Keywords:  Villa Home with Guest House

Anchored on the rocky coastline of an ancient coral reef, within a short walking distance of two beautiful white sand beaches on the Caribbean sea, the villa, Casa Caribe offers all the traditional charm of Mexico; red tiled roofs, the rustle of palm leaves in the sea breeze, and riotous stars, all with the breathtaking view of the ocean or jungle from every window.

Hop on a plane to Cancun, rent a car, and drive one hour south to Akumal, and find yourself in the low key paradise you've been looking for. Does swimming or snorkeling in an aquarium sound good? A few minutes walk to Yalku Lagoon is recommended on a daily basis to refresh your sense of natural living.

There's world class snorkeling and scuba diving anywhere along the 250 mile reef; some of the best right out the back door! It won't take long to find a sea turtle in the water or a nest on the shore, as Akumal means "Place of the Turtle" in Mayan. While you're sipping a "cold one," and munching on chips, homemade salsa, and ceviche, the kids will discover the pizza parlor and ice cream vendor.

Akumal, with it's beautiful beaches, is small, clean, environmentally aware, and just minutes away from Mayan ruins, caves, underground rivers, golf courses, and jungle explorations. Dive shops, great restaurants, and a grocery store are walking distance from the house. This is the land of white sugar sand, reef outcroppings, and exotic wildlife, set on the turquoise coast of your dreams!

Casa Caribe is a two story, walled villa, offering security and complete privacy. The main house is 2500 square feet and decorated in Mexican-style, with beautiful, hand-carved furniture and original artwork. The master is upstairs, with oceanside balcony and roof viewing. The other two bedrooms and adjoining baths, are downstairs, along with the living room, dining room, and full kitchen. The furnished back porch is seaside and private, while the front garden/patio has a pool and large deck area with arbor, lounge chairs, and gas grill. The guest house at the front of the property is one bedroom with adjoining bath, living room, and small kitchen, and can sleep an additional three people. This is a wonderful home for a family or group of friends, with ceiling fans throughout, air conditioned bedrooms, maid service six days a week, and a gardener/handy man at your service.

Why the Owner Chose Akumal

We chose Akumal, Mexico for it's quite village atmosphere. Akumal has only a single line of homes along the water, the georgous Caribean Sea, and the 5th largest barrier reef in the world just off shore. We find the Mayans sweet, serving, and generous by nature. Their culture and architecture are fastinating. We can still find a deserted beach, yet enjoy so many conveniences. Until you've seen the Milky Way on a moonless night or the Persaides meteor shower on a late summer evening, you have missed something large. And then there are things as simple as moonlight on water and the rustle of palm leaves with your toes in the sand.

The Unique Benefits at this Villa

Casa Caribe is a fully modernized, 40 year old home designed by one of the Yucatan's most famous architects, Jose Moreno. Some of the walls of the house and the pool deck are constructed from smooth coral rocks gathered from the site. The entire ocean side of the house, upstairs and down is glass doors that open to allow the sea breeze and the sound of the waves in. On a mild day you can walk out the back door and go for a swim over Dick's reef or walk a few doors north and swim the reef at Half Moon Bay, or take a 10 minute stroll to Akumal Bay and swim with the turtles or just relax on the beautiful white sand beach. There is a Mayan village very close by, small grocery stores, delightfully quaint restaurants, and a farmers market in the town square. Our staff has been with us for many years and will see that your stay is enjoyable. Whether you never leave the house, or travel out to explore ruins, cenotes, beaches, the jungle or the eco parks of the area, you are sure to have marvelous memories.

A
Akumal Bay

Great beach for swimming or snorkeling. Sea turtles can be found daily, grazing on the sea grass. Great palapa bar called Lol Ha on sight for food and drinks. Small fishing boats ar anchored in the ba

B
Half Moon Bay

Beautiful white sand beach. Great for snorkeling. The reef here is abundant. Fun palapa beach bar and restaruant on site called La Buena Vida, with swings at the bar and tree house seating.

