About the property

3 bedroom 3.5 bath home in a tropical setting, close to the ocean

Traveling with the family or taking time for yourself, you'll love coming home to this beautiful home. Three bedrooms each with their own ensuite custom marble bathroom. Just a short walk to the Makuu cliffs to watch the whales go by. The Asian inspired decor is stunning. I have collected art throughout Asia and you are sure to enjoy the many carvings and paintings. The "Man Cave" has a giant flat screen TV, pool table, dart board and more. The home is on one acre and I live in a cottage on property. The landscaped property has many fruit trees for you to "pick" from. I have bikes for your use to explore the area.

The home is located in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. Centrally located to the airport, 20 minutes, lava flow 30 minutes and Volcano National Park 30 minutes.

About Howard Grant

My name is Howard and I am a contractor on the Big Island. I built this home for myself and 2 sons. The house was a labor of love and did almost all the work myself. My sons are now grown and have families of their own and I felt that it was time to share my home with other travelers. I live in a cottage on the back of the property so I can give my guests privacy when they need it and assistance with questions or issues that may come up. I want to make sure your time on the Big Island is special.

Why Howard Grant chose Keaau

This area is the "sunshine belt" of the East side. Walking distance to the ocean and some great fishing spots. Mostly its quiet and private.

What makes this house unique

Each bedroom has its own custom bath. I bought most of the tiles and cabinetry and art during my travels in Asia.

Clean, large, fruit trees in yard

  • 5 of 5

Loved the fruit trees on the property and a short drive or bike ride to see sunrise at the beach. House was clean with great finishes and beautiful asian art. Great for our multi-generation family trip. Thanks Howard for renting your fantastic property.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mindi for choosing to stay with us while visiting the Big Island! It was truly a pleasure to have you and your family stay here. I am inspired more now to cultivate my land with more edible plants and trees so that guests visiting are able to see how blessed we are in Hawaii to be able to harvest so much from the land! Thank you again for staying with us! Aloha & GOD BLESS!! Howard Grant

Peaceful and all you need

  • 5 of 5

The property is away from downtown Hilo and has a 10 minute walk to the ocean. Pool table was a lot of fun and the dart board also. Beds are very nice and House is large and comfortable. Everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. There were some baby chickens running around each morning. We saw some whales on our walks to the beach. Overall the house was clean and had everything you would expect. I would stay there again.

fun and pleasurable experience

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 nights at this fantastic home, 2 couples. It was our first time on Hawaii and we enjoyed it a lot. The house was amazing! Howard welcomed us wholeheartedly even though we arrived late at night as our flight had been delayed. We right away felt at home in this super clean and beautiful house inspired by Feng Shui. The interior shows great craftsmanship in wood and tile work. The art work alone is worth spending a couple of hours here. We loved the photos, paintings and wood carvings, telling us a little bit about the owner and making us curious about his stories. We will always remember this place and our time here and thank Howard for making our stay so memorable! The breakfasts on the porch were energizing, watching wild birds, smelling the fresh air after the morning rain, taking in the warm sunshine, feeling at peace. Thank you for giving us your advice for places we visited! Thank you for inviting us to enjoy the yard with coconut palms, pineapple and many other plants that we didn't know before! Thank you for letting us use your snorkel gear! We look forward to visiting Hawaii again and your place will certainly be a reason to come back to the Big Island. Aloha!

Absolutely Amazing Property

  • 5 of 5

If you need a place to stay that has plenty of room and lots of amenities, you do not need to search any further. This house is everything the listing promises, and more. Located a short (less than half an hour) drive from the Hilo airport, the area is covered in tropical vegetation and sparsely populated. Aside from the occasional car passing, and the roosters crowing, it is incredibly quiet, and you can even hear the roar of the ocean in the distance. Howard is the perfect host. He lives next door and, thus, is readily available if you need him, but otherwise gives you the space and privacy. He will not go into the house while you're there unless you insist!

We have rented through VRBO a number of times, and in various places around the world. This house stands out as one of the best. I cannot think of enough good things to say about this property, and we all look forward to returning soon for another visit.

  • 5 of 5

Really thankful for Howard~ very huge house and very nice environment! They prepared everything in the house, even though I got a baby I still feel very comfortable and relax in this place. Every looks exactly as the pictures. This is the best experience ever I had on the homeaway!

Stunning decor, comfort, conveniently located and great hospitality

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful rental and I'll stay here again without hesitation. It's extremely child friendly as well as romantic. Where to begin, the decor is imported from all over the world and you feel like you're in someone's home rather than a cookie cutter rental. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms functional. There's a tub big enough for a family of four. There's also an outdoor shower which is convenient and comfortable. The back yard is incredible. Coconut trees, star fruit, banana trees set on Lava. Uncle Howard took us fishing with his grandkids in the neighbors fish pond and we got to meet the neighbors. We saw a 3000 year old lotus flower and caught a bunch of fish too. It was wonderful! We then ran into them at the farmers market in town. The man cave is great! There's a pool table and bikes as well as coloring for kids. Uncle Howard helped us find what we were looking for on the Island. Such a gracious host!

Owner's Response: We loved having your family as guests! Next visit we can take your son to catch his first fish and Eve can hang-out with my granddaughter again at Benno's pond. They really enjoyed her company. Wish you guys the best! You were the perfect guests! Aloha & GOD BLESS!
