About Sherry Hull
I met my farmer husband, affectionately known as Farmer Frank, in college falling head-over-heels in love with both him and his family farm. I’m honored to say that our bicentennial farm has been in the Hull family since 1786 being one of the oldest farms in the country in continuous operation by the same family. We started our farm vacation program in 1994 and have had the privilege of welcoming guests for 25 years, many whom have become lifelong friends. Besides the love I have for my family and farm there are 2 things that make my brain light up like a Northern Lights sky …cooking and conversation. I love everything about food, from picking our first garden tomato of the season to transforming it into a part of a tasty feast.
Sherry Hull purchased this Farmhouse in 2004
Why Sherry Hull chose East Durham
When I look at the beautiful landscape of our pristine pastures and majestic mountain views I often think that I must have been dropped in paradise…it is for me anyway. I hope that you can find time to enjoy our sweet Gifford House and be restored by our little slice of paradise and the rhythm of nature that surrounds it.

We had a great stay!
A cozy house, convenient to the slopes, and the kids loved the farm
Cute and quaint
The plane was really nice. It was spacious, with everything working as expected. Sherry was really sweet and helped out with whatever we needed. It's very close to Windham, for when we went skiing, and the days we didn't the kids enjoyed interacting with the animals.
I wish the kitchen was a little better stocked, but overall, everything was great.
Cozy little house with amazing host!
My friends and I rented out Hull-o Farms Guest House for NYE and it was absolutely perfect. The house was so cute, super clean, and more spacious that I thought! The bedrooms were so cozy and each was decorated uniquely. There was also a wood burning stove that we had going the entire time we were there. It definitely felt like a nice secluded cabin in the country side. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots pans utensils everything! Sherry is a fabulous host and was so attentive to all of our needs. She offered to make us coffee tea etc in the morning and the house came with a breakfast basket including honey, maple syrup, Sherry’s own pancake mix, a dozen eggs, and some breakfast meat...all from their farm! Delicious! Overall my friends and I really enjoyed our stay here and I highly recommend this property! We will be coming back soon for sure! Thanks Sherry!
Lovely stay marred by some issues
The house was lovely and comfortable, and Sherry was a gracious and attentive host. When we told her we had only had brought whole bean coffee she lent us her coffee grinder, and the breakfast package of pancake mix and sausage that comes with the stay is delicious!
Unfortunately, there were a issues that made our experience less pleasant. The single toilet in the home seems to be on its last legs and stopped refilling for several periods during our stay. Although it always eventually started working again, it really needs to be fixed or replaced.
In addition, the house is in a cell service dead zone. This wouldn't an issue on its own but combined with the lack of wifi it made any kind of communication within our group very difficult.
Overall I'd say this would be a good choice for a family or small group interested in staying on a functioning farm who don't need to be able to communicate or make phone calls. Larger groups or those who need to be able to reliably communicate are better off with something else though.
Hi Gabe, Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to post a review. I am so pleased to know that you found our house "lovely and comfortable." I have enjoyed hosting families for over 20 years but only recently made our house available through VRBO. I also very much appreciate your kind words, "gracious and attentive host" and am glad you sensed the importance that I feel about my guests' comfort while on their stay.
I am sorry that you had issues that made your stay less pleasant. I have addressed the toilet issue with our maintenance staff and they have already recommended a replacement that we are installing to improve its refill speed. We are always happy to offer alternative accommodations for such matters if the concerns are brought to us while you are here.
I apologize for the lack of clarity in our property description concerning Wi-Fi and cell service. We are hoping to improve its accessibility with upgrades and will revise our description until we have these in place.
I found your group to be very respectful and a pleasure to host.
If you’re in the mood to go exploring beyond the farm during your stay, you’re sure to find a worthy adventure in our area. Take a detour down the road to stay close to ‘home’ or make a day trip of it and enjoy the countryside along the way. For the outdoors enthusiasts, we are located just 15 minutes from Windham Mountain and 30 minutes from Hunter Mountain, top ski resorts in upstate New York. If you have your own gear there are too many options to list here for skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking. Kaaterskill High Peak, North/South Lake, Colgate Lake, Blackhead, Black Dome, Thomas Cole, Palenville Overlook, and Buttermilk Falls are but a few of the various choices. You may wish to avoid the snow and go underground to get your fill of natural beauty, in which case Howe Caverns is a unique opportunity.
Indulge your interest in local history, art, and architecture with visits to the Bronck House Museum, Clermont State Historic Site, Franklin D. Roosevelt’s home, Lansing Manor, Martin Van Buren’s home, Olana Estate, Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site, Thomas Cole National Historic Site, Staatsburgh, Vanderbilt Mansion, and Zadock Pratt Homestead and Museum. If you prefer museums over historic mansions, you might try the Firefighting Museum, Old Stone Fort Museum and Historic Site, New York State Museum, Norman Rockwell Museum, Pleshakov 18th Century Piano Museum, Saratoga National Battle Monument, Saugerties Lighthouse, Ukrainian Church and Grazhda, or the USS Slater WWII Battleship. Albany, Cooperstown, and Saratoga Springs each offer a unique history all their own and are all within an hour and 45 minutes away.
For any shoppers, you may enjoy the Berkshire Outlet Stores or the Hudson Antique District a little closer to home.
