Hale Kai Nalu- Oceanfront Luxury Home W/ Pool & Spa- Hilo-Side

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Welcome to Hale Kai Nalu (“home of the ocean wave”) - a perfect place to call home while you enjoy all that the magic that the Big Island has to offer. Here, everyday stresses will melt away and our Aloha-pace of life will become yours. Make our cozy and private oceanfront home yours while you vacation.

Hale Kai Nalu is a newer 3-bedroom, 2-bath home with spectacular views of the ocean. The master suite is located away from the other bedrooms and includes a walk-in shower, his and hers vanities, and a soaking tub. The 2 guest bedrooms and the guest bathroom are on the opposite end of the home. One of the guest bedrooms offers a wonderful view of the ocean as well while the other offers a garden view.

The home is tastefully furnished and has just about everything you need to make your trip memorable. We provide all linens and towels, complimentary bottled water, and wireless high-speed internet access (bring your laptop). The view from the property is very special – you’ll be treated to the drama of the waves, white fluffy clouds, beautiful sunrises, passing cruise ships in the distance, and our version of backyard wildlife. Sea turtles, dolphins, whales (Nov-May), and even the occasional manta ray can be spotted from the oceanfront. Mynas, doves, cardinals, geese, great frigatebird, and other birds occasionally drop in for a visit and provide a source of entertainment.

At Hale Kai Nalu, we strive to be friendly to the environment. We have solar water heating, fluorescent lighting, and energy-efficient fixtures. Ceiling fans throughout the home and screened windows allow us to take advantage of the wonderful breezes to cool the home. We partner with a eco-friendly house keeping service to minimize the use of harsh chemicals. Finally, we recycle and make it easy for our guests to participate with conveniently placed bins.

The entire property is fenced for additional privacy and peace of mind. There is a front entry gate with an automatic opener (a portable remote control is available to allow convenient access from your vehicle). The oceanfront area is accessed through a pedestrian gate that is lockable. Access into the home is easy - there are no stairs and access through the front door is through a slight transition.

The home is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park, about 18 miles from the historic town of Hilo (main town of the Big Island) and 10 miles from Pahoa – you’ll have easy access to various shops and services. It is an ideal location to launch all of your east Hawaii adventures.

Why The Owner chose Hawaiian Paradise Park

We chose this location mainly for the peaceful, oceanfront location and its proximity to many of East Hawaii's sights. The half-acre lot provides privacy and the opportunity to create a lush tropical landscape. We're constantly experimenting with plants that thrive in the oceanfront environment so our landscape is wonderfully evolving.

What makes this house unique

Relaxing in the pool and hot tub are our favorite activities when we visit the property. Especially enjoyable is hanging out in the hot tub in the evening while looking out at the stars and moon, smelling the ocean mist, and listening to the surf.

Having the full kitchen and grill provides us with the ability to create home-cooked meals while visiting.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The view is awesome! We saw a whale! The pool is fun! The home is very beautiful and comfortable for a family. We came to visit our son and his family & all 6 of us had a great time! We are sorry to leave, especially since we are going home to a foot of snow.

Also nice to have pool toys and beach supplies.

Fabulous home with an Amazing view.

