About Lynn and Jerry Russell
My husband Jerry and our two babies Weezer and Lucky moved to Fernandina Beach about 12 years ago. We are members of First Baptist Church where I volunteer. We love living in the beautiful beach town of Fernandina Beach because you get that home town feeling here. My husband and I are both from the Middle Georgia area, he from McRae and I am from from Dudley. We cherish our memories growing up in small towns, so FB hits home with us. The town has so much to offer with historic down town and the fort as well as restaurants, shopping and all the walking and bike riding you can handle. It is a very pet friendly town, but more importantly it is a pet friendly beach. Weezer and Lucky look forward to their walks on the beach with all their pals, Hannah, Chloe, Casey, Jenna, Rosie and Tippy and all the rest of the beach gang.....
Why Lynn and Jerry Russell chose Amelia Island
The comfort, decor, large deck facing the ocean, plenty of parking space, large family room seems you're on a boat, near everything (shopping, golfing, movies, airport, restaurants, historic downtown, boat rentals, the Ritz, horseback riding, churches, hospital). Also, we, the owners live on the island for immediate needs.
What makes this House unique
PET FRIENDLY!!! Being on the beach, not across the street or a beyond the dunes, walk out and put your toes in the sand. Also watching the sun rise in the mornings... absolutely breathtaking....Please note limited basic cable. Pets welcome with pet fee of $100 per pet with two pet maximum and twenty five pounds and under.

Great view, just wish he could have wa. ited for us to finish our 7days of vacation in peace
Great time except half way thru r stay they put up house for sale by owner! So we had people stop and want to see it ! Then we had bug people come do outside then we got stuck inside for hour cause we had dog they said dont go outside for hour! Then another day we came home to 2work trucks doing outside work to house putting pull out shutter on house that was sticking out half way into steps and banged head on it! Then they needed to come in and hang blind took 15 min. Dryer didnt work and window blinds inside doors didnt work right otherwise it was wonderful!
The for sale sign was up one day only. The realtor who stopped by did not ask our permission and was in violation of Real Estate Rules and we addressed it.
Gosh, we bought expensive Bahama shutters due to the previous two hurricanes blowing the originals off in order to give the guests in the two front bedrooms more shade and to enhance and compliment the outside new paint job. This was a plus, not something meant to aggravate guests.
At the same time we ordered a very expensive in door retractable blind to block the sun coming into the house...this too was done for comfort for our guests. As you may know, when you order a product from a manufacturer you cannot guarantee when it will be delivered. It took two months to receive all custom made shutters and blinds and the day of arrival was the day of our guests arriving. This guests did We also cannot predict when an appliance will default. We had the dryer's motor replaced as soon as it was possible.
We always ask the guests to let us know if anything needs to be done. This is the first we've heard of anything and will be glad to send $ to pay for the dryer not working.
Great location, some disappointments
The location of this beach house was wonderful - literally right on a huge expanse of uncrowded beach, and easy driving distance to stores & restaurants & golf. We also so appreciated being able to have our dog; he loved walks along the shoreline. I’m a bit perplexed by the 5-star reviews; we must all have different standards & expectations. One very negative review was harshly stated and not terribly constructive; however, I do agree with some of that reviewer’s observations. We’ve rented at least 10 homes through VRBO in various parts of the country over the past 15 years - most end up being basically what we hoped and expected. I have also owned two waterfront rental properties (one on Lake Michigan) so I can empathize with maintaining a house that gets a lot of use and abuse. After a 3-day drive, we were very disheartened when we drove up to this property; its tired appearance was, unfortunately, made even more obvious because it’s between two beautifully renovated homes. Inside, the owners have made it cute and beachy, and it was clean, but so many things were in various states of disrepair that it felt somewhat rundown. From the loose spindle & peeling paint on the front steps to the loose doorknob & deadbolt on the front door, to the chipped trim paint throughout the house & the missing counter tile in the kitchen & the badly water-damaged ceiling, we were terribly disappointed in the overall ambiance - especially since many of the maintenance items would have been very quick & easy fixes. (It was tempting to run to Lowe’s and buy what was needed to make some of the repairs ourselves.) We had a nice vacation, but it was an expensive rental, and the house fell short of expectations (especially when our next VRBO experience just a day later in upscale Hilton Head Island was in a dog-friendly home that was much larger, perfectly maintained, and cost less per night). We also had some frustrations with communicating with the owners; 2 phone calls were not returned, and replies to my emails took up to 2 days. Regardless, this rental is on a wonderful beach, had nice linens and was clean; notwithstanding the ceiling damage (which I know is not a cheap or easy fix), I hope my comments will be taken as constructive suggestions to make some simple and relatively inexpensive repairs so the house is the very best it can be and worth the premium price.
