          Location & View

          • Beachfront:

We have a rocky shoreline of approximately 600 feet for good exploration, this connects to a much larger sandy beach which we have access to because we own vacant property next to this summer home. It is excellent for scuba diving and wetsuit snorkeling and crabs and scallops are abundant and at night bring a flashlight and a dip net (provided) and catch small shrimp right off the rocks. There is also a crab pot. There is also lots of edible seaweed all year round, sea lettuce, sugar wrack and pelvetiopsis which is great for stir-fry, starts out gold and ends up bright green in the wok....moreless

          • Oceanfront:

It is part of the great meander where the Pacific Ocean meets the Puget Sound. The San Juan Islands are the gateway. This property is located on a 3 mile wide channel just off the ocean which separates San Juan, Orcas and Shaw Islands. In addition, this is the leeward side of the island and the most pleasant all year round. There is a fire pit where s'mores and hot dogs are mandatory or maybe just a good glass of wine to be taken in while sitting on the benches and looking at the amazing view....moreless

          • Mountain View:

View of Mt. Baker which often is stunningly clear and turns pink at both sunset and sunrise on a clear day....moreless

We enjoyed every precious moment at this beautiful home with the breathtaking scenery. The home had everything we needed, including a washer and dryer! We enjoyed a campfire one evening. We also explored the beach at low tide and savored the fresh air during high tide. Myself, husband, 12 year old son & 11 year old daughter loved our stay here & we were so sad to leave. We cannot wait to return. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The views from inside the house and outside are gorgeous. The location to Friday Harbor was so convenient. We went exploring at American and English Camps and shopping in Friday Harbor. We went on two whale watching trips and experienced the amazing orcas and beautiful Pacific White Sided Dolphins!!! Thank you so so much to Kristy and Charles for sharing your amazing home and property !!! We look forward to a return trip!

Just got back from our trip to the San Juan Islands. No need to look any further for a place to stay, this vacation home had every thing one could ask for. We really felt at home here! We brought our 2 year old with us and were a little worried about the spiral stair case and loft, so we brought a baby gate and set it up, worked like a charm! There are too many amenities to list here! Beautiful serene setting close to town, on the east side of the island so the weather wasn't too extreme. Definitely recommend this hidden little gem to young and old alike!

This was just what we needed. So private and secluded but close to Friday Harbor. The house and especially the kitchen is so well equipped. Even though it was December we were blessed with nice weather. The stars were amazing! Unfortunately we had high tides so we couldn't walk on the beach but did have a fire in the fire pit. We would definitely come back. This a keeper!

Our stay at this place was splendid. This place is fully equipped with all your kitchen and household needs and has beautiful views of the water. Nothing beats morning coffee on the patio or even meals. We even utilized the fire pit outside to have a camp fire with smores. The Kings Market is close by for all your grocery needs and prices are at par with even big gorcery stores. Great wine selection as well and for some reason even the meats were more tender. The nights are great under the stars and with access to a fireplace and electrical heating, this place is very cozy indeed. Very well kept and resourceful. We would definitely be back with friends possibly near the XMAS month.

We came here for our first family vacation with our 4 months old daughter and this house was perfect. The house is very clean and it is well stocked. It had everything we needed for cooking and BBQing. The view of the water is beautiful from sunrise to sunset. We love that it was only a short drive into town to pickup groceries and movies. We can't wait to come back.

Great stay! We all loved it! Our family of two adults, two kids (9 and 11) and our dog had a wonderful time. Great views from the house, nice little beach close by, lots to do on the island and a great place to relax. We saw deer outside the house every day. Easy drive to Friday harbor for shopping and restaurants. I will recommend this property to any friend or relative.

This place comes exactly as advertised. The view is beautiful. The house is very comfortable, clean and well stocked. It is impossible not to relax there. We saw the bald eagle every day flying above and the seals swimming in front of the house. The yard is huge and well groomed and the location is very private. I just wish it weren't so popular so it was easier to find available dates for our next rental.

This rental was in such a nice, tucked away, tranquil location! We really enjoyed coming "home" to this house for 2 weeks! The house was clean, and had everything one would need to cook, and enjoy the atmosphere. The sunrises were beautiful to watch from the deck or the dining room. There was an eagle nest in one of the very tall trees in the yard. Our dogs loved sunning themselves on the back deck in the morning, and the expansive lawn elsewhere during the day. Our 2 year old loved running, well, everywhere, and exploring the beachfront area. We had a bonfire with a beautiful view and watched the boats pass by. It's an easy 3 miles into town for groceries, playground, and other fun activities. We drove the entire island and explored several beaches. We did a little hiking in Lime Kiln State Park, where there is also a lighthouse. The local camel lives nearby, with his llama and horse friends. The winery is right there as well. I wish we could come back when the lavender is blooming, but the lavender store sufficed for this trip! This is a great location to either enjoy the opportunity to do nothing, or go enjoy exploring! We did some of both!

We stayed here for 4 nights over the Easter weekend. We had a wonderful time. The house is set in acres of land and looks out over the sea. It is equipped with everything you could possibly think of and more. I enjoyed sitting out on the deck at night under the stars covered with the electric blanket listening to the sound of the water lapping against the beach. We saw a seal, deer and an eagle. If you are looking for a fantastic hoise in an idyllic setting then this is the place for you. We hope to return again soon.

We had a wonderful stay with our two pooches. The house was perfect! Beautiful view, private setting with plenty of room for our dogs to run around, and had every amenity you could want. The owners have thought of everything. We had plenty of wood to use in the woodburning stove, a well equipped kitchen, soap, shampoo, hair dryer, plenty of towels (dog towels too!), and very detailed instructions and information about fun things to do on the island. There is even a huge dog bed that our dogs loved. Kristy and Charles were very prompt in answering phone calls and emails and extremely helpful. We will definitely be back!

              Year Purchased: 1997

About the owner: Charles and Kristy Herrick live in Issaquah, Washington just east of Seattle in the foothills. Charles does relief work in Africa, India and Afghanistan as well as executive work in the IT industry. He is an author and several of his books are available for reading and a complimentary copy of his book Breath of Kenya is given to our guests as a way of saying thank you. Kristy is an avid gardener. She raises llamas and a bulldog named Bullard. She weaves, spins and knits. Bullard does nothing.

Why the Owner Chose Friday Harbor:
Wonderful seclusion just an hour's ferry ride from Anacortes. San Juan is quaint and a bit yesteryear. Friday Harbor is a small town with just about everything you need except for franchise stores. San Juan gets about a third of the rainy days of Seattle. The main road is only a mile away and it's a calm rural road which is great for running, walking or bike riding. Turning right just before the winery and heading down a tree arched road we fell in love with our 6 acres of paradise. It is perhaps the finest piece of property on the Island.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Seclusion. Fishing, crabbing, and tide pool viewing. Unparalleled bird and wildlife viewing. Waterfront cookouts. Water, wonderful view of other islands and Mt. Baker.