  • 5 of 5

We chose this home for the pool, view and the quiet neighborhood & it did not disappoint!! The home is open & spacious & the trade winds coming through in October made it nice and cool. We loved the quiet neighborhood which is ideal for rest & relaxation. We did not cook since we had lots of left overs from the many restaurants we visited but the kitchen is big enough for several cooks to work in there. The bedrooms are large without bumping into each other & the master has sliding doors to hear the crashing of the waves which we adored. The location is set back from the main roads but if you want to be on the ocean with quietness around you to hear it you will not mind at all. We visited many sites around The Big Island including Ken's Pancake House! lol but seriously, we went north of Hilo to the Wiapio Valley Lookout, the Botancial Gardens & waterfalls, the Rainbow Falls & even crossed over to the Kona side to eat at the Kings Shopping Center then drove the famous Saddle road back in the evening. It was not as scary as some say it is though. We went south to the Volcano & visited the Nahuku Thurston Lava Tube & had our 20th anniversary dinner at the The Rim Restaurant with a window seat to watch the lava glow. We then went to the observatory & saw it much closer. We didn't stay long: it was night time, cold & the wind was blowing like crazy. We went further south to the Punalu'u beach aka Black Sand Beach & saw an amazing green turtle sunning on the beach. We had to do selfies & all kinds of pictures. The turtle just lay there relaxing. But we were able to see 4 more turtles in the waves on the shoreline & every once in a while they would lift their heads out of the water. We then went further south to eat at a small diner Shaka restaurant. I had the mahi-mahi & it was delish. We also visited downtown Hilo & ate at the Pineapple restaurant & the Cafe Pesto, both were awesome. My husband went on an open door helicopter ride to see the lava flow (I'm asthmatic and chose not to go) & he is still talking about it. I chose to go to the Discount Fabric store & purchased at least 12 fabrics that I can only get from the Islands. I make quilts, scarves, clothing etc. We didn't do all the wonderful things to do on this amazing island but after each adventure we were most happiest returning to this beautiful relaxing home to rest up for our next adventure. We would love to stay here again on our next return to the Big Island.

A really wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

It was our second stay at this really great property and enjoyed it as much as the first time. Great pool, great patio, great yard, great house, great location!!! Nice to still see turtles every day! If you want to spend time in a quiet neighborhood and enjoy Hawaii, this is the place. Greatly furnished house, comfortable. The manager and owner quickly respond if there is any problem at the house. The beds are very comfortable! Just open the windows and the breeze and fans make this house so comfortable! We spent a day on the Kohala coast and ran away from this hot and dry place and were so happy to get back to the luxuriant Hilo area with beautiful gardens. We hope we will have a chance to come back again very soon.

A favorite home on the Puna Coast

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this house perhaps 3 times. This trip was as wonderful as the others. Nicely decorated and comfortable seating and sleeping. Well equipped. Plenty of outdoor space and seating. Absolutely my favorite pool on the Puna Coast...I've swam in several. The pool is beautiful and is positioned so that it gets plenty of sun allowing for a comfortable swimming temperature.

Beautiful house with ocean view along with swimming pool and hot tub!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at this location with your own pool and hot tub along with a great ocean view. The location was close to be able to visit the volcano national park and the variety of waterfalls in Hilo. We would stay here again when we come back to Hawaii.

Absolute Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We loved our time at Hale Kai Nalu. We truly felt at home and were sad to leave. We actually altered our itinerary so we could spend a day at the house just enjoying the pool and beautiful weather.

The backyard area is so great - between the lava rock cliffs and waves crashing, the pool, the shaded table and the hot tub - what's not to love!? We enjoyed many meals outside both at the table and out on the lava cliffs (not too close to the edge!). The home does not have air conditioning, but if windows and fans are managed properly, the house cools off nicely with the ocean breeze. I slept with some of my windows open and drifted away to sleepyland to the sounds of waves crashing, coqui (frogs) and sometimes - rain. Pure bliss! Our beds were super comfy.

The house was super clean and well equipped. We found everything we needed - plenty of towels and all of the kitchen equipment we needed. There was even a drying rack for laundry - something I have never seen at a vacation rental, but have often wished I had. Speaking of laundry, the washer and dryer were a dream - very roomy and modern. The washer even played a little ditty to let us know our wash was done. I believe it was My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean. It made us smile!

We ran into the housekeeper/caretaker - we loved her! Not only was she warm and welcoming, but she gave us a great tip: there is a small grocery store in the True Value on Orchid Land Drive just a few minutes away. So instead of running all the way back to Hilo for additional grocery items and snacks, we went there.

We were so appreciative of the beach equipment stash. We made good use of the beach towels, snorkels, boogie board, chairs and beach umbrella. We highly recommend snorkeling at Kapoho Tide Pools.

We loved the location, not just for the view - but proximity to everything we wanted to do (we were moving on to the Kona side for the second part of our trip so we didn't make that drive from here). It was not a far drive to Hilo or Volcanoes National Park - or even South Point. The house is 4.5 miles off of the main highway - a drive we enjoyed! We didn't feel the neighborhood was unsafe, but since we were gone during the day, we really appreciated being able to secure the house with the alarm system and gate.

The owner was responsive and easy to work with.

I could go on and on. I will be back!
