    • Beachfront : We have a rocky shoreline of approximately 600 feet for good exploration, this connects to a much larger sandy beach which we have access to because we own vacant property next to this summer home. It is excellent for scuba diving and wetsuit snorkeling and crabs and scallops are abundant and at night bring a flashlight and a dip net (provided) and catch small shrimp right off the rocks. There is also a crab pot. There is also lots of edible seaweed all year round, sea lettuce, sugar wrack and pelvetiopsis which is great for stir-fry, starts out gold and ends up bright green in the wok.
    • Oceanfront : It is part of the great meander where the Pacific Ocean meets the Puget Sound. The San Juan Islands are the gateway. This property is located on a 3 mile wide channel just off the ocean which separates San Juan, Orcas and Shaw Islands. In addition, this is the leeward side of the island and the most pleasant all year round. There is a fire pit where s'mores and hot dogs are mandatory or maybe just a good glass of wine to be taken in while sitting on the benches and looking at the amazing view.

    • Mountain View : View of Mt. Baker which often is stunningly clear and turns pink at both sunset and sunrise on a clear day.

Why the Owner Chose Friday Harbor

Wonderful seclusion just an hour's ferry ride from Anacortes which is only an hour from our home. San Juan is quaint and a bit yesteryear. Friday Harbor is a small town with just about everything you need except for franchise stores. San Juan gets about a third of the rainy days of Seattle. The main road is only a mile away and it's a calm rural road which is great for running, walking or bike riding. Turning right just before the winery and heading down a tree arched road we fell in love with our 6 acres of paradise. It is perhaps the finest piece of property on the Island.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Seclusion. Fishing, crabbing, and tide pool viewing. Unparalleled bird and wildlife viewing. Waterfront cookouts.

Charles and Kristy Herrick live in Issaquah, Washington just east of Seattle in the foothills. Charles does relief work in Africa, India and Afghanistan as well as executive work in the IT industry. He is an author and several of his books are available for reading and a complimentary copy of his book Breath of Kenya is given to our guests as a way of saying thank you. Kristy is an avid gardener. She raises llamas, two chickens (Avis and Mavis) and a bulldog named Bullard. She weaves, spins and knits. Bullard does nothing.

A Million Dollar View Wrapped in Serenity

My husband and I spent the week of September 18th, 2011 at this property. The owners' photos and description were excellent and the property was even more beautiful than the photos convey. The wildlife was amazing, the traffic on the water was entertaining (especially the kayakers) and the view of the mountain was incredible. The grill works great and they've graciously left spices in the cabinets to share with everyone. Perfect place for rest and restoration and close enough to run into town to buy groceries, visit the Whale Museum, dining, go on a whale excursion or shopping. It is intoxicating sitting out on the deck with beautiful views in each direction. There is a wonderful wood stove inside and a firepit outside, along with firewood. If you're planning a trip to the San Juan Islands, this is the perfect place to stay. The owners' were a pleasure to work with in setting up the dates for our stay and in sending us a list of things to do while on the island. We will be back!

My wife and I stayed at this property two times: in summer and winter. Both experiences were wonderful, this place will make you feel at home in any weather. Although all the attractions of San Juan Island are reasonably close and Friday Harbor is just a short drive, once you get to the house you feel miles and miles away from the noise and lights of urban life. Just one evening on the huge deck, watching the stars, looking on the water, listening to the forest is worth to visit this place! Thank you, Charles and Kristy for such amazing vacations.

October 2010, my wife and I chose to spend our anniversary at Friday Harbor. We previously stayed in a B & B, enjoyed San Juan Island, and decided to return. We rented on the internet from the Herrick's and our experience was wonderful! The house was clean, well equipped, and view of sunrises, just wonderful! We would recommend this house, and will rent again! Dave & Jean Benz

My husband and I (with our two dogs) stayed at this lovely home for a wintry February weekend. This is a wonderful location for winter, as well as any other time of year. Well appointed home with thoughtful amenities. Great views and lots of privacy. Owners are very kind and very easy to work with. We would most certainly stay again!

Just got back from staying three nights in this unit, and I must say we really enjoyed our stay. The view from the deck is wonderful and the unit is very secluded. Nicely appointed kitchen and comfortable beds on main floor and upstairs. Would come back and stay again.
