Oceanfront, Remodeled 2017, POOL COMING for 2018 Season!
The pool is complete. It was constructed in the Winter and early Spring of 2018. This is a cement pool. Not the fiberglass pool inserts you see all over the Outer Banks. The pool deck is all pavers, that might not sound like a big deal but its so much prettier than cement with some pavers on the periphery.
The pool has a really cool light system. Super easy to use. Many colors, multi color flashing "party" mode, and our favorite, an alternating red, white, and blue 4th of July mode. You would not think something as simple as a pool light would make such a difference. But I am sure when you look down at the pool from the top deck you will say something like “that’s really cool.”
The pool is a salt water pool. If you taste the water it will taste slightly salty, not like the ocean but only slightly salty. An electric salt cell constantly breaks down the sodium chloride, into sodium and chloride. The clorine that does not bond with organic compounds in the pool rebounds with the free sodium. The effect is a very soft water. You don’t smell of chlorine when you step out of a salt water pool. You don’t feel sticky or chalky the way you sometimes do after being in a chlorinated pool.
Look down from the top deck at the neighbor's pools and know you made the right rental decision.
The pool also has a huge, overbuilt, 14+ foot long, bar, with pergola roof. The bar itself is made of large 6 inch by 6 inch timbers. Really solid feel when you put your beer down. This sure to be the primary gathering spot for your vacation.
The ocean, a pool, and a hot tub, so many ways to enjoy the water! The pool can be heated for an extra charge.
WHY CHOOSE SURF DREAMIN?
We get the question all the time, so, yes, there is WIFI.
The name of the house is Surf Dreamin', kinda says it all! Oceanfront! This is a spacious oceanfront home that boasts expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean, with the soothing sound of the rolling surf. One of only 276 homes on the ocean in its area. Now 276 might seem like a big number until you realize they are the only homes on the ocean along more than 40 miles of some of the least developed, most wide open beaches on the East Coast of the United States. Don't be fooled by misleading photos, or advertising like, "ocean view", or "semi-ocean front". Many of those homes are tantalizingly close to the beach but require a couple mile drive to get to a public access to the beach. Surf Dreamin' is the real deal, OCEANFRONT, abuts Federal government between ocean and lot. Acres of sandy beach per person, on the busiest beach day.
WHERE IS THE HOUSE?
The house is in Salvo, NC. Salvo is part of the Tri-Villages area which includes Rodanthe, NC and Waves, NC, To the north of the Tri-Villages area are 25 miles of the the Pea Island National Wildlife Preserve. To the south of the Tri-Villages area there are 13 miles of Federally owned never to be developed land. When you arrive in the Tri-Villages area you really feel like you have gotten away from it all. No Home Depot or Lowes. No McDonalds or Burger King. Hardly any chain stores. Almost exclusively single family homes, little condo development. Locally owned restaurants, bars, and other businesses. Almost sleepy until the arrival of kiteboarding a few years ago.
The house is located in the Outer Banks on Hatteras Island. The geography is unique. Hatteras Island becomes very narrow here. The island is only 13 house lots wide. Three to four lots on the west side of NC 12 and 8 or so lots on the east side. That means that you can enjoy the roar of the Atlantic Ocean, huge waves, big dunes, and the best surfing on the East Coast within a 1 minute walk from the house. And a 5-7 minute walk gets you to the placid waters of the Pamlico Sound, a water sports playground, where you can enjoy kiteboarding, wind surfing, SUP boarding, kayaking, water skiing, wakeboarding, among other activities. Go to this link for more information on the Outer Banks.
Hatteras Island is better than the North Beaches area of the Outer Banks. The North Beaches areas of Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Corolla, Duck, and the like offer Home Depot and Lowes, McDonalds and Burger King, Walmart and Kohls. Hatteras Island has hardly any chain stores or chain restaurants, and more than 36 miles of undisturbed national seashore, much of it accessible by four wheel drive vehicle. Hatteras Island offers easy access to the best parts of the Pamlico Sound with endless possibilities for water sports. The Atlantic Ocean beaches on Hatteras Island are wide and flat. In the North Beaches area, long sea wall with narrow beaches in front abound.
WHAT IS IT LIKE WHEN WE GET THERE?
On the 1st floor there is a small bedroom with bunk beds and full bath. Just steps away from the first floor entry is the pool constructed in the Winter and early Spring, 2018.
Up to the 2nd floor takes you to three bedrooms. A master with king sized bed and ensuite bath is the highlight. The other two bedrooms are connected by a Jack and Jill full bathroom with a tub. One of those bedrooms has a queen sized bed, the other to single beds. Perfect for a family. A game room with a bumper pool table that converts to a poker table and a large closet for the washer and dryer complete the 2nd floor. The 3rd floor offers living room, dining room, kitchen, and screened porch, all with spectacular views of the Atlanta Ocean. There is a half bath on the 3rd floor. A master bedroom with queen sized bed and ensuite full bath complete the complement of accommodations.
So this last part of this description will be about trip insurance.
We recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Purchase trip insurance instead of relying on an owner cancellation policy. You'll hardly ever use the cancellation policy but the trip insurance will let you rest easy. We highly recommend that you purchase trip insurance from the insuremytrip website. We are not affiliated with that company, and make no money from that referral, we point that out because the rave recommendation below may seem like we must have some ulterior motive in recommending them.
