About Tatiana Serafin
Our family are adventure seeking land conservators who honor nature and have found a haven in the Hudson Valley. We have been exploring here since 2012 and plan to be here for many years to come. We are proud to host The Seventh Wave's Annual Writer's Retreat in our beautiful Crystal Cottage and love to share the creative energy of the space with (so far) painters, poets and recording artists.
Tatiana Serafin purchased this House in 2016
Why Tatiana Serafin chose Rhinebeck Village Business District
Crystal Cottage is a very special place. For several decades the Chous made their part-time home here and spent many happy memories with their family. Wen-chung Chou (born in Chefoo, China in 1923, arrived in the US in 1946 on an architectural scholarship to Yale, and went on to study music, become the protégé of Edgard Varèse and lead the music program at Columbia University) and Yi-an Chang Chou (born in Shanghai in 1927, travelled throughout Eastern Europe with her diplomat parents before settling in Los Angeles in 1941 and launching her concert piano career) loved the land and this house. Wen-chung composed much of his music here and Yi-an grew her second career as a floral designer here – all of her plants in the conservatory continue to flourish. Yi-an passed away in May 2016, Wen-chung resides in New York City. We continue to honor what they have created and share it with you.
What makes this House unique
Crystal Cottage has unparalleled Catskill views best enjoyed from its expansive outside deck. Just as wonderful is the conservatory which offers you wonderful nature watching while sitting comfortably inside amidst lush plants. It is a place for relaxing, reading, writing, creating or letting time go by. And if want more - minutes away you can find Rhinebeck and the greater Hudson Valley.

just right for our group..
We really liked the house and it's location. super clean, great views, perfect for our group of 6 women..
We are thrilled that we could serve as a base for your getaway and look forward to welcoming you back!
Cozy and private with incredible views!
This cozy cottage is nestled on a hill, off a quiet country road, among the forest with incredible view of the Catskills. The kitchen is well equipped and the deck is perfect for enjoying evening meals and watching the sunset. Everything was clean and fresh when we checked in, and the linens are top notch. At night we opened the windows and were lulled to sleep by the breeze passing through the trees and sounds of nature.
Tatiana was a pleasure to deal with when we arranged the booking. Scott, the caretaker, checked in on a us a couple times to make sure all was fine.
The location of this cottage is second to none. Mountain View Road is a charming, one lane road, great for walks and jogs. We enjoyed swimming in the lake and having lunch at the Omega Institute, which is 5 minutes down the road. Rhinebeck, with all it has to offer, is just a 10 minute car ride.
Our stay at Crystal Cottage couldn't be better! Thank you!
We loved hosting you and hope that we can do so again soon! We are so glad you were able to recharge at the cottage and enjoy all the area offerings. Have a great rest of your summer!
Greetings from Aruba and SW Florida
What a memorable time we had at Crystal Cottage. There were eight of us ranging from 86 to 13. We ALL loved it. Scott was fantastic. Home was very clean, linens were top class. Thank you Tatiana for hosting us. We will be back!
Dear Linda and family,
We loved hosting you and are also so glad the weather cooperated with the perfect amount of snow for a cold but lovely holiday week. We welcome you back anytime! Best, Tatiana
Great property - beautiful area
We had a wonderful stay at Crystal Cottage! The property is very well maintained - well stocked with paper supplies, plenty of clean linens, and good kitchen supplies. The cottage is very clean, nice room set up for one or multiple families. There is a lovely sun room to eat in, and the views are stunning! The owner was easy to contact with questions prior to our visit, and the property manager was available whenever we had a question during our stay. We would love to visit and stay at the cottage again! Many thanks : )
The Crystal Cottage is a glass hut of endless creativity.
We love everything about this space and place. Situated on 27-acres of silence, we talked deep into the nights out on the porch that overlooks a horizon of trees and ridges. It's the perfect place for anything: a silent retreat; an arts residency; a brief escape from The City; as home-base for exploring Rhinbeck, Hudson, and more; a family or friendly getaway. The acoustics in the glass hut create an incredible atmosphere, especially during snow and storm (we've experienced both), and the rooms are their own little heavens, with the perfect letter-writing desk to a skylight that floods the room. We have too many good things to say about this place, and love every inch: the pond is a nice place for contemplating, and the hosts are incredibly generous souls. We love it and them dearly.
We welcome you all with open arms! It is our great joy that Crystal Cottage inspires!
Charming! A real escape.
There was nothing better than having breakfast on the porch with a view of the mountains and not a house in sight, above it all. The solarium felt like a real retreat from the ordinary. The house was spotless and charming. Overall it was even better than we thought it would be! A great long weekend.
Crystal Cottage is located in the historic Hudson Valley which offers visitors from the youngest to the oldest a multitude of ways to experience nature, history, art and fine dining. Right from the cottage deck, you can watch the sunset over the Catskills, take nature walks or paddleboat on the pond. Venture into Rhinebeck to see the oldest continually operating inn in America where George Washington stayed, The Beekman Arms, go antiquing or eat at one of the many restaurants run by Culinary Arts Institute graduates. Down the road you will find the Dutchess County Fairgrounds which hosts festivals and fairs for every taste from the annual County Fair to the Country Living Fair to car shows and wine festivals. The Hudson Valley wine trail also starts here with Clinton Vineyards. A bit further afield, you can experience magnificent Hudson River mansions like Clermont or Mills Mansion, an American Downton Abbey. Both areas are full of wonderful hikes; you can also find splendid paths at Poet's Walk and Ferncliff. For more advenure, there is horseback riding at Southlands Foundation, canoeing in Tivoli Bay, or boating along the Hudson. The cottage is also a great launching pad to explore up, down and across the Hudson. North you will find the antique haven of Hudson and the estates of the Hudson River school painters: Frederic Church's Olana and Henry Cole's studio across the river in Catskill. South are more discoveries including FDR's house and Vanderbilt Mansion. Whether you want to rest or play, there is something for every day of your stay!
