Grande Bay 'Sugarbird' 3BR End Unit Large Balcony Fab Views!

Sugarbird is a fabulous 3 bedroom (2 kings, 2 twins), 2 bath resort condo located waterfront right in Cruz Bay. At Grande Bay Resort, you get the best of both worlds. You're within a brief walk of all that Cruz Bay has to offer - shopping , casual & fine dining, nightlife, watersports, and yet the Resort's beachside location and amenities provide an unmistakable feeling of seclusion. Sugarbird's prime corner location in the upper building offers unobstructed views from the Cruz Bay ferry dock all the way over Pillsbury Sound to the evening lights of St. Thomas.
You'll be welcomed at the ferry dock by our experienced guide, who will assist you with luggage and jeep rental, and then escort you to the condo for a brief orientation. During your stay she is available to ensure that your vacation is relaxing and carefree.
Grande Bay Resort has a beautiful freeform heated pool situated on an elevated coral stone sun deck overlooking the beach. This area also contains a generously sized, tiled spa/hot tub. The resort is the only in town with a spacious waterfront gym which features treadmills, a recumbent bike trainer, an elliptical, live weights, and A PILATES machine! The view of the beach and harbor from the deck and the gym is inspiring.
If you rent a jeep, you'll enjoy a reserved covered parking spot next to the elevator that takes you right to your door. The condo is in the upper building, ensuring privacy and a commanding view. Landscaped walkways take you to the lower building's elevator to reach street level, or simply walk down the steps alongside the gorgeous waterfall.
The condo features a beautiful new kitchen with granite counters and stainless steel appliances, including a built-in microwave and dishwasher. We have bar seating for four facing the kitchen, which is wonderfully equipped for you cooks with an extensive array of high-quality cookware, knives and utensils; a Cuisinart coffee maker with separate grinder; a toaster and a separate toaster oven. There is even a full supply of baking equipment should a special occasion come up. Serve everything on our large collection of tropical colored Fiestaware. For the all-important happy hour, there is a commercial-strength blender for those frozen tropical drinks (yes, the refrigerator has an icemaker), and glassware appropriate for all beverages, from wine to martinis, including plastic glasses you can take outside or down to the pool deck. Enjoy the view from the dining table inside, which seats six comfortably, or enjoy dining al fresco on the large wraparound fully covered front balcony, which has its own dining table for four.
The wraparound front balcony is a unique feature of this condo. Because of the architecture of the resort, our balcony is quite large (about 8' by 15'), and open on three sides so that it features cross-breezes most of the time. The views are spellbinding, ranging from the hills above town, to the comings and goings in the harbor and beach below, to the outer cays in Pillsbury Sound, all the way over to the twinkling lights of St. Thomas in the distance. It is a magical spot at any time of day, whether for morning coffee, a mid-afternoon nap in the chaise lounge, a cocktail at sunset, for dinner al fresco high above town, or for just sitting listening to the surf late at night.

This was our second visit to St. John, but our first to Sugarbird. The first time we visited 3 years ago, we stayed at a lovely home but were about a 10 minute ride into town. This time around we wanted to be located in the heart of Cruz Bay and we choose Sugarbird. The condo is amazing! We were late arriving due to airline delays, but were met by CJ who proceeded to take us right to Sugarbird giving us a quick tour of the town along the way as well as the Grand Bay complex. We ate a late dinner at The Beach Bar and settled in for 9 wonderful days of sunshine, rest, and relaxation. Mornings were spent sitting on the porch watching the boats come and go. Afternoons were spent at the pool or one of the beautiful beaches, and every evening was spent at another of the wonderful restaurants – The Beach Bar, The Banana Deck, Joe’s Rum Hut, Margarita Phil’s, The Fish Trap, The Ocean Grill, Spyglass,… We also chartered a day trip of snorkeling and visiting Jost Van Dyke, with lunch at Foxy’s (we even met Foxy himself), courtesy of Captain Phil and Allison on The Wayward Sailor – I would highly recommend this!! This was by far the best vacation we have taken! Can’t wait to visit again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My husband and I wanted to visit our son who was living on St John and Sugarbird was the perfect location. The photos don't do it justice - I could have spent all day just relaxing on the balcony enjoying the amazing view. We like to dive so Low Key being next door made arranging dive trips very easy. Also, having a parking space right in the building was a great benefit. Barbara provided great suggestions for beaches and restaurants and we added some of our own in the guest book. The condo comes beautifully equipped with everything you could want and then some. The location is ideal - I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else if we have the opportunity to return.