C
Yal Ku Lagoon

Entrance of the fresh, underground water to the ocean. Fish love it here and there are tons of them! Great for first time snorkelers. There is a $5 donation which is well worth the price.

D
Xcacel

Turtle santuary about 10 minutes drive south of Akumal. Deserted beach great for swimming and good snorkeling at the north end. Nice cenote on the south end. You may be the only ones here! $5 donation

E
Xpuha

Another beautiful white sand beach with great swimming and snorkeling about a 10 minute drive north of Akumal. Water sports here as well. Nice palapa bar with good food and drinks.

F
El Paraiso

Awsome beach and palapa bar in Tulum, about a 20 minute drive south of Akumal, but well worth the time. One of the most beautiful beaches around.

G
Zama

One of our favorite spots to eat with a super view of the Caribean. It's in Tulum, which is about a 20 minute drive south of Akumal. The food here is delicious! There are also Mayan ruins here.

I am Denise Koval and I have been a horticulturist for 35 years and enjoy all the organic sciences. My husband, Roger Burton is a sales consultant for Park Place Lexus and a musician here in Dallas, Texas. We enjoy the tropics, especially the tropical oceans. We are restored with beautiful, natural settings, the sound of the wind and waves, and the flora and fauna. We spend a good deal of our tropical time walking beaches and swimming the coral reefs. We love the food of the tropics; fresh seafood, fruit, and vegetables. We are facinated with different cultures, traditions, cuisine, and don't mind the challenge of a new language.

I have come to love this place!

I wish I could express how in just one week I have come to love this place. Amazing beaches, incredible drinks and food, Lucy's fish tacos and homemade ice cream. Everything has been absolutely incredible. The Akumal Dive Center is the only place to go for snorkeling and scuba. The nicest people, more than accomodating. And Christina and Luis are absolute dolls, so sweet and always smiling. I can't wait to come back and I hope that you enjoy your stay here as much as I did.

We already want to move here!

It's only day 2 of our stay in Akumal and we already want to move here. Christina and Luis are wonderful! Definitely recommend La Cueva del Pascador. Make time for Cenotes. They are unreal. Our favorite was the cliff diving cenote by Coba. A full hour of jumping off a 45 foot ledge left us a little sore, but the experience was worth it. Absouletly recommend the Akumal Dive Cener. Has the most amazing family vibe. They truly went out of their way and gave amazing recommendations.

What a wonderful vacation! We spent most of our time in Akumal - lots of good food and drinks, walks on the beach and rocks, snorkeling and most importantly, lots of relaxation. We found ourselves camped on the porch with good books on most of our days here! Our favorite hidden gem of a restaurant was Turtle Bay Bakery. Chrisina's home cooked meals are delicious! Not to be missed! Thank you for the fabulous headquarters for our honeymoon! Already looking forward to coming back soon.

Our first visit to Akumal was wonderful. What a great Mexican village. We will definitely be returning. Highlights of the week included a trip to Yalku Lagoon. Perfect first time snorkeling for our six year old. (Although, due to rainy weather, visibility was a bit low). La Buena Vida was a great restaurant, hammocks especially. Casa Caribe fit our family perfectly. Christina was wonderful and prepared two delicious meals for us. we loved our stay at Casa Caribe and cannot wait to return! Thank You! guest name: The Dodges guest city-state/province: Denver, CO

What a wonderful world!

