  • Suitability
    • Pet Friendly : Yes we do accept well behaved dogs. We do have some rules regarding our furry friends. We request that dogs do not get up on the furniture including the bed. We also request that the dogs are never let alone loose in the house. We ask that owners crate their dogs at night and while away. We also ask the owner to clean up any land mines the dogs leave behind. Housekeepers just aren't as furry friend friendly as we are.... We just put in new sod so I really try to have my dogs potty on the gravel. We bring an exercise pen and set it up on the north side of the house. It's shady and quiet there. We have a $100 pet deposit that is refundable, and don't charge any extra per night. I hope you understand the rationale behind our rules and deposit. We bring our dogs to the house all the time and we're huge dog lovers, but unfortunately we've found not everyone is as attentive to maintaining the "guest house image" that we must have.

Olive Festival in Paso

Guest: Olive Me (Sonoma CA)
Date of Stay: 08/19/10 Review Submitted: 10/11/11

My wife and I used this charming bungalow for the Olive Festival weekend. This was my first VRBO venture and I surfed like crazy looking at all the possibilities, locations, accomodations and all of the potential "ADDED COSTS" associated with most. I have to tell you that Ken and Patti make it so easy to stay at their place. The location to town is perfect, the cottage is warm and inviting and the neighborhood is quiet but full of families. Here is the kicker that simply adds to the already great value, what they charge for a nights stay is all you pay...no cleaning fee, no security fee, just the nightly cost. I would take this place without hesitation over any hotel and believe me, my decision making time to find a place next year just went to an email to Ken and Patti...no more VRBO surfing for places in Paso Robles. Definitely a big Thumbs Up on this as the place to stay.

Wonderful experience at Under the Oaks

Guest: wine-dingroad (Los Angeles)
Date of Stay: 09/16/11 Review Submitted: 10/01/11

We just recently spent a weekend at Under the Oaks and were very pleased with our experience. The property is rustic, but incredibly well maintained. The backyard is perfect for relaxing after a day of wine tasting. Also, the proximity to downtown was amazing... it was such an easy walk to all the restaurants. There area also a couple great wineries (Calcareous, etc) not far up the road. It truly felt like a wonderful, unique experience in wine country.

Owner response:Our yard works well for dog owners with plenty of space in the back and front yards. We love walking to dinner. Ken and Patti

Date of Stay: 08/05/11 Review Submitted: 08/08/11

This place was an ideal house, clean, neat and just a 5 min. walk to the town square & restaurants. We enjoyed the neighborhood and the beautiful oaks creating a great setting to enjoy our wines & the hot tub in the backyard on this property. The owners couldn't have been more helpful, from what wineries to visit, to where to eat & any questions I had. A first class experience....we will be back soon!!!

Under The Oaks

Guest: Great Danes (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 04/02/11 Review Submitted: 04/05/11

We spent a wonderful weekend in Paso and felt completely at home when we stepped through the doors of Under the Oaks. It has a very warm and inviting feel to it and our two dogs really loved having a yard they could do several sprints and stretch their legs. The winery and restaurant recommendations by Ken and Patti were out of this world. We have added several of wineries on their list as MUSTS next time we visit. If you love Zin's, Turley has wines that are a world apart. Paso Port also has a great variety for all you Port lovers. If we were to visit Paso again, we will more than likely stay at Under the Oaks and I will highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting the town. There's nothing like coming to Under the Oaks after a day of wine tasting and enjoying an evening in the hot tub or relaxing by the fire pit. You just can't get that when staying at a cookie cutter hotel.

Owner response:Thank you for your feedback. We love staying at our house and walking to dinner. Oak Street is a great residential street to stay. We enjoy sitting on the front porch and reading and drinking coffee in the morning with the warm morning sun. Ken and Patti

Adorable cottage in a lovely town

Date of Stay: 08/20/10 Review Submitted: 08/29/10

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this historic cottage. The owners description was accurate. They provided information about their favorite dining spots and wineries which we took advantage of. The house was clean - all basics were provided for - and the location was ideal. We would most definitely recommend this property to our friends. Dinner at Artisian was fabulous!

We had a great time in Paso Robles and enjoyed our 2 nights "Under the Oaks" in the cute and homey cottage. We had dinner each evening in downtown Paso, which was an easy walk from the house. We visited during a heat wave and were amazed to see the temperature at night drop by 50 degrees from the over 100 readings during the day! The house was equipped with an air conditioner that kept us cool in the afternoons and nice fluffy comforter on the bed that kept us cozy at night. In general, the cottage was well-outfitted with whatever supplies you might want during a visit, e.g., lots of kitchen stuff, robes, extra shampoo, washer and dryer, etc. The place is small, especially the dining area, but it's comfortable for a couple and worked well for us and our 8-month-old baby.
