About this property
Views, mountains, beaches, bliss...
*** From 1 August 2017, there will also be a separate studio apartment downstairs that sleeps 2 if you're looking for something smaller - or combine the two to sleep 8. ***
So you've seen the views... Now add to that the mountains behind the house, the beach down the road and the wide range of hikes, scenic drives, water sports, restaurants, coffee shops and vineyards on offer nearby. The big decking area is perfect for a leisurely sunrise breakfast, relaxing with a book or perhaps a glass of local wine at sunset. If you enjoy cooking, you'll appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, where you can cook up a storm or even make muffins (if there's anything specific that you need, please just ask us in advance and we'll try our best to provide it). You can also use the built in braai (BBQ) facilities in the garden and try some juicy South African steak or boerewors (local sausage).
This little house is ideal for a family or group of friends and has everything you need for a good holiday: a nice open space for socialising, a decking area with a stunning view, comfortable beds with quality bedding and two bathrooms (one ensuite). The bedrooms are located at the back of the house, which means they get less sun and less heat. The two double bedrooms have air conditioning.
There is a washing machine in the garage which is shared with the apartment downstairs. A clothes line and drying rack are also available.
You will have access to the entire upstairs section of the house (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms), which has a private entrance. You will also have use of a tandem garage that fits two cars one in front of the other.
If you like the house, wait until you hear about the area - it's amazing! We moved to Lakeside in 2015 and there's nowhere else we'd rather be. You'll find beaches for swimming, walking and water sports - some with big waves, some with small and some with tidal pools. There are beautiful mountain hikes on your doorstep and a lagoon with a vibrant bird life (see if you can spot some flamingos!) just down the road.
If you venture a little bit further south, you'll find St James, famous for its tidal pool and colourful beach huts, and beyond St James the quaint, bohemian, trendy and buzzing Kalk Bay with its numerous shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a fishing harbour. If you stay on this road, you'll go through the residential area of Fish Hoek, the picturesque Simon's Town with its famous penguin colony at Boulders Beach, and eventually you'll reach Cape Point.
To the north you can explore the Constantia Wine Route (and some of its wines!), go for a walk or hike at Silervermine Nature Reserve or Constantia Nek or take a stroll through the pine plantation known as Tokai Forest. The beautiful and not-to-be-missed Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden is also within easy reach on the way to the city centre.
Once you've enjoyed some of the incredibly great outdoors, perhaps it's time to try one of the many restaurants and coffee shops for some yummy food or barista coffee. One of our local favourites is Sostanza, a restaurant/coffee shop in Lakeside within walking distance (if you don't mind the hill) of the house. It's casual and friendly and serves consistently delicious meals and baked goods, from breakfast to dinner. There is also a Woolworths grocery shop next to Sostanza as well as a fish monger. There's a Pick n Pay grocery shop at the other end of Lakeside and a Checkers in Muizenberg, just down the road.
Cape Town city centre with all its attractions is a mere half hour drive from the house.
There is a train station in Lakeside if you fancy catching a train down the peninsula or into town. Please be cautious if using the trains and only travel during peak hours when there are more people on the trains. Also, it's good to be aware that they run on African Time ;-)
Please note that there may be other guests staying in the downstairs apartment from August 2017 onwards.
