to visit, we had lunch at Shupe's on the boardwalk and it was delicious, we snorkeled half day at Buck Island and it was the best snorkeling experience we've ever had. We also suggest the bio-luminescent kayak Salt River Bay, if you enjoy kayaking and experiencing a very unique glow of the water you can't see everywhere you will enjoy this.
Lastly but not least, the owners are fantastic! Very easy to work with, quick responses and great recommendations. The onsite property manager Phillip is awesome, we had an experience where the power went out for quite sometime on our first full day, Bob prepared us for this but it was off longer than expected so when I reached out to Phillip to double check there wasn't anything I needed to do, not only did he follow up via text/phone but he personally stopped by the next day to make sure we were all ok.
Overall we had an amazing time, before we left we were already planning our next trip back to this property as soon as we can!
Unique loft style Island Oasis with Amazing Ocean views & a pool, perfect for a post beach day dip
I recently stayed for 7 nights and Moonwalk with 3 of my close friends. When we arrived, the place was just what we were hoping for. The open style lofted ceilings provide an open airy feeling, perfect for a beach vacation. While there is no a/c the ceiling fans and standing fans are just enough to keep you cool during the nights while you listen to the waves crash right outside your window. The views are amazing! While you are able to walk down to the beach, it is fairly rocky and a bit dangerous. Not really a big deal, as St. Croix has amazing beaches - we went to a different beach everyday. (Highly recommend snorkeling at Buck Island). The pool is perfect for taking a dip after you get home from the beach but we didn't spend much time at the house, aside from sleeping and cooking dinner. The house has all the amenities you need for cooking, a grill, and a blender for mixing up your favorite cocktail. There are two bedrooms, both with ocean views on the upper level. Also, a lofted living space sits outside the bedrooms with a couch that could be used to sleep on. Our time was spent outside by the pool or inside cooking in the kitchen or vegging after a long day at the beach on the couches downstairs. Plenty of seating room and we were able to hook up our Netflix and amazon account to stream movies at night. We rented a jeep for the week, which I highly highly recommend for getting around. While the island is not big, if you want to really explore all that it has to offer, a car is essential. The house was very secure with a gate at the entrance and security alarm so we left the top down every night. In my opinion, a vacation to St Croix is best had exploring the beaches, the downtown area, and all the island has to offer, not to be spent in doors. This house was a perfect place for us to rest our heads, cook and enjoy each others company over dinner and take a dip in the pool in the evening. Bob was super helpful and friendly and ensured that we knew where everything was and provided recommendations on where to visit for shopping, groceries, and beaches. I highly recommend this place if you are looking into visiting St. Croix :)
Moonwalk is a very special place, we had a wonderful time!
This is a great house in an awesome location! Cane Bay is a very quick walk from the house (my 5 year old did it easily). There are plenty of restaurants, bars, snorkel and scuba rentals right at Cane Bay. The lush rainforest area is a quick drive, and really fun to explore. Bob and Dru have thought of everything, the house is fully equipped. Comfey beds, plenty of towels and linins.
The sound of the ocean waves will put you to sleep every night! I hope to make it back one day.
We loved this location!
As we drove in, our first impression was a bit disappointing, not as we expected, the yard has so much potential, and I am sure it will be beautiful as time goes on, the owners haven't had the property too long. But the interior of the house was perfect! We wanted a low-key vacation, not having tons of people wherever we went. This island was just that. We loved the fact that the restaurants and beach were within walking distance. We made a new friend in the caretaker, Phillip. What a great guy!! And he was so willing to help us with anything we needed. We would definitely be interested in booking the property again.
We are so glad you enjoyed Moonwalk, and we hope you will return! It sounds like you might be a gardener as I am. Indeed, we have only had the place a short time. The yard was overgrown with invasive plants, which we recently removed to let the nearly choked out bougainvillea and frangipani flourish. If (and hopefully when!) you return you will see our garden as it matures . If you love plants as I do, I would also suggest visiting the botanical gardens on St Croix! They are quite lovely and there is a plant sale once a week (that is where I got the Baobab tree in the front yard).
We are located oceanfront on the north shore of St Croix. This side of the island is a lush rainforest and rich with vegetation and huge green sloping hills that lead down to beautiful beaches and clear turquoise water. The reef off the north shore provides the best snorkeling and diving on the island, and some of the best shore diving in the Caribbean - or anywhere for that matter. Cane Bay is a mini version of the north shore of Kauai - protected calm waters for swimming, snorkeling and diving, with the backdrop of the green hills behind. Restaurants, bars, and a dive shop are right off the water. The beach right off the back gate of the house is actually a series of beaches alternating with lava shelves, and is usually deserted. Perfect for beachcombing.
