  The String of Pearls is a wonderful studio cottage. It is a perfect rental for couples who are looking for a very comfortable and affordable place to stay while vacationing on St John. The String of Pearls is nestled on the beach of an upscale neighborhood. Its location is private and there is parking right near the house. The villa is equipped with everything you need to make your stay a very pleasant one. My husband and I have stayed at the String of Pearls four times already, and hope to stay there again. We love staying at the String of Pearls. Not only does the SOP have all the comforts of home, but my husband and I both feel that it is in the perfect location. First of all, it’s right on the water of Great Cruz Bay. A rare find! We sit and relax by the water both day & night. From the String of Pearls, we can just take a short walk along the beach, and we’re at the Westin Resort with all of its amenities. We can also just jump into the car (or take a taxi from the Westin) and it’s only 5 minutes to Cruz Bay, with all its shops and restaurants plus ferry access, or about 10 minutes away from the absolutely gorgeous north shore beaches. BJ, the owner of the String of Pearls, is great. She respects your privacy, but is always just a phone call away if needed, and is always willing to assist in any way. She makes you feel like family. She’s wonderful and a pleasure to know. We look forward to vacationing with BJ again in the future. Nancy & Ed (Massachusetts)

  It's Caron from Canada (last Christmas/New Year's in SOP)! thought about you guys in the islands often all winter and am just now starting to think about making my plans for this coming Christmas/ New Year's! I went on the VRBO site the other day and was disappointed to see that SOP is already booked for that time period :( I LOVED that little place and the location was so perfect for me! If something happens and the renters should cancel, please let me know as I would love to return! [Manager's note: sent to the owner in an e-mail May 31, 2012]

  This charming private studio/house is just perfect for a couple. We've been coming to St. John every December for 25 years. From Resorts to magnificent villas we've tried them all. String of Pearls has a wonderful location. The waterfront beach is natural with pebbles, stones and sand. The photographs are exact. The house is well stocked with a welcoming fruit/cheese platter, drinks and all paper products and more. The kitchen is adequate, but I prefer the local restaurants. Why stay at the Westin when you can have a much more comfortable private space at this house with all the conveniences (washer dryer, water toys etc ) We spent a lot of time out on the large veranda with the big private hot tub. The owner is a delight. She is there when you need her, but respects your privacy. Parking at the house is excellent and safe. Highly recommend "the Pearl" for a couple.

  My wife and I recently stayed at String of Pearls for 10 days. This is a great vacation home with the perfect location. The owner has outfitted the home with everything and every amenity you'll need to relax and enjoy this beautiful island. With the upscale finishings and private location, spa, deck and patio directly on the water in Great Cruz Bay, you won't want to leave. The Westin St. John Resort is right next door. The home is an easy walk or short 3 minute taxi ride to downtown Cruz Bay and all the local waterfront bars and restaurants. Don't pass up the locals at Woody's streetside bar or Johnny's BBQ. The local beaches on the Northshore are spectacular world-class spots. The owner of the home (BJ Harris) is super friendly and laid back, she made us feel right at home, just ask her for anything you need or want to know! This wonderful villa vacation was the best spot in the Virgin Islands.

  Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.

  Owner response: Sometimes you just get perfect guests. Tom and Mary Lou were great and since he is a fireman in real life, he volunteered to fix a rather high downspout for me while in residence!

  Our week long stay at String Of Pearls will always be remembered as one of the best ever. It was sublimely comfortable,with fantastic views. We mostly stayed on the porch, sipping rum drinks. The private beach was great and well appointed. We rented a jeep from hospitality Jeep (ask for Thomas Matthew) and explored to our hearts content. It is close to the less expensive grocery store. We cooked a lot because we prefer that, but you can walk to the Westin easier than crossing a street if you prefer to be served. Kayak and other rentals are also right there. The owner was lots of fun and very responsive to any needs. We even had daily visits from her 2 dogs and her tuxedo cat, all rescues. The proximity to the Westin did not intrude on privacy at all. Hope everyone has as great a time as we did. The shower was nice also.
