About Catherine

We love Grass Valley and especially the downtown area. Owning a Victorian is a dream come true! Whenever we get a chance, our family vacations at A Victorian Rose. We enjoy sharing it's magic with others! People have taken their vows of marriage and honeymooned in our beautiful home.

Catherine purchased this house in 2005

Why Catherine chose Grass Valley

Grass Valley is a relaxing place compared to our home in the Bay Area. We love the trees, fresh air and the many indoor and outdoor activities in the area. One of our favorite things about A Victorian Rose is its walking proximity to the downtown wineries, restaurants and specialty shops.

What makes this house unique

When we stay at A Victorian Rose, we usually have some work to do to our 100+ year old girl or we tend the small gardens, but we don't mind it at all, because it has such a magical, relaxing atmosphere. We love getting up early, drinking our coffee and talking on the front porch (even when it snows)and in the evening unwinding in the relaxing, warm hot tub.

Guestbook comments from the owner

If you are going to spend time in the Grass Valley

area, I suggest you check out A Victorian Rose. It's a cute Victorian with all the conveniences of modern life. It is beautifully decorated, private and very clean. It sleeps enough people comfortably to bring the whole clan. It also

has two full bathrooms which worked nicely for our two

teenagers. They also made good use of the TV/DVD, spa

and game room. I like saving money by not dining out each meal and the kitchen is well designed and supplied with plenty of cooking gear. Downtown Grass Valley is a short walk away. The ski resorts are onlya one hour easy

drive away! I enjoyed my stay at A Victorian Rose and I plan to return.

We enjoyed a girls weekend at Victorian Rose that was fantastic; everyone wants to go back. The house offers every amenity and the location is near to downtown shops and restaurants. The fall colors were spectacular!

Charming Victorian with all the comforts of home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented A Victorian Rose for four nights that included July 4th. We wanted our two sons, their wives and three grandchildren to spend time together away from other obligations. We all had a wonderful experience.

The house was clean and well-equipped. The kitchen and laundry appliances are newish and worked well. The ice maker was particularly appreciated. The three couples each had a comfortable bedroom with a queen bed and the eight and ten-year-olds each had a room as well. With a toddler in the mix, we did move several delicate bowls and pitchers out of reach. The temperature was in the mid to high eighties so that we needed to regularly attend to forms of temperature control. This old house is not insulated. The house includes ceiling fans in two bedrooms, AC units in two rooms upstairs as well as the dining room and various fans strategically located throughout. At night we opened windows. The "man cave" is a converted two-car garage with a swamp cooler and two fans. This popular and spacious hangout included active games as well as toys, board games, a mini-fridge and television. Because of the heat we waited until the late evening to use the hot tub. Mornings and evenings we enjoyed sitting on the wrap-around porch. The house has so many nooks, gathering places and things to do that we could have just stayed on the property the entire time.

The owners provided three helpful binders. One for running the house with details about the appliances. One for local activities and restaurants and one including some of the history of the house and previous owners. In addition directions were posted near various things that needed to be turned on or adjusted.

Catherine called the evening we checked in to answer any questions we might have had. Very very appreciated!

A Victorian Rose is in a quiet tree-lined neighborhood about a ten minute walk from a Safeway and a short distance from Highway 49. Don't miss swimming in the Yuba River!

I highly recommend this home and area for a vacation.

Perfect setting for a perfect day!

  • 5 of 5

Such a setting for a wedding weekend! The Victorian Rose was the perfect place for my daughter, her bridal party and my husband and I to celebrate her big Day! With room for both the silly bridesmaid fun and quiet mother daughter moments, this was the perfect place. Well stocked kitchen, fun game room, comfortable beds. I cannot think of a better place to have stayed! Hostess Catherine was gracious and responsive to questions, putting us at ease. Highly recommended!

Charming, Versatile, and Convenient Victorian

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for a long weekend to celebrate our sons wedding but could have stayed much longer. It’s exterior charm is surpassed by the details within. Well equipped kitchen with parlor and dining room showcasing classic Victorian touches and furnishings throughout. Gorgeous garden was great for after the wedding breakfast! Very comfortable bedrooms, great hosts!

Would love to return!

Thank you Ross and Catherine!

a charming, comfortable house and garden

  • 5 of 5

We had an easy and wonderful 4-generation family weekend in this charming victorian with updated bathrooms and kitchen. The youngest were 3-6 years old and they loved the yard with seating tucked amongst the plants, toys and books in the play area, games, and the comfortable sleeping spaces. We all enjoyed the outdoor hot tub, beautiful gardens, comfortable beds and linens, ample towels, well supplied kitchen and easy walks to downtown Grass Valley.

Despite it's proximity to downtown it was a quiet and peaceful place. Very clean. Catherine was a wonderful host. We highly recommendThe Victorian Rose and hope to return again.
