Beautiful Apt in Medieval Village, Spectacular Sea Views
Year Purchased: 2007
Why the Owner Chose Bormes-les-Mimosas
We chose Bormes because it is a beautiful village and, and as for our house, we literally we literally fell in love with it. It is a handsome period structure with spacious grounds which are tranquill & private and yet only minutes walk to the heart of the old village which has great restaurants, interesting shops, galleries and incredibly beautiful little streets and gardens. It is a place to enjoy not just in the summer season but all through the year and we wanted to live in the heart of the old village where we could walk to everything, get to know people and not have to use a car all the time.
Owner's Map of Bormes-les-Mimosas
We first discovered Bormes Les Mimosa in the late 1990s when we rented the Old Chateau for a family holiday. We kept coming back, renting the same place until finally, when offered the opportunity to purchase what some people have described as the most beautiful villa and the most exquisite garden in Bormes, we bought a home here. The Villa was built around 1900 by the same person who went on to build the Grand Hotel which literally next door. Our extensive gardens which had originally belonged to the Old Chateau, now became a botanical paradise for the hotel guests in the early 20th century. When the hotel was sold by the then proprietor of L' Orangerie, he retained the gardens for private use. We have been restoring the gardenssince 2007, reconstructing the paths, the stone walls and escaliers, clearing and replenishing the flower beds. hard work but a labour of love.

This was my fourth visit to Bormes-Les-Mimosas but it was the best ever. The house and gardens were just spectacular...not to mention the views of the sea from all rooms except the kitchen and baths. I wish we could have stayed longer and we are already planning our next trip, this time for perhaps two weeks to a month.

It is difficult to describe just how much we loved this location. The villa is charming, the views are breath-taking, and we loved using this as a focal point for discovering this part of France. We had everything we needed and more... three large bedrooms and wonderful sitting room with views of the Mediterranean, very functional kitchen, and hosts that went out of their way to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. The village of Bormes-les-Mimosas is beautiful. There are flowers everywhere, charming shops, terrific restaurants, and places of interest all within walking distance. As much as we loved driving to other locations in the area, we enjoyed coming back to our home base even more.

My husband and I can verify all the rave reviews for this very special property, as we felt the same. However, reviews and photos still did not prepare us for the sheer physical beauty of the place. I must say that I could not get enough of simply looking out our windows! FIrst, we looked down upon the truly spectacular garden: purple trees, yellow mimosa, and then, as the spring progressed, abundant roses, iris, and many colorful trees, shrubs, plants and flowers, all comprising a true Mediterranean garden. After the garden, one sees the church tower, parts of the village, and then the sea beyond with the islands of Hyeres floating in the far distance. Really beautiful. Lots to see and do in the area, and many restaurants from which to choose - many within the town itself. We especially loved being able to walk to the village through the garden and the charming path that descended into town. A quick but lovely walk. Of course, a very significant part of our enjoyment of the trip was the kindness and consideration of the owners of the property. Having them present during our stay from mid April-mid May was a real pleasure, and one that we want to acknowledge. Thank you both for everything. And a special footnote to gardeners and/or anyone who loves gardens. Early spring was wonderful, however, this garden is the kind that has year around interest. Including beautiful shade trees under which to picnic. It does not get any better than this!

We found this property when searching the south of France for affordable accomodations for 2 adults and 3 young adults. We knew nothing of the area but found the photos and description provided as an acceptable "base camp" for a week of exploration. From the moment we entered the beautiful medieval town of Bormes blanketed with flowers to arriving at le'Orangerie we became enchanted with this peaceful hamlet. The apartment and surrounding gardens set the stage for one of our most memorable vacations. The owners of the property happen to be on site during our stay and were the most gracious hosts providing area information, suggested itineraries, and more. They enlisted their gardener as our interpretter and accompanied us to the fire department to introduce us in a cultural exchange as my husband is a firefighter in the USA. My husband and I want to visit again, staying at least a month at le'Orangerie. The surrounding weekly markets offering fresh flowers, cheeses, breads and produce, breathtaking coastlines, stunning beaches and local wines was far more than we ever expected to find. Climbing the hill behind the house every morning arriving NLT 8AM you will have the privelege of sharing mass with a local monk (accompanied by his dog) closing with A va Maria. You will not be dissapointed choosing this property.

We had a fabulous stay in this very large appartment. The town of Bourne Les Mimosas is a lovely Medieval town with no new buildimgs...and that suited us just fine! LOts of things to see within driving distance and delicious food in and around the town. We loved it here.

L'Orangerie, has is in our experience one of the most under-sold vacation properties out there. We loved the home, the medieval village of Bormes les Mimosas, was awesome. We could have spent our entire week just exploring this lovely village. The location, close to all we wanted to see, but in this quiet peaceful village, in the amazing garden, well, we were surprised to find much more than we expected. We plan on returning. Thanks for the pleasure of staying in your property.
