My husband and I rented this cottage for two weeks, beginning Sept. 1 and during that time, were joined by another adult couple. We were all extremely pleased with this cottage and would not hesitate to rent it again. The location was perfect and even though on a slightly busy street, we were not bothered by any traffic noise and enjoyed the safe, easy walk into town - about 5 minutes. The cottage was tastefully decorated with two very comfortable beds - one King - one Double. The bathroom was small but adequate for our needs. A brand new rear deck gave us a wonderful water view and we enjoyed using the gas grill on several occasions. With an Eastern exposure, we also enjoyed the fabulous sunrises. We were within two minutes of the marina - five minutes from town center - 15 minutes max from the remainder of this delightful town. (walking time) We enjoyed the entire island, as we have in the past. Bar Harbor is an easy 20 minute drive, while other areas such as Northeast Harbor where we took a Ranger led tour to Cranberry Is., is an easy drive. We did not use the free national park shuttle since there is a limited schedule after Sept. 1 but it provides service for those who need it. Many wonderful restaurants can be found in Southwest Harbor in addition to a wonderful grocery store, that is more upscale than most. A larger store can be found in Bar Harbor should you choose. The owner was most congenial and attentive to renter's needs. The kitchen was extremely well stocked - linens galore - personal as well as laundry soap, etc. etc. Our only negative thought is that, living in TX, we can't jump in the car and enjoy this area on the spur of the moment !!!Did you find this review helpful? We spent a long weekend, late season vacation with our early teens (12 and 14). This house met all of our needs! The location is so convenient to all the area restaurants and shops, the kids loved wandering into the village for ice cream, and bakery treats! We were only minutes away from hiking and biking hotspots, including Acadia Mountain and Eagle Lake. This house was a great spot just to hang out as well, with the large lawn...think football passes and frizbee...grand sized deck for eating out or lounging with a good book from the house library (kids & adult offerings). The kids were able to spread out and not be on top of one another, one chose the upstairs double bedroom with a views of the harbor, the other chose one of the sleeping porch rooms....too cute! Did I mention that there's also a X-box 360 or something that the kiddos really appreciated on the night that we went out by ourselves for a change! The owners were super easy to work with, and really put much effort into making sure that everyone who stays at their home are comfortable and well taken care of. Thanks Christie!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

My family of four stayed in the Sea Shore Cottage in July of 2011 and had a great time! It is exactly as pictured and described, a charming early 1900's bungalow with great amenities. The decor is charming, appropriately updated (think Pottery Barn chic) but has retained many neat features of the original house (which antiquers will appreciate). We loved the deck, the adorable "sleeping porches," the charming kitchen and dining room, too. Easily sleeps 4-5. The location is excellent for exploring MDI by car or shuttle and is a nice walk to the local Southwest Harbor downtown, shops, markets, bus stops, wharf and restaurants. We loved the location and prefered it over the much busier Bar Harbor. We stayed for a week and every time we returned to our little house on the harbor, we'd say, "don't you just love our little house?" One tricky part; it is located on the busy Main Street of town. The traffic is a little noisy if you are sitting out on the deck. However, many cottages, inns, B & Bs are located on the island's busy streets, so think of this issue is part of the "charm" of life on the island. And Christie the owner was great at communicating via email or phone, answering questions, etc. If you're planning a stay in MDI, consider this lovely bungalow. We hope to return!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children.
