The perfect oasis for a long retreat from a busy city
"We stayed for almost three weeks and really can't say enough good about the house, the amenities, the views, the location ... everything! An unexpected bonus was the multiple amazing hiking opportunities and interesting sites within a short drive of the house, as well as quiet walks right out the front door. We went on an adventure 18 of the 19 days we stayed there and didn't exhaust all the possibilities!
The house is very well taken care of, so we were not lacking for anything we needed. The well-equipped kitchen made it easy to cook up a storm and do some baking too! The outdoor fire pit made for relaxing evenings under the stars, even as the nights started to get pretty cold. The house is so bright and spacious that even on the one rainy day, we were able to enjoy the outdoors through the huge windows looking out over the lake.
Really, I can't see enough good about the house! Loved it and hope to return someday for a whole month."

"We've stayed in Ely multiple times, but this was the best place yet. The house is very nice and the location is very private and peaceful. They have thought of everything from what items you might have forgotten, to how to use certain things in the house. The kitchen is very well stocked with anything you might need. They even had flour, sugar, spices, cooking spray, etc. The welcome basket was also a nice surprise. We will definitely be staying there again in the future!"

"I stayed at the Northwoods Retreat for a long weekend with a friend, her 10 year old daughter and my two Border Collies, and I cannot say enough good things about it! Everything was exactly as advertised and exceeded all my expectations. It was comfortable, quiet, peaceful, remote and relaxing. There were plenty of supplies in the cabin and lots of dry wood for our nightly bonfires. The Border Collies and I started every morning off with a jog down the logging road and back then down the road a half mile to Morcom Lake to cool off, followed by a hike in the woods on a 4 wheeler trail there. I never saw a soul, I felt like we had the area all to ourselves. We checked out some other 4 wheeler trails by the cabin and in the State Forest area nearby, and I found several more to check out next time. There were lots of ripe raspberry bushes near the cabin which was an extra treat, and the minimal mosquito population was an unexpected bonus. It was an unusually hot weekend (90 degrees during the day), so we didn't try the sauna, but it sure looked nice. Outside of hiking we spent our days lounging in the yard reading and enjoying the amazing peace and quiet and the beauty of nature around us. I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway, and I definitely look forward to our next visit very soon!"

"We stayed here with several adults and 7 children and had a wonderful time. There are definitely fish to be caught off the dock and swimming to do, though as someone else mentioned water shoes are a must, really almost everywhere around this area as it's mostly rocky shore. The cabin is clean and well stocked; the kitchen in particular has more "stuff" in it than usual, including knives that work and spices/sugar. There isn't much around the area for groceries though, so whatever you want to have with you, you should bring.
We rented a pontoon boat from Pine Point Lodge and the owners Jeff and Cathy were great; they gave us a map marked with all the places to check out including several little beaches that were tucked away and a lot of fun to explore, and were just a couple minute boat ride away when we needed bait (or realized we forgot toothbrushes).
There is another cabin right next door, and if there are people there you will be sharing the dock area with them. Our "neighbors" were very nice, and it's no big deal, but maybe good to know that you will be in close proximity to other people if that cabin is rented.
One other small thing to note; there is Wi-Fi, but when I tried to use it I got a message saying that it had all been used for the month. Obviously one isn't there for the Wi-Fi-, but as I was planning to download my book onto my iPad once I go there, that was kind of a bummer. Take care of any important online tasks before you get there.
The area is remote and really beautiful. Most of the places we went we had to ourselves. We absolutely loved it, and will be back."