We inspect the house weekly, however may miss something like a loose bolt. The home does not look tired as we have just last month replaced the entire outside walls and painted every wall. Our purpose is to present a Jimmy Buffet motif, not a new contemporary house. We chose not to paint the front steps due to it being the most trafficked outside part of the house. The steps are safe and secure and that one little spindle has been replaced. There was never a danger. The ceiling has been repaired, not replaced but will be after the summer guests leave. It's solid and
has nothing to do with the large living room comfort or how sound one sleeps. We haven't increased rates in 3 years and are in line with all rentals. Amelia Island is NOT Hilton Head, the rates are not the same. HH has more pine trees than Palm trees and homes are set back farther from the beach. Lynn and I leave our cell phones on until 6 pm daily and we assure everyone that if a call is missed it will show up on the phone LED. We're not a motel with phone service around the clock. If you want to speak with us about this review please all us and take a look all the reviews, you'll find very, very few negative ones. We have always been dog friendly and always will. We won't address the minute stuff, but assure you and your family you'll have a great place to stay. So...Fins to the Right, Fins to the Left.
The house has a perfect view of the ocean and so easy to get to the beach. Deck is great.
Lyn and Jerry are super great and really care about their renters. We have rented from them for three years and have not been disappointed. The house is perfect for us. We love Amelia Island. The location is close to everything. Well stocked kitchen. Peaceful too. Dottie and Dennis Feest
No stars. Terribly disappointed. We found this house dirty and run down.
I have never written a bad review for Home Away; fortunately I’ve had a lot of great experiences with reputable owners concerned only with providing great service. But I hope that this review informs both the people who may want to stay at this property, as well as the home owners. Information is key to making good decisions, but the posting was deceptive, and, when confronted, the home owners continued to be neglectful, inconsiderate, and unwilling to negotiate. The property was billed as a perfect beach retreat, in fact, I believe the post stated that this property was NOT your typical tired beach house (in fact, it was the very definition of a tired beach house). I took plenty of pictures that I hope HomeAway will review. I feel very strongly that I was taken advantage of and I’d like a refund. I’m sorry to have to write this; it was my mom’s 85th Birthday and this beach retreat was her birthday present. I was embarrassed the moment we arrived and looked at the house. And when we opened the door and saw the damaged ceiling, the dirt and grime along every baseboard, the fogged sliding glass doors obstructing the view, the ripped screens, the ants in the kitchen, the mold on the bathroom ceiling, the deck in disrepair, and the spotty (at best) internet, it was everything I could do to remain calm and upbeat for my mom. We enjoyed the beach; we celebrated her birthday, but the house could have made this special occasion so much more special. This was an expensive house to rent; the home owners have an opportunity to work with me; I am willing and able to work with them. If that happens I will happily write another review reflecting their willingness to negotiate and make this right.
We stand firmly on the reviews, of our guest for the past seven years. We have families who return yearly and are booked for next year. A decision regarding renting our home should be based on our past performance rather than the comments of this one review. The past seven years of reviews give an accurate account of our home and who we are as home owners. We are readily available to assist our guest in any way possible during their visit to our home. We live here which allows direct access to us rather than through a property manager. The Internet service is not spotty, the modem had to be replaced. We responded quickly and had service man replace the modem while this traveler was at our home. Storm damages are being completed within the next two weeks. It is unfortunate that such malice comments can be made by an individual against us and our home without the homeowners having the opportunity to respond to these threats as they came to us in texts from this travelor. Our reviews state it for us, we are very responsible and responsive to our guest. Allow us to provide a relaxing, safe home directly on the beach for your next vacation.
Great place to stay!
Really enjoyed our week in this vacation home. You couldn't get any closer to the ocean. The house was clean and comfortable. We'd love to stay here again.
Thanks so much look forward to your return.
Thanks and we look forward to your return visit.
Very nice house with a fantastic ocean view.
We really enjoyed our stay. The house was very nice, met all of our needs and provided an unbeatable ocean view. We hope to rent this house again in the future. This is our second time renting from the Russells and both were pleasurable experiences.
We appreciate the comments and are thankful to have such great guest like you guys. W're looking forward to your return.
