About Jim Kroske

The Kroske's hail from Gilroy and have been homeowners since building our first golf course cabin in 1979 for our young family and friends to enjoy. With a growing extended family and loving everything about our choice to have a vacation home in Tahoe Donner we new we needed to find a larger cabin within Tahoe Donner. Enter the treasure of a find on the 13th green on Swiss Lane. Large enough to accommodate friends and family, complete with grandchildren, with room to dine and play, spread out, and relax with beds for everyone. This spacious cabin is guaranteed to provide endless enjoyment. A true mountain get-away for everyone of all ages.

Jim Kroske purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Jim Kroske chose Truckee

From a very young age, I have always had a great love for mountain activities. From fishing in the streams and lakes, water skiing in the chilled lakes of the sierra in the summer months, to downhill skiing during the winter months. For several years we rented cabins for our young family in the South Lake Tahoe and Truckee area. When it came time to consider a location to build a cabin of our own, we had looked at many areas around the Lake Tahoe region before settling on Tahoe Donner Resort. One of the reasons why we made our decision is the convenience of being located off of Interstate 80, the major artery to the east, maintained 365 days a year by an army of snow removal equipment. Another enticing factor is the lack of congestion due to the fact that casinos and big city night life are not located around the corner, but still located within a 45 minute drive to the 'Biggest Little City in the Word' Reno, NV. And the man said 'location, location, location!' Tahoe Donner is the hub of winter activities with plenty of winter ski resorts in close proximity all ranging approximately 15 miles away (24 minutes): Northstar (south on Hwy 267) , Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley (south on Hwy 89), or Sugar Bowl (west on I-80). Tahoe Donner also includes many adventurous summer activities such as fishing, golf (minutes away), biking, hiking, floating, etc.

We built the first cabin, a 3 bed, 2 bath A-frame on Tahoe Donner's 15th fairway in 1980 during TD's early development. Enjoying many years of winter and summertime weekends and vacations. We packed that cabin full of friends and kids till it was ready to burst. So in 2001, we began looking around TD for a larger house and found this big house on Swiss Ln on the 13th green. We fell in love with it at first site and soon it became home away from home.

Great place for multi-family trip

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the cabin for a 5 family group ski trip with young kids (10 adults, 8 kids). The multiple levels were fantastic so people could spread out and do different things. We cooked group breakfasts and dinners which was helped by the open kitchen and even the two dining rooms worked out really nicely. "secret" games closet in the downstairs bathroom provided lots of other activities for all ages. Large driveway and garage allowed us to leave at different times without too much car shuffling. Plenty of beds, linens, and towels for everyone and the bedrooms are actually bigger than they appeared in pictures! Thanks for a great trip.

Amazing place. Beautifully maintained and well stocked

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time in this house! It is extremely well equipped and perfectly maintained. It has everything you'd need - all sorts of kitchenware, loads of extra blankets/sheets, games for almost all age groups, and a stock of spare bathroom towels you'd probably never run out of! The pool table and the poker table were a hit in our group. Jim is a great owner and very easy to communicate with. He provided us with accurate arrival information making the check in a very smooth process.

Wonderful experience overall, we would love to return for a longer stay!

Great summer vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in July with family and friends at this home. The house was extremely spacious with room for everyone who visited. We enjoyed barbecuing on the deck where we spent afternoons and evenings. We also appreciated the passes to Tahoe Donner amenities-particularly the beach and pool. Thank you for sharing your home.

Had a wonderful family reunion at this spacious mountain home.

  • 4 of 5

This home is very spacious and accommodated all our family. The bedrooms are large and very comfortable. The living space was perfect. It is equipped with everything you need for your family dinners, games to play, big screen TV in living area plus TV's in the bedrooms, rec room with pool table, water raft, etc. It was wonderful having the passes to the pool, tennis courts, private lake etc. Jim responded immediately when we suspended the door code so that was much appreciated. We didn't read the specs carefully and assumed the bbq grill was gas, but it turned out to be briquettes so couldn't bbq one of the nights. So bring briquettes and lighter fluid if you want to bbq. The downstairs bathroom and master bedroom toilet weren't cleaned as it should be so I told Jim so he would be aware. We didn't want him paying for a cleaning service that wasn't doing a proper job. He said he had a new cleaning service and would check on them for future renters. We plan on having a reunion every two years and will definitely try renting this wonderful home again.

Great place to stay with a great kitchen and lots of room

  • 5 of 5

We stayed up there for a long weekend (4 nights) with multiple family members. The kitchen has tons of pots/pans/dishes/cookie sheets, etc. It was super easy to create large meals to share with everyone. There were plenty of bedrooms and lots of space to spread out. We all had a great time. The owner was geat to communicate with, checking in with me when we got there to make sure everything was all right. It was much nicer than a different house that we stayed at last year in the same area. I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested and hope to stay there again next year.