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I just returned from a week stay at Sugarbird with my 2 19 yr. old daughters and a friend and her 17 yr. old son. We were met at the dock by Julie who took us straight away to the condo and got us settled in. Sugarbird is a wonderful property, very clean, perfect location with an easy walk to town and outfitted with everything we could possibly need, i.e., beach chairs, coolers, beach towels. The view from the balcony is the best. We rented a SUV for the week and really appreciated the fact that we had assigned parking available. We packed mostly peanut butter sandwiches for our beach outings (the whole grain bread made at the Deli Grotto is amazing) but went out for dinner most nights. We had great dinners at Zozo's, Banana Deck, and Rhumb Lines. We grocery shopped at both Starfish Market and Dolphin Market and both were fine but preferred Starfish. Loved the snorkeling at Solomon Beach, renting paddle boards at Cinnamon Bay, took a fabulous day trip with Pirates Penny to BVI. Barbara was great to work with. Quick to respond to questions and generous with island suggestions and recommendations. We can't wait to return to St. John and would definitely rent Sugarbird again.Did you find this review helpful? We truly enjoyed our stay at Sugarbird; the condo truly exceeded our expectations. It is well located in Cruz Bay with a lovely view of the bay within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. The condo is spacious for our family which includes three children ages 17-20. Privacy is important in that age group! The condo was extremely clean and beautifully appointed. Compared with other condos we have rented, this condo had the little extras that one doesn't expect to find that enhance one's vacation such as binoculars, beach chairs, condiments, sugar, tea, shampoo. We found it very helpful to be met at the ferry and oriented to the condo and town by Cindy. We went nowhere without her map. The desk attendants were friendly and helpful. We made use of the gym, pool and hot tub daily. We are gym rats and found the equipment very adequate. We enjoyed and recommend the following restaurants: Hide Tide, Rum Lines, and Ocean Grille. Sam and Jack's Deli prepared an outstanding Christmas Eve meal which we ate in the condo. St John's Car Rental provided our rental car with friendly service and no glitches. We would highly recommend Sugarbird to friends and hope to return in the future!Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed at beautiful Grande Bay Resort from October 22nd through October 29th. We could not have made a better choice for our stay than the Sugarbird. What a fabulous unit! The pictures on the site didn't do it justice. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The bathrooms were roomy, and the kitchen had absolutely every appliance anyone could need. The balcony wrapped around nearly the entire unit and the view was amazing! We could see all of Cruz Bay including the Ferry Dock and all the way to St Thomas. Rachelle, the on-site manager, met us at the ferry and took us over to the unit. After a very long travel day it was a huge relief that we didn't have to fend for ourselves. The entire resort was extremely well maintained and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. The location of the unit was absolutely perfect. My husband and I were able to walk to all of our favorite spots including Beach Bar, High Tide, Woody's and Joe's Rum Hut.. We also found it an easy walk to both the Dolphin Market and the Starfish Market. It was a few short blocks to the ferry dock as well as the inter-island ferry dock. We were able to enjoy the Rooftop Terrace Pool area with its' extraordinary views. I simply can not say enough about this unit. My husband and I were thrilled with every aspect of Grande Bay. The owners were wonderful and Rachelle the on-site representative was very helpful. We would definitely recommend the "Sugarbird" to anyone who wants a wonderful vacation experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We intended to stay a week, but were forced to extend courtesy of tropical storm Isaac. Our stay to that point was fabulous. Great condo, spacious, beautifully maintained, clean, great location close to everything in Cruz Bay. It looks exactly like it does in the photos. Rachelle was fabulous from the very beginning, answering all our questions, recommending places to eat, shop, etc. When it was clear that the tropical storm would effect us, Rachelle kept us informed, helped us get information (since the ports & airport were shut down), brought us flashlights, etc. The owners allowed us to stay extra days and were most understanding of the situation. You really can't complain about being stranded here:) We love St John. We have been here several times but have always stayed in St Thomas. But since we spent most of our time in St John we decided to stay here and couldn't have been happier with our decision to do that and to stay here. We will stay here from now on when we visit the Virgin Islands, and will certainly recommend this place to all our friends.