This charming lake view house is located in Soda Springs just 10 miles before Truckee. Lake access is a hop across the street with no barriers! A green belt sits between the lake and our home. With amazing deck views of Serene Lakes as well as the Sierra Nevada, you can relax and breathe fresh mountain air on our large deck that can easily fit your entire group. If you are coming from the Bay Area, it is a fabulous location as it is less of a drive and minus the noise and traffic of Lake Tahoe. This very friendly family orientated community is perfect for family retreats or just getting together with good friends. With plenty to do in both summer and winter, outdoor enthusiasts will love it here!
Literally just behind the house is North America's largest cross-country ski resort, Royal Gorge. Fantastic sledding is conveniently available along the side of our property. Multiple downhill ski resorts are just minutes away! From Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Resort, Soda Springs Ski Resort to Boreal. Northstar and Squaw Valley USA are just a little further! In addition, we have cross-country skis and boots available for your use as well as sleds for closer to home activities.
Summertime is just as spectacular with activities such as bike riding (bikes available at the house), strolls around the lake (2 miles), swimming, fishing, laying out on the beach (sand toys and umbrella available), canoeing (yours to use and parked conveniently on the lake shore), dining at Ice Lakes Lodge (just minutes walking distance),BBQing on the deck, hiking, and much more!

Why the Owner Chose Donner Lake
Having known next to nothing about the Serene Lakes area, we agreed to visit a friend who recently purchased a cabin there. We instantly fell in love and decided to buy a place just down the street. It works out so well for us since we love the outdoors but also enjoy the serenity this place has to offer. It's a few hours outside the Bay Area but just far enough away from the madness at Lake Tahoe. We love it here and especially the fact that it accommodates large groups! So many memories....
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
There are soooooo many activities that we end up doing throughout the year on our visits. There's downhill skiing, sledding, crosscountry skiing, bike riding, running, rollerblading, hiking, walking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, and of course overeating! However, the main goal is to relax and take in the fresh air with good friends and family!

Lodge with a fabulous view of the lake. Nice restaurant and with indoor and outdoor seating. Rental of kayaks, paddle boats and canoes available.
Has a nice selection of basic groceries, liquor as well as a deli.

We currently live in the Bay Area and enjoy the outdoors. We are a family of 4 plus one very old dog. Living in the Bay Area, we feel it's important to slow things down whenever we get the chance! Visiting the Sierras has always been an enjoyment for us and something we hope to share with our children for many years.

Thank you SO very much for renting us your home -- we had a terrific time, despite the little amounts of snow. We've been renting houses up in the Serene Lakes area for several years and we all agreed, your home was the best, hands down -- it's a great location, funky layout that actually works, incredibly well-stocked (generously and thoughtfully)..... After leaving the cabin, all of us want to come back. It's very close to Soda Spring ski ranch. There is no much snow these days. However, our kids went to ski and very happy about it. All kids are first time to stay in a cabin. They were very enjoy and wanted to stay more days.

We spent July 4th 2011, even though there are still lot of snow around the house (unusual 2010~2011 Winter Snow), kids were catch tons of fun over there. This is the best place to spend family vacation through all 4 seasons. Thanks Cynthia.

We wanted to tell you we enjoyed your cabin/home and had a great time. You have a very nice cabin. We canoed, kayaked, rode bikes, admired some of the cabins/mansions in the area, went on a 5 mile hike at old Donner Summit, rock climbed at old Donner Pass, and went into Truckee for the art/craft show on Sunday. I ran across a mountain guide friend of mine on the rocks at old Donner Pass (Bela--the owner of ASI--you have his brochure in your cabin).

O!M!GWhat a great hill! It's like "back country sledding!" We saw a weasel! Austin Powers marathon! Peppermint cocoa! Loved the ping pong and loft! The bear tree is AMAZING!

We celebrated our father's 80th birthday. We came from far away: Australia, Idaho, Colorado and of course California. Beautiful setting and lake . House very comfortable for 11 adults and 6 children.

Had an incredible sunny weekend. Still snow enough for side of the house sledding but warm enough for lots of canoe trips, bike rides and runs around the lake. It was perfect and filled with lots of fun and laughter, good food and drink, reading, sleeping and playing games - the best of both worlds! We can't wait to come back for more fun together!
