The Villa Preciosa is a luxury villa in the Los Limones section of famed golf and beach resort Casa de Campo, on the south coast of the Dominican Republic.

The villa is of Dominican style, with four bedrooms, a huge living room, and a big kitchen which has just been fully renovated, with folding windows giving onto the dining area of the living room and onto the pool terrace. The beautiful patio is surrounded by a lush tropical garden, a private pool and a brand new jacuzzi. There is another pool just behind the villa which is shared with the other houses in the neighborhood. The villa is on a small circle of houses with no through traffic.

The beautiful Minitas beach is a ten-minute walk away, or a few minutes away on a golf cart, and the reception area of the hotel, the yacht marina and all activities are also within a few minutes by golf cart. Two golf carts are included in the rental of this villa.

The villa has two dining areas for a total of 14 guests. There is an HD flat-screen TV with CD player and radio/stereo, and wireless broadband internet connection throughout the villa. The beautiful new kitchen is fully equipped with a large fridge and freezer, dishwasher and microwave oven, and there is a washer and dryer as well. There is also a separate maid's room with bathroom.

Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom, also fully renovated, a spacious closet, air-conditioning, TV and an iPod player.

The downstairs bedroom, called Populi (people), features colorful Haitian paintings of women in the market and others. This bedroom has two double beds and a sofa bed which sleeps two more people. It also has a mini-kitchen with fridge and microwave and a separate entrance from outside.

One of the three rooms upstairs is called Aves, for birds, and features a beautiful painting of cockatoos. It has two double beds and a mezzanine.

Another upstairs room, called Flora, features paintings of beautiful local flowers, and it has a queen-sized bed and a private enclosed balcony area with a view over the garden.

The last room upstairs is called Fauna and features a large whimsical jungle painting. It has a king-sized bed and an enclosed bay window area which is equipped with two desk areas and multiple electrical plugs.

The villa is in the famous Casa de Campo resort with a wide variety of activities, including three different world-famous golf courses, one of which is rated number one in the Caribbean and one of the best in the world, with greens overlooking the ocean. There are many other activities in the resort (check the resort web site), including a Teen Club, family activities, all kinds of sports, sightseeing in the nearby area and in Santo Domingo, the capital, and more.

A Dominican, English-speaking maid works in the villa every day from 8h30 to 3h30. She cleans and makes and serves breakfast, with groceries bought by the renters. For an extra charge meals can be catered at the villa, there are several restaurants with different cuisines in the resort area, and there's a small grocery store in the resort where food to prepare meals at home can be purchased, or ordered and delivered. Guests can also buy an all-inclusive package at a preferred price, including lunch and dinner at various restaurants in the resort.

Casa de Campo is on the south coast of the Dominican Republic, between the capital, Santo Domingo, further west, and Puna Cana at the east end of the island. The nearest airport is La Romana which is about 25 minutes from the resort, and the Santo Domingo airport is about an hour and a half drive away. Punta Cana in the east is also about an hour and a half drive away. There is a heliport in the resort itself.

Vacances de reves

Guest: Madeleine (France)
Date of Stay: 05/28/11 Review Submitted: 08/09/11

A fabulous place for a vacation!

We recently stayed at the villa for two weeks, the first week with family (including an almost-3-year-old grandchild); the second week we were joined by friends. The villa exceeded our expectations in every way - spacious, beautifully equipped and superbly maintained. The weather was perfect, so we spent a lot of time around the pool and eating out under the pergola. Beatrix (the maid) was delightful and kept the house in spic-and-span condition, while Olivo did an equally wonderful job keeping the pool and jacuzzi in sparkling condition. We had one bedroom air conditioner break down, but the maintenance folk from the rental agency were there within a few hours to fix it. They (the rental agency) were also very helpful in other ways, for instance, finding us three bicycles to rent at a rate almost 50% less than was being charged by the bike rental kiosk at the Minitas Beach! The owner was very helpful in answering all our questions in pre-trip emails. As others have noted, the villa is so luxurious that you don't really have to leave the grounds at all to have a good time. But we did, of course, with some of our party playing golf at Teeth of the Dog, some going off to Bayahibe (about 35 minutes east of La Romana) for scuba diving, side trips to Altos de Chavon (which was almost deserted, alas, as the tourists seem to have been kept away by the recession), and everyone relaxing at the Minitas Beach - which is, by the way, absolutely perfect for small children, as the water within the protected beach area is shallow enough not to intimidate little kids. Despite what snorkeling enthusiasts might hear to the contrary, there is quite decent snorkeling along the artificial reef which protects Minitas Beach - we even saw a species of fish we had never encountered anywhere else, though we have had extensive experience snorkeling all over the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. The golf cart which comes with the villa is a great boon, as it allows one to be independent of a car. We enjoyed a couple of the restaurants at the Marina, especially Peperoni, and ate twice at the La Cirque restaurant at the beach. All-in-all this was a terrific experience - we hope to return!

Owner response:We're very glad you had such a good time, even if there was a brief breakdown in the air conditioning. You've done such a nice job of summing up a lot of the local activities, it's clear you explored extensively. I hope you come back sometime !

A MUST-GO-TO ESCAPE

Guest: H. B. (Canada)
Date of Stay: 02/15/08 Review Submitted: 04/21/10

Villa Preciosa is exactly as described in the write-up. There is no exaggeration there. In Feb 2008 we had a fabulous eight-day rest-and-relaxation break from the pressures of the work world. The maid was extremely accommodating to our special meal requests. If you don't want to eat at home evenings, there is a very good restaurant on the nearby beach in Casa de Campo plus a variety of good restaurants nearby outside the resort. Not being golf players, we played a lot of tennis (good instructors, if you need one, plus ball boys to chase your balls for you for a pittance of a tip). Because the resort is huge, recommend renting a small car at the airport when you arrive rather than depending on the golf cart (that comes with the villa) for moving about; rental car also useful for excursions outside the resort.

A paradise !

We spent a week at Villa Preciosa - and what a week it was ! We had gone to the DR for scuba diving but it was often difficult to tear ourselves away from the LUXURY to go diving. So many beautiful rooms and the pool and gardens were a delight. Lots to do in the complex - and great fun to get around with the golf cart. A must do !
