Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath Mountain Cabin with Spectacular Views!

So...you're after an adventure. Or maybe it's a cozy escape into the mountains...a getaway from the stresses and routine of daily life. Come escape from it all when you visit the Alice in Winterland Cabin! This mountain community feels magical, and what better way to reconnect, enjoy family time, and simply 'just get away.'

My husband and I love the community of St. Mary's - the history, the land, the neighbors, the views...it's breath-takingly beautiful! This is our vacation home with our 4 children, and we want to share it with you when we can't be there.

A little more about the cabin - it's a one bedroom (cozy and comfortable), one full-bath, a cool 'ladder-loft' that comfortably sleeps two (twin mattresses), a sleeper sofa in the living area, a fully equipped kitchen (hey, we like a bit of modern too and upgraded all kitchen appliances in June 2016 ), a TON of extras including a Pack-N-Play for your littlest one, a fold-out toddler cot, an umbrella stroller to use when strolling through town, snow boots for ages 2, 7, 9, 13, as well as a ladies size 8 and a men's size 10, snow jackets in size small in women's and medium in men's, snow pants (if they fit, you're welcome to use them), various sizes of kids/adult snow gloves, super soft blankets for star viewing, and so many extras.

Step through the 'Looking Glass' and experience snow-topped trees and mountains in the winter and crisp, cool terrain and hummingbirds that whir by during the spring and summer. Spectacular views are what sets our cabin apart. We are 10,000 feet up, and our deck offers an unobstructed view of the mountains. We face the absolutely spectacular sunrises, and go to bed with cozy fires.

If you'd like a little adventure while you're here, there is plenty to do right up on the mountain, down in Idaho Springs and within a short drive! For the outdoorsy, hiking is very popular (a hike to St. Mary's Glacier is a MUST), ATV tours are a five minute drive away, fishing (we provide 2 passes, poles, and a stocked tackle-box!) to fish in 2 private stocked lakes (catch and release only); horseback riding within 30 minutes, ziplining, white-water rafting, SHOPPING and DINING in quaint Idaho Springs...), but honestly, just buying groceries in town for dinners, watching some movies or your favorite show on satellite with a glass of wine or a local beer on the deck or by the fire may be just what you are seeking. We cherish memories and want this getaway to be 'that memory' for you!

About Charlotte Cantu

Hi, my name is Charlotte and my husband is Adam. We are a blended family of 6, with two boys and two girls, ranging in age from 3 to 13. We are native Texans but call Colorado our second home. We are a close family, involved with our church and community, and our favorite thing to do is to take family vacations together! I took this picture over Spring Break, 2016 - they couldn't get enough of making snowballs, sledding around the trees, and hiking up behind the cabin.

Charlotte Cantu purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Charlotte Cantu chose Idaho Springs

My husband and I visited St. Mary's in August of 2015 on a getaway for just the two of us, and we fell in love with the community, the lovely winding way up the mountain, and we knew we would come back! We were so lucky to happen upon this well-loved gem and we have already been up several times with our family of 6! The St. Mary's community is such a wonderful community with friendly people, absolutely gorgeous mountain views, fresh air and wildlife. We hope you enjoy our 'home away from home' as much as we do!

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin is special. We bought it from the original owners, who put a lot of love and care into it over the years. The views from the deck are amazing - since the cabin is built into the side of the mountain slope, the views are unobstructed and watching the sunrise from the deck is breathtaking. Perhaps we'll have a budding artist stay at some point and capture a sunrise!

My family and I loved the house!!

  • 5 of 5

The house and amenities were great! Charlotte was great and her communication was excellent. We actually had a car issue on the way out of town halfway to Idaho Springs. She got on the phone and called some of the neighbors that live close to the cabin. She was able to get me some roadside help within about 30 minutes (versus a few hours had I called AAA, who would like dispatch out of Denver). I couldn't ask for a better experience!!! I recommend this cabin to everyone. Beautiful views, great location, great owner. Thanks Charlotte! - Jimmy Ebrecht

Does not get better!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with my family for a long weekend. The cabin is cozy and stocked with everything you could need. The views are beautiful! My family and i had a great time playing board games, watching a movie and enjoying each other. At night we made a nice fire in the woodstove and had hot chocolate. You cant go wrong!

PERFECTLY AMAZING Cabin !

  • 5 of 5

One word - COMFY! This Cabin is not only gorgeous and wonderfully located with the most amazing views, but what Charlotte has provided INSIDE is what really makes this home away from home! All four of us had EVERYTHING we needed, as some things we forgot, or us being Floridians, were not ready for, coming to 4*to 20* snow filled weather. Blankets, movies, games, snow gear, sleds, a full kitchen STOCKED with all the plates, utensils, condiments/spices/tin foil – as examples - same with the bathroom, almost anything you would find in your own home so you don’t have to worry if you forgot something or didn’t think of it when packing.

The wrap around balcony was amazing and was nice to just enjoy the scenery, along with the tall and wide windows on the one side of the cabin to catch a glimpse of beauty every time you looked that direction.

Charlotte and their neighbor were so easy to reach, kind, helpful, and thoughtful to clear our driveway after the fresh snow had fallen!

I will recommend this Cabin to anyone I know wanting to come to Colorado! This experience was just perfect and wonderful!

LOTS of water [we undermined this] is needed because of the altitude, but after the first day, we were fine! After going to the store, we left a couple items we did not use, as it seems others have done before us :)

Was so nice to enjoy the friendly, welcoming, coziness we were looking for to enjoy our vacation! Thank you for sharing your Winter Wonderland with us Charlotte!!

Most wondrus indeed!

  • 5 of 5

This comfy, lovely cabin was just the idyllic get-a-way I needed this fall. Nestled into the forested mountainside and with stunning views of the Rockies from the deck, it had all the drama of nature I was looking for. The wood-burning stove, piles of super soft blankets, and comfortable sleeping and sitting areas let me fall easily into a soothing routine padding around the cabin for meals, work, rest, or contemplation. The day it snowed, I cozied in to feed the stove log after log for a few hours while I read a book. On the warm days, I tromped along deer trails that wound behind the cabin and remembered how nearly 11-thousand feet of elevation make even a Denver-girl breathless!

The cabin had absolutely everything I needed, and the location couldn't have been more ideal for me! A quick jaunt into the sweet town of Idaho Springs for brunch, shopping, or a dip at the hot springs/thermal caves rounded out my vacation perfectly.

The owners were incredibly helpful, easy to reach, and super responsive. I'm going to book my next stay there asap.
