Not So Ideal Vacation Getaway

Since a couple of my friends have already reviewed this property, I'd lile to add my impressions. We are five couples that have vacationed together for years. Our last trip to Sedona was 2 years ago. This property, as it was presented seemed ideal for a week's respite. Problems came up almost instantly and after the first two calls to the Property Manager, we decided that further calls would only antagonize the realtor further and have to put up with her attitude. The home is beautiful and in a beautiful setting. The pictires used in the introduction were taken to imply a situation that was not real (I understans the marketing principals behind the presentation). The lawn was 6-9 inches high. (We later found out that the gardener's mower had broken down, but he would not come back until his regularly scheduled day) We had antici[ated [playing croquet, but that was out of the question. We had previously determined the sleeping arrangements, therefore we knew where to go. The downstairs bedroom had such poor lighting, that we had to but 150 watt bulbs. Even these large wattage bulbs still did not allow us to see into the closet and the dresser at the same time. Another 1 to 2 lamps should be placed in the downstairs bedroom. It was not until the 3rd day that we finally figured out that the thermostat for the downstairs bedroom was located near the bathroom upstairs in the master bedroom. The downstairs bedroom was a "meat locker"; adjustments to the vent in the downstairs bedroom averages 4 times per night. The television in the downstairs bedroom was "snowy" at best. More lighting is needed on the stairs, since the steps themselves are narrower than normal. Wi-fi was not available unless we plugged in directly to the box in the Master Bedroom. This made the Master Bedroom extremely busy and crowded. The lighting in the bathroom in the upstairs hallway is extremely poor. Patrt of this is due to the location of the dual hanging lamps. Shaving was a trying experience. The drain plug is very difficult to get in a fully open position. The access under the sink is not available. The cottage was quaint, but looked like the cleaming crew had skipped their cleaning. The refrigerator was filled with ice and had to be chipped out before we could use it. Stereo equipment was not in working order; other televisions were "snowy" and some channels could not be accessed on TC #2 when TV #1 was on that channel. I'm running out of space, but not .
Owner response:We were quite taken back by this review, as we have had guests in our home for over fifteen years from all paths in life and have never had a negative review. We always aim for the highest standards in comfort, privacy and security for our guests. We do not know why this particular group did not contact the property manager, ask the location of the bedroom thermostat, instructions on how to use the indoor outdoor sound system, the location of the extra sets of bedroom lamps, or how to pull up a sink plug?, Most people are out hiking the red rocks and enjoying cycling, golfing, swimming, using the hot tub, movies, restaurants. The home is in an idyllic setting, an original historic ranch home in Sedona, beautiful stone fireplaces, wood work, pool, spa, easy access to hiking trails and 360 views of the redrocks. It appears these guests were better suited for hotel accommodations.
Recommended for:Sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers.