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Thank you John and Barbara for sharing your home with us and making the reservation process simple and easy! We knew the pictures were pretty, but never expected your home to be as beautiful as it was! We felt immediately at home and loved the view and location. It couldn't have been set up better with the views of the bay and the easy walk to town and Solomon and Honeymoon beaches. We put sugar in the bird feeder and saw many hummingbirds, as well as an iguana who posed on the tree outside the stairwell day and night. We were even fortunate enough to see a mother dolphin and her baby right in Cruz Bay the first morning of our visit. The "kids" (15 and 19) had the ability to go out and wander through Cruz Bay whenever we weren't at the beach or climbing a trail. As good fortune would have it the town was beginning to set up for Carnival and some of the vendor's shops were open. The kids loved the chance to taste authentic cuisine and find souvenirs to bring home. While such a short walk to town and the wonderful restaurants on the beach, your location was very quiet. The beaches are all beautiful, Cinnamon and Solomon's our favorites, but I think our best snorkeling was at Waterlemon Cay. We were fortunate to swim with sea turtles, see a moray eel, squid, more starfish than one could keep track of, beautiful parrot fish, barracuda, etc. What an AWESOME experience. The island had so much to offer with the ruins of Annenberg, the trails (especially the trail to Reef Bay), the wonderful restaurants, Smoothies at the intersection of North road and Central road, etc. We need to return just to experience more restaurants! My only suggestion that I would include to future travelers is that Discover is not accepted (only Visa and MasterCard) and one may want to have additional cash on hand as some businesses do not accept plastic. What wonderful family memories we will cherish! Thank you for sharing your home and making this such a wonderful and stress free experience!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

The Sugarbird was excellent for our vacation and for our needs. The location for us was wonderful. We loved walking to everything. In addition the view was perfect. The condo was extremely nice and fully furnished - I truly miss "our new home" away from home. The pictures do not do it justice. The owners were very informative and very helpful. In addition, the property managers were also very accessible and very helpful. It was a special time for our family and this condo facilitated very good feelings for our experience. Besides the codo, St. John is a great place!Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

If you aren't into resorts, stay at Grande Bay because it is on the edge of downtown with a lovely pool and hot tub, overlooking the harbor with a wonderful strip of sand allowing kids to play on the beach while parents hang out "at" the Beach Bar. It is the best place to stay to enjoy St. John while keeping driving to a minimum. Easy access to town means kids and parents can do their own thing. Low Key Watersports is literally next door and it is an easy walk to the grocery, restaurants, the ferry and all shopping. Although the Grande Bay staff were friendly and helpful, stay in an owner occupied unit managed by Rochelle. She meets you at the ferry, orients you to the town, the facilities and tells you how to navigate the system of stairs and elevators. She is also available whenever issues arise. First time visitors who arrived without Rochelle's assistance were confused, tired and crabby when asking to be directed. Stay in Sugarbird because of the view from this location, easy pool access, beautiful balcony and the amenities. The owners are wonderful - accessible and helpful. Bring a compass, swimsuit, a few clothes, DVD's, bugspray, sunscreen, small flashlight, camera and food, if you choose. TP, PT, tissues, soap, shampoo, binoculars, detergent, dish/washer soap, sand toys, beach chairs, beautiful beach towels, coolers, ice packs, linens, books and cards are all provided. Kitchen equipment includes coffee bean grinder/pot, toaster, toaster oven, hand mixer, salad spinner & a huge array of cooking supplies, plastic, ceramic and glassware. You'll have no regrets. Compare renting a vehicle in St. John with St. Thomas; many differences. Great food everywhere, but our best meal was Miss Lucy's outside of Coral Bay.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We were here for a destination wedding on the island. This condo was steps away from the wedding rehearsal dinner. Short walk to bars , markets, shopping and great restaurants. The condo itself had everything and more that we needed during our stay. The view from the balcony is breathtaking, looking out over Cruz Bay. Steps away from the pool. We will definitely stay here again if we are lucky enough to get the chance.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: We are life-long New Yorkers who love the Long Island beaches in summer, and use any excuse to return to St. John in winter! We first visited St. John in 1983, and haven't found it has changed that much over the years - the beaches are still as beautiful as ever!
Why the Owner Chose Cruz Bay:
We have stayed in villas all over St. John and found that we like staying 'in town' the best. Cruz Bay is a great little town for a vacation - there is a lot going on but it is very laid-back. We love being able to walk just about anywhere in Cruz Bay without dealing with the hassles of parking or having to drive home after an evening out. We found the perfect spot; close enough to the action while remaining peaceful and private.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
We chose our specific unit because it's in the upper building in the 'line' most convenient to the pool and spa. Our line is also the only one not looking out directly over the front building. This way we enjoy unobstructed views of Cruz Bay and beyond, and it feels a little more removed from the bustle of town. As described above, our front balcony is a wonderful spot.