We use insuremytrip for our personal travel. They have really good prices compared to travel vendors like cruise lines and travel sites. They answer their phone, their CSRs speak English as a first language, and they are knowledgeable. But by far the most important reason to use insuremytrip.com is that they waive the pre-existing condition clause in the policies they sell.
So why is waiver of the pre-ex clause so important? Trip insurance covers you if you or someone in your travelling party, or a close relative gets sick. A pre-existing condition is something that existed at the time of purchase of the coverage. So if your mother is ill with heart disease when you book your vacation, and she goes in the hospital with heart failure 2 days before your trip then most travel insurance companies will reject the claim on the ground of a pre-existing condition. The problem is that almost all the events or conditions that could cause you to miss your trip were pre-existing at the time you book your trip. So the pre-ex clause swallows most of the situations that might occur and routinely denies you coverage. Therefore a waiver of this clause is the single most important aspect of purchasing trip insurance.
The thinking at insuremytrip is that no one books a trip intending to not go, but many of us have a loved one with some pre-existing condition.
So why purchase trip insurance as opposed to relying on the cancellation policy of your travel vendor? Because most causes of not going on vacation are not known until very close in time to departure. Hurricane, power outage, or again, imagine Mom has heart disease, she is declining and is in an out of the hospital every few months. If she is in the hospital a month or two before you go, chances are she is going to be out by the time of your travel. You don't know she is going to have another decline and hospital admission until days before you depart. At that point almost no travel vendor, and certainly no VRBO rental cancellation policies, are going to refund your money.
So, again, we wholeheartedly endorse purchasing trip insurance from insuremytrip. By the way, the foregoing has been composed by the owner of this rental house, who is a lawyer, and has studied this area sufficiently to be well informed on this topic.

Why Deborah and David Reed chose Dare County
Ocean front. Many homes are "semi-oceanfront" They sometimes look good in the photos but you may have to walk a couple blocks to get to public access to the beach. Surf Dreamin' is truly oceanfront with its own path over the dunes the the beach. The beach is wide and beautiful. The Tri-Viliages area sufficiently remote to make the beach seem like an exclusive private beach even on July 4th.
What makes this House unique
Oceanfront. Recently remodeled. New gunite pool, with pavers, huge bar, salt water system, and the coolest pool light ever. New heart pine flooring. New paint. Better decor, we believe the wood should be on the floor and paint on the walls, unlike most others in the Outer Banks:) Better floorplan, really nice architectural plan. Living space on the 3rd floor. One master with ensuite on the 3rd floor. 3 bedrooms on the second floor. 1 king bedroom with ensuite bath and a view of the ocean. There is also a queen bedroom with shared jack and jill bath with tub, perfect for a family. Game room on second floor along with laundry. The first floor has a bunk bed with ensuite bath. The floorplan really spreads out an extended family or a large group really nicely. Game room. The game room has a bumper pool table. If you have never played you'll love it. The bumper pool table can be converted with a separate top to become a regular table for food service, laundry folding or whatever your needs. In the evening that top can be flipped over to become a poker table with proper playing surface, chip slots, and drink cup holders. This is the ultimate convertible game room, accommodating all ages at all hours.

Surf dreamin was a great home to stay at for our vacation in september. The home provides everything you need to enjoy your stay. What else can beat coffee on the deck overlooking the ocean in the morning and enjoying the warm hot tub at night? There is a bit if a walk to the beach but it's not bad, just make sure to stay on the path to avoid cactus plants!
Great house, great location!
This was a second summer in the Waves/Salvo area. This house is in a great location. Nice neighborhood where kids can ride bikes and you can walk your dog. And it's a nice walk to the Village Conery in the evenings for some ice cream. The house is in good shape, has all the kitchen utensils, plates and glasses you need. Nothing in the pantry like other VROB properties, but we came prepared with spices and things for grilling. The charcoal grill is like one you'd find in a park, so bring a grilling plate so your stuff doesn't fall through the grate. It's a bit of a walk to the beach, but so worth it. The beach path is shared by houses on each side with no pubic access so you have a lot of beach to yourself. The public access paths are further down the road. We rented the wooden lounge beach chairs, next time I'd rent the aluminum ones, which would be lighter to carry. We enjoyed dinners in the screened in porch which has great views and a nice breeze. We'd stay here again.
Good, nice furnishing, hot tub, nice views from deck, quiet
Enjoyed my stay quiet, peaceful. However I warn anyone not familiar with the area the path to beach over dunes is a rather strenuous hike steep uphill areas of path of loose sand were to much for the fairly fit 80 year Olds that came with us and not that easy for us over 50 crowd when carrying all things needed for spending time at the beach... chairs, towels, sunscreen, drinks, umbrella.etc. So be warned, of course you can always drive to public access areas but kind of defeats purpose of beach front rental. The home itself was lovely, comfortable, with a few execptions, badly rusted chains on porch swing made use unsafe (reported so hopefully will be fixed) 2 screens missing on screened porch, if planning on grilling may want to bring one from home the rack on grill extremely rusted and would need a lot of work with wire brush before usable unless covered with foil or using some type of pan designed for grilling was used. Otherwise liked the property, and location short couple blocks to rental management offices staffed by three lovely helpful women when I was there. Around the corner in walking distance was a creamery open 6-9 pm, couple blocks to dollar store. Over all I would recommend this rental property.
One of the great places on Earth to kiteboard. The best place on Earth to learn how to kiteboard!
