Beautiful stained glass windows in the living room 07/01/2009

              VRBO Bear stayed here:

Our recent bear travels brought us to the lovely Gold Coast neighborhood on Chicago’s North Side. We experienced the culture firsthand in this beautiful Victorian Brownstone, amidst a quiet tree-lined picturesque street. What a delight!

This prime location offers an array of activities within close proximity. The famous Magnificent Mile can be found a few blocks away, where you will find every kind of shop imaginable for the seasoned shopper to the shopping browser. Elegant and casual dining can be found within a short scenic walk. Enjoy the historical churches and buildings that align the perfectly manicured Michigan Avenue. Stroll along the paved pedestrian walkway to Navy Pier where you will find shops, rides and fun for all ages at this local tourist attraction. An assortment of elegant and casual dining can be found a few scenic blocks away. Attend a variety of theaters and museums throughout the city, which are easily accessible by public transportation.

The owners were accommodating and hospitable, creating an enjoyable stay from the start. We loved the brownstone’s ideal location and the brownstone’s interior was equally charming. We were impressed with a private entryway and winding staircase leading us up to the third floor apartment. We found it roomy and sophisticated yet it was comfortably equipped with all the necessities of home. The stained glass windows in the living room added to the tasteful décor. Beautiful hardwood and granite flooring throughout, an updated kitchen and an elegant bedroom gave us the Victorian ambiance and antique charm we were hoping to experience!

We were delighted to experience Chicago by staying in this fabulous brownstone apartment nestled in a quaint neighborhood and are sure you will as well!

My husband and I chose the third floor tree top suite for a one week stay for our anniversary! Easy process including the utmost prifessionalism by Tyler the property manager. He was there for each question we had prior to, during and after our stay. Well cared for property with a fantastic location close to everything. Quiet for a city location with the occasional horse and carriage passing by, and great neighborhood atmosphere. We would recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to the city... Sure beats a hotel! I am in the travel industry so felt this was great value for the dollar!

We really enjoyed our stay in the top floor appt. It was very well equipped and nicely decorated, although a little dark, but that may be a good thing in mid summer. In that vein the air con didn't really get cold enough so may need some attention to cope with summer highs but overall the apartment was really lovely. There was also a good choice of free films on TV which was nice when we wanted to spend the evening relaxing after a long day walking around the city. The location is just superb, in a delightful tree lined avenue, with restaurants and the main shopping area closeby, as is the beach - couldn't have been better. I would definitely recommend it when visiting the lovely city of Chicago. Way way better than the hotel option we had considered..

This condo was perfect! I was in town for the radiology convention and could not find a hotel room. I decided to try VRBO and found this condo on the website. Honestly, I would love to stay here every year when I attend the conference. The location was very convenient to Miracle Mile and many great restaurants. The condo was really well designed, very spacious and clean, with top of the line appliances and amenities. This is preferable to hotels when traveling on business with family members. I would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I always wanted to stay in a brownstone and this one was quite a treat! It's located on a very nice street with lots of restaurants within walking distance. It was our first time booking on vrbo and I was nervous about paying such a large amount of money in advanced but everything went fine. The condo is exactly like you view in the photos and video. My only complaint is lack of storage in the bathroom. I think it might be a tight stay with four people since it is a 1bedroom 1 bath but if you don't pack as much as I do you may be fine. I would recommend staying here if you want to feel like a local and get to feel the history of Chicago!

We spent a wonderful week in this condo. The location is perfect for sightseeing, shopping and dining. It is in a very nice and quiet street and you are away from the city noise. Lots of places are in walking distance, for all the other places we took the bus (cta 7day pass $ 23). The condo is exactly as shown on the photos and very well-maintained. We had e-mail contact to the owners and got lots of helpful informations. We were in Chicago for the first time and found this part of the city ideal for our needs. We would definitely stay there again.

This place was in the best part of town, very quiet and clean. We could walk to Rush Street or to Lake Michigan, we were only a couple of blocks away from Clark/Division which is where we could catch the red line to all of our destinations. I stronly sugguest taking the Orange line from Midway to Roosevelt, then switching to the Red Line heading north and save your money from having to take a taxi. We took the subway from Midway and saved about $60 in which we bought (2) 7 day CTA passes and that got us everywhere we wanted to go. The owners of the property were great and it's everything we expected!

We recently stayed here during our annual Christmas shopping spree. What a great find, I almost want to keep it a secret! In years past, we always stayed on Michigan ave. and had to deal with the rat race of all the shoppers whenever we walked out the front door. The best part about the brownstone was the location. Only one block from Michigan ave, you could still get to all the shops, but were able to decompress before the mad-shopping begins. We woke at a leisurely hour, made coffee and started our day. Even though there are plenty of bakerys and restaurants that are just a few steps away, the idea of a relaxing morning and plotting out the day was great. The brownstone was exactly as we thought it would be, no surprises...how refreshing. We couldn't find the sheets for the sofa sleeper, and when I called to find out where they were the owner came by with a brand new set! Talk about service....(they ended up being in the inflatable bed). I have only one little thing that was bothersome, and that was the heater had a hissing sound that would come on sometimes and if you are a real light sleeper it may annoy you but it didn't bother me and it sure beats loud guests next door to you in a hotel room. Another big plus is the price...I got to buy extra Christmas presents. So happy shopping girls, any time of the year.

This gorgeous Brownstone was exactly what my wife and I were looking for in Chicago. As advertised, it’s on a quiet street that’s literally one block from Lake Shore Drive and one block from Rush Street. Perfect access to everything without being overwhelmed by noise, traffic or crowds when we were in for the night. The furnishings were elegant, but the apartment had a very casual and inviting feel. Although we didn’t use the kitchen, it was fully functional so we could have made meals if that was our intention. The bathroom could have been larger (I’m spoiled) but it was OK. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else when I visit Chicago again.

About the owner: Mark and Ashley are a husband and wife team that have one foot planted firmly in Chicago. As a former Chicago resident for 10 years, Ashley has both friends and family in Chicago. We have twins who love to visit Chicago! They both know that Dad's favorite building is the Hancock.

Why the Owner Chose Gold Coast:
There is only one Gold Coast in Chicago and this historical building is in the heart of it. Our endeavor started out with simply wanting a place to stay when we would visit and eventually use in retirement. We love Chicago and all the City has to offer...from great food, to world class shopping, to museums, architecture, sports, beaches...you name it and Chicago has it all.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
The location cannot be beat. Chicago's epicenter for nightlife is at the end of the block with fabulous restaurants like Gibson's, Tavern On Rush, Morton's, etc. coming together in a perfect triangular parklike setting. If you want to feel like a true Chicago resident in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Chicago, this is the place. The tree-lined street is a perfect prelude to your arrival at this historical building. Shopping on Michigan Avenue is just a block away as well. It's an AMAZING location!