Guest: The Robinsons and Coates (-)
Date of Stay: 03/23/11 Review Submitted: 09/04/11

What a wonderful world! Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Casa Caribe. Had breakfast and most lunches at house and suppers at Mexican restaurants. Spent a day at Xel Ha and had fun. Must do the river float on tubes, recommend fins. Outstanding value for $80, all food and drinks, and admission. Snorkeling in Akumal BY best around. Took ferry to Cozumel for 1 day and enjoyed bartering and local restaurants. Lines and guacamoles a must and good price. Took time to sit around pool in evening and enjoy the stars. Beautiful weather, 27c to 34c degrees. Boys took fishing trip out of Puerto Adventurus, big boat, nice trip no fish caught. Better off going with someone from local bay so you can bring home supper for the ladies. First day got groceries at Walmart for week. Best value. Akumal Bay our best snorkeling. Keep eye out for resident iguanas that visit the yard. Christina prepared #2, very good, lovely lady. We would like to thank you for sharing your great home with us. We appreciate it greatly. Rented two cars for the week. Jettas from Hertz, air a must. Keep ice made, it's handy for the blender! Thank you! enjoyed 9 glorious days at Casa Caribe!

Guest: Edwards-Topel (-)
Date of Stay: 02/23/11 Review Submitted: 09/03/11

8 of us, children and grandparents, enjoyed 9 glorious days at Casa Caribe! My husband Jim and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. The beautiful home was perfect for us - my parents stayed in the guest house. Christina and Luis were fabulous! Christina and her husband, Juan prepared us a delicious meal Thursday evening. We have traveled to Akumal previously and by far, our favorite restaurant is Pescadora, favorite waiter is Gebson "Texon" - but all the wait staff are fantastic and the margarita ans ceviche are tough to beat! The beach has great snacks too - we did not favor the Super Chomak - shopped at the market directly across he street - it has a laundry service attached - bring your items in morning and pick them up at 6:00 PM. Thank you to our hosts - had a spectacular holiday! guest name: Edwards-Topel guest city-state/province: Richield, MN

Esta bien. Esta bien. Esta bien! Casa Caeibe!!

Guest: Erin D (-)
Date of Stay: 01/09/11 Review Submitted: 09/03/11

Esta bien. Esta bien. Esta bien! Casa Caeibe!! Great place, thank you so much for our stay. Christina was sweet and amazing. Places to go: 1) Cenotes - Hidden worlds * make sure you check out the Labryinthine cenote if you're going to do just one. It's creepy; it's an adventure. Absolutely scuba if that's your bag. 2) Snorkel Akumal beach in the afternoon. Look for the bouys (spelling?) you will find turtles and fishes. 3) Yal Ku Lagoon: You will difinetly pay for your experience - $20 usd. But, it's awesome. Stay to the left. Rocks are big, small caves, lots of fishes. All sizes, all colors - best! 4) La Lunita restaurant is not to be missed. Modern Mexican food executed pretty well and great atmosphere next to beach and you might get free shots of baby viper snake rum. 5) Xcacel beach is the best (private). It's 10 pesos/persona - don't let them charge you more. (a small sign on the highway) 6) Restaurant across from beach has awesome octopus dish. It's always crowded. You will find it. guest name: Erin D.

the house was ideally arranged for a large group

Guest: Magruder (-)
Date of Stay: 11/06/10 Review Submitted: 09/03/11

What a great place to celebrate my 90th birthday with my family. the house was ideally arranged for a large group. Christina's dinners were the best with dishes we did not find in the restaurants. Enjoyed a visit to the Muyil ruins, south of Tulum - part of the Biosphere reserve. No other tourists or craft vendors - almost like when I visited the Yucatan 30 years ago. I was impressed with what was being done ecologically in this area. Wonderful time. It's hard to know what to start with. We have done so many things during this past week, we were even amazed. My husband and 2 kids ages 9 and 2 had a wonderful time. The house was amazing and quite beautiful. We all came with my mother and grandmother. Our other family also joined us for my grandmother's 90th birthday. It was definately something to celebrate. Christina was wonderful! and very sweet. We snorkeled and snorkeled. Turtles were great to see and the coral reef over at Akumal beach was spectacular. Went to Chichen Itza, full day event, if you're planning on going, go early. The lagoon was nice. ( a lot of fish! ) We had a great time. Sad to go. Thank you so much for sharing your place. Hope to come back soon. guest name: Magruder guest city-state/province: North Carolina
