  • A Beautiful Home in a Lovely Village---Stay Two Weeks if You Can!

"Sitting at home in front of my computer, it is a treat to begin to recall our relaxing, even lazy, stay at Coeur de Lion and the lovely village of SCL. We were somewhat ambivalent about spending a full two weeks in one place, as we are usually quite active on our vacations, moving every 1-2 days. Therefore, the idea of hanging out in one house and one village for a fortnight was truly unique for us. This is the perfect place for doing just that! The house is a mixture of history and modernity, which invites both comfort and ease while enjoying the experience of a medieval town. Others have spoken to how well appointed Coeur de Lion is and we would definitely agree! In addition, it is ideally located away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist area. It also offers easy access to a village parking lot and even better, a nice path down to the river for some great evening walks. Our mornings were generally slow to get started, after which we loaded our packs with a loaf of freshly baked bread, some cheese, and fruit from one of the local markets and found our way to one of the many treks in the area. The entire area of the Lot and the Dordogne are rich with history, just with the walking. We came upon Roman and Gothic ruins and saw many remnants of the cultures of the 100 Year War and the War of the Religions. Additionally, the area is rich with geological treasures and we enjoyed touring several of the caves. The Grotto du Pech Merle is not to be missed with its 30,000 year old pictographs of an ancient people. Simply amazing! One of the advantages of staying for two full weeks was to find ourselves, over time, truly immersed in the local culture and slowly our faces and even our names became known to the locals. We found the villagers friendly, helpful, and full of life. It is a life that seems to run a whole lot slower and be inhabited by people living more in sync with the abundance of the seasons as they take pride and enjoyment in sharing their crafts and agricultural products. Their hard work to make us, as visitors to their countryside, feel nourished in body and soul was much appreciated!"

  • You won't find anything better than this

"This home is extremely beautiful and comfortable with everything you could want. It's charmingly French in style, in a great location for touring not only this village but the environs which is a very special part of France. Ann provides a large assortment of tourist information and the home is well-stocked with necessities and luxuries. This is one of the nicest places in which we have stayed in all our travels. I am more than happy to recommend it."
