Yosemite Home with Rare Views of El Cap and Half Dome
Year Purchased: 2003
Why the Owner Chose Yosemite National Park
It was a unique opportunity that we couldn't pass up. Foresta is centrally located in Yosemite. It has the closest private homes to Yosemite Valley.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Clouds Rest Cabin is a unique rental property located inside Yosemite National Park. It's location is close to Yosemite Valley and the Tioga Road corridor (Tuolumne Meadows and Sequoia Groves). We built this cabin so that people from all over the world can discover and fall in love with Yosemite National Park as we have. Clouds Rest Cabin is a little treasure inside Yosemite. When you see other visitors trudging off to their cramped, stuffy, little hotel rooms after a day of hiking and exploring the park......reward yourself that you have Clouds Rest Cabin to come back to. Enjoy it's spiritual relaxation and peaceful atmoshere.
A short 8 mile drive to the west end of Yosemite Valley. Several scenic turnouts are along the way for panoramic viewing and photographing.
Just a short drive to hike ( 1mile) down into this beautiful small grove of Giant Sequoia trees. A convienence store and gas station are also located here at Crane Flat./H120 east, junction.
Yosemite's smallest grove of Giant Sequoia's. Easy one mile hike.
45 minute drive to Glacier Point with panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada and Yosemite Valley.
An easy three mile hike (6 miles roundtrip) or mountain bike ride to a little hidden waterfall. A single picnic table is near creek. Easily access by a graded road (4wd vehicles only).
Short 1 mile hike from the cabin to see beautiful Foresta Falls, one of Yosemite's best hidden treasures.
Less than a one hour drive to one of the most beautiful alpine meadows in the Sierra Nevada. Nice base for many of the great day hikes located in the area. A Visitor Center, grocery store, gas station, cafe, sport shop and the famous Yosemite Mountaineering School is located here.
Drive up to one of the highest passes that cross the Sierra Nevada. Great day hiking is located here to Gaylor Lakes, Mt. Dana and Dana Plateau.
Owner's Map of Yosemite National Park
We have lived and worked in Yosemite National Park since 1979 and have been residents of Foresta since 1981. Noreen started working in Yosemite as a summer seasonal Yosemite Valley shuttle bus driver to help with college expenses. She now supervises volunteers in Ecological Restoration for the National Park Service. Mark arrived from Brockport NY wanting to be a Cowboy at the Yosemite Valley Stables but instead was offered a job as the Environmental Manager for the park concessionaire. He still continues that job going to work every day and enjoying it. After the 1990 fire that swept through Foresta, we purchased property in Foresta and built our home. In 2003 we bought another lot and built the rental home we now offer to our guests. We live minutes away and are available to assist our guests.

No better place to stay when visiting Yosemite

My wife and I have spent several nights in Clouds Rest Cabin on two separate visits to Yosemite. The cabin itself is really more like a small house with lots of room and the layout of the cabin creates several separate spaces that are so comfortable and so tastefully appointed. It has a rustic, yet refined feel with all the amenities that one needs. The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need. Just bring the food to cook and the rest is there. The den/living room is lovely with tall ceilings and a lovely gas stove in the corner which creates a cozy and romantic space. Upstairs is an awesome spacious bathroom with a large soaking tub that is perfect after a day at Badger Pass or on the trails in the park, as well as a full shower. The bedroom is also upstairs and has an incredibly comfy bed and a large picture window which faces the valley with views of El Cap and Half Dome. It is amazing! The location of the cabin is in Foresta which is a small quiet community, away from the crowds of the valley but just minutes away. I can't imagine a better place to stay when visiting the park and is the perfect start to creating a memorable Yosemite experience.

Clouds Rest Cabin has a fabulous location just 10 minutes from the valley. The views from every window in the house are beautiful. The cabin itself is immaculate and very tastefully decorated. The owners have tons of information and videos on Yosemite to help you plan your adventures. They have also thought of extras you might not have brought along, like backpacks and coolers. This is one of the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed at. The photos posted on the website can not do justice to the real thing. This was our first visit to Yosemite, I hope we can return soon. There is no where in Yosemite to stay that can compare to Clouds Rest. Thanks, Noreen and Mark!!!

Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Clouds Rest. We spent 5 days in Yosemite (May 15th-20th, 2010)... the park is amazing, but the vacation was made perfect by this home. Noreen & Mark have gone out of their way to create a beautiful, safe cabin for guests. They have stocked the home with everything you might need... the decorating was perfect... I just can't say enough! Don't hesitate to stay here... you won't regret it!

Beautiful cabin, wonderful views, great collection of reading materials and DVD's. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back. We got over a foot of snow while we were there and Noreen kept us up to date on road openings and closings. This was a wonderful experience.

We enjoyed our stay in March '09 so much we had to come back... hoping for snow. That was the only disappointment in our stay as it was unseasonably warm. As expected, Mark and Noreen had the cabin prepared, and some new additions to the library and furnishings as well. I'll not go into details on the cabin (see or March 2009 review) other than the cabin still looks brand new. The silence was amazing, the views outstanding, and the stars mesmerizing. We were both able to relax, re-energize, and replenish our spirits. Thanks again for making a marvelous retreat available! Marc and Tash

My husband, daughter and I recently visited Yosemite and stayed in the Clouds Rest cabin. We absolutely loved every detail of the cabin. My daughter raved about the paving stones that led to the front porch. My husband enjoyed reading from their massive library on Yosemite. I enjoyed opening the windows and then bundling up in a warm blanket. After a long day of hiking or rafting, we knew that we could come back and totally relax. Noreen and Mark were super nice and checked on us often to make sure we were happy. The views are spectacular and we loved the location in conjunction to our plans. Yosemite is a do-over, so we will definitely be back to stay here again one day.

Thank you Noreen and Mark for sharing your beautiful home with us! I was pleased to find that you two had thought of everything a traveler would need...down to backpacks and umbrellas! That king bed is so comfortable and the view...priceless! I enjoyed cooking in the spacious and WELL appointed kitchen. When you said basic spices...I figured salt and pepper! What a pleasure to find items I use at home. We also appreciated your commitment to the environment with making it so easy for guests to recycle. One rainy day, my husband and I put together a puzzle and played Scrabble. Things we haven't done in years! I gave a glowing review on TripAdvisor and can not wait to return to Yosemite and Clouds Rest Cabin. Sorry we were not able to meet. Maybe next time. And hope that time will be soon. I fell in love with Yosemite and Clouds Rest Cabin.

We have been to Yosemite many times before but had never stayed in or even heard of Foresta. It is an incredibly quiet, peaceful retreat just minutes from the Valley. Several deer wandered through every morning and we saw bluebirds and (I think) Western tanangers in the daffodil-adorned front yard. The house is comfortable and charming, and has a well equipped kitchen, cozy blankets, a charming and toasty gas "woodstove", and a nice selection of DVDs. We loved the generously-sized two person tub and used it frequently--not the best for water conservation, but it was so relaxing, we couldn't help ourselves! The view from all rooms of the house was wonderful and the stars over El Capitan were absolute magic. We were a little surprised at the cleaning we were expected to do, but once we got started it turned out to be not much, and we ended up enjoying the feeling of helping to look after such a lovely place. Noreen was very helpful and friendly throughout the process. In short, Cloud's Rest Cabin is a marvelous, incredibly peaceful mountain retreat on the doorstep of one of earth's most breathtaking spots.

I have stayed everywhere that Yosemite has to offer since the early 60's, and Clouds Rest is an amazing place that allows you to come to touch those places that seem so far away in your everyday life. The environment is surpassed only by the owners, Noreen and Mark . I am sure there are similar experiences out there, but to have the owners living in the same area as the cabin, and then stroll by on their evening walk, and even better, turn out to be two of the coolest people in the world with all the knowledge of living in the Park... what could be better? In short, nothing. The cabin is marvelously appointed, with great care given to the placement of windows for the amazing view you have from almost every angle. Their insight and stories are a blast if you get the chance to meet with them... and believe me that it would be tough to find a better morning view on the deck with your coffee anywhere in the valley. All in all, an amazing little cabin perfect for two, with a modern kitchen, great master bath with soaking tub, and a master bedroom that has exquisite views and a super-comfy bed... oh and a deck where the stars always seem to cooperate.... If you are looking for a relaxing, noise-free way to enjoy the subtleties of Yosemite, then Clouds Rest is for you.

My husband and I just spent a 3 day birthday weekend at Cloud's Rest and loved it. The location is unbeatable, so close to Yosemite Valley but world's away. The cabin is impeccable and so very comfortable with a million dollar view. We'll be back.
