Modern Log Cabin on Cascade Canal, 5 minutes to Downtown Nevada City

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Space 2,000 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cozy and comfortable, yet newer, authentic log cabin on 1.5 acres, just a five minute drive (2.4 miles) to downtown Nevada City. Three bedrooms, plus media room with a full-size pull out couch; three and a half bathrooms, with updated, modern decor and amenities.

Features include: High-speed Wifi, two large flat-screen smart TVs for access to your own Netflix/Amazon/Hulu, etc. accounts (there is no cable television access at the cabin), Sonos wireless speaker, central heat and air conditioning, dishwasher, washer and dryer, Tuft & Needle mattresses and white linens and towels, private attached two car garage for easy, interior access to the home. Hardwood floors throughout.

The updated, modern, high-end kitchen includes all stainless steel appliances, and is fully stocked for meal preparation and dining. Dining table with extension leaf comfortably seats up to 12.

The house is located directly on the Cascade Canal trail, offering 4.5 miles (one way) of virtually flat hiking through the peaceful forest along a beautiful gold rush-era waterway. Direct access to the canal and trail is literally 15 feet outside the back door. There is a large lawn in front of the house and a fenced vegetable garden that is maintained seasonally. The house is up a private driveway on 1.5 acres with only one other house viewable from the property for privacy and seclusion.

Bedrooms include:

- Master with a king size bed and private shower and toilet room. Double sinks are located in the master bedroom itself (see photos).

- Queen bedroom with built in desk. Shares full hall bathroom (with shower/tub combo) with:

- Cozy bedroom that shares two twin beds.

- Basement media room with a full-sized pull out couch (with memory foam topper) and its own private, attached half bath.

An additional full bathroom (with shower) is located on the main floor, off the kitchen.

There is a wood burning stove in the living room for both warmth and winter woods ambience. Plenty of board games, puzzles and toys for kids young and old. The bookshelves are full of books to read while there, or take with if you become engrossed in one.

Pets are welcome with an additional cleaning fee. Children welcome and will love it here, but know that there is no fence leading to the canal waterway and should be watched closely. Comfortably sleeps 8 adults, additional children welcome in pack'n'plays/floor mats.

We've put a lot of time, energy and thought into making this a special mountain getaway retreat in a very special little town and know that you'll have a wonderful time in our home!

Guests have access to the entire house, including the garage. The home is three stories, including the lower garage/media room level, so it is a requirement to be able to go up and down stairs. Additionally, the house is located on a slight slope with gravel paths and stairs for access to the front door. Being able to navigate slightly loose, uneven terrain is also a necessity.

A local property manager is available for any onsite needs or questions.

While rare, it can snow in Nevada City in the winter and our Cabin is at a slightly higher elevation than town, meaning more snow. There is a partially paved, partial gravel driveway that is on a slope leading up to the house. If there is snow forecast, it's recommended to have a 4WD car and/or have enough food and wood provisions for a cozy weekend snowed in. Snow shovels and sleds provided.

Early Check-In/Late Check-Out: If it can be accommodated (no one else is checking in or out on your arrival or departure day), we can sometimes offer either early or late check out, outside of the typical hours of 4 p.m. check-in/11 a.m. check out, at a rate of $10 per hour. However, we typically will not know if the request will be possible more than 1-2 days prior to check-in. If you know that you'll need an early check-in/late check-out, consider booking another night!

About Casi Kneebone

I grew up in Nevada City and my parents and many friends still live there. Now that we have two small kids, my husband and I wanted a place where we could come spend time in the woods and the kids could get dirty and play with Grandma and Grandpa. When we travel we typically stay in vacation rentals and wanted to pay it forward by opening our home to other families and groups that could also fall in love with our mountain retreat.

Great home for base camp to explore the surrounding sites

  • 5 of 5

This was our home base for 7 days a mixture of family wedding events and also vacation river time. The home is off the beaten path and secluded where you can enjoy peaceful mornings and beautiful star gazing in the evening. It was a perfect retreat to start and end our day. The accomodations are modern and very clean/ new. It's a great home to stay and prepare meals in and just relax -we often found ourselves enjoying floor to ceiling window views. The air worked perfectly and we were not hot and all the amenities listed worked and we used them (sonos, air, garage, river towels, kitchen/appliances, washer / dryer.) The guest guide was helpful and if you haven't been both Nevada City and Grass Valley have great historic tours, shopping, and also local crafts and eats. We hit in the time of the year where there street fair during the week and a farmers market on the weekend. Grocery store in town is fantastic and really has excellent options. By far our favorite were the daily river jaunts/hikes / waterfalls truly an impressive feature, and the suspension bridge. We look forward to returning in winter climate to enjoy the season/beauty that offers. For consideration in staying on this property it is a little far from town so if you are not familiar and plan to have activities in town you may want to stay in town - as ubers/public transportation are not readily available - we had late wedding activities that being closer to town may have been easier as parking in town is difficult when crowded. However, if you don't need to be in town late evenings this is the place to stay - it's not really walkable to town - windy roads with blind turns and we didn't see anyone making the walking trek. If you have guests coming with you that have difficulty climbing stairs this property is three levels and keep that in mind when older guests or little ones traveling. We managed fine and the downstairs guest quarters/ play room were perfect for our 7 year old - she played and played in the teepee. One feature not to forget is there are hooks everywhere in the house where you can hang your gear and belongs. Movie and book selection is extension. The kitchen supply of amenities, (# of cups/ plates etc) welcomed large families plenty to use for a full day of meals. If you are looking to just show up and be welcomed by all amenities and clean/modern living - this is it.

Charming, clean and a great location!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Log Cabin with 6 girlfriends to celebrate a 50th birthday in late June. The Cabin is beautiful and inviting. The beds were really comfortable and we found everything we needed to cook meals in. We spent many hours sipping coffee around the kitchen table and chatting in the living room after connecting our music to the Sonos speaker. It is a short drive into town for shopping and great food. We rode our mountain bikes and walked on the Cascade Canal dirt trail that you access from the home's property. We also spent an afternoon laying on the rocks down at the Yuba River.

The owner, Casi, was very helpful, gracious and responsive. She answered several questions before we arrived and has a binder with info on the home and area. We are planning on going back!

It was everything the pictures portrayed and more. Setting was beautiful, the house was immaculate, beds comfortable, kitchen very roomy, beautiful and well equipped, the porch the perfect spot for a glass of wine in the evening or coffee in the morning. Very convient. A straight shot down the road into town. My only complaint was that we weren’t able to stay a couple of more days. I hope we will have the chance to rent again. I highly recommend this property.

Great House!

  • 5 of 5

House was wonderful and Owner was very responsive. We enjoyed our stay and will book again. Fully equipped kitchen. No problems operating TV, VCR, etc. Beds very comfortable and plenty of room. Nice setting in the woods. We were not able to use the trail because of weather (actually snowed one day). Very cozy. Thanks Casi!
