About Heather

I am a sixth generation Montanan who grew up in the Gardiner area. I know much about Yellowstone National Park and things to do at the North Entrance, Gardiner, MT. With my husband, we operate a dude ranch North of Gardiner and he also guides elk hunters in the fall. When we are not tending day rides on horses at our ranch, we enjoy hiking, fishing, and touring Yellowstone and the surrounding area. Call me for more information or if I can help you plan your vacation!

Heather purchased this house in 2004

Why Heather chose Yellowstone Country

I grew up on Emigrant Creek so I jumped at the chance to own this cottage. The cottage is easy to get to, but it is away from the crowds of Yellowstone National Park without losing any of the beauty of the area. It is located near Chico Hot Springs, which is a quaint little resort with natural hot springs to swim in, horseback riding, and dining. Yellowstone is an easy drive for day trips.

What makes this house unique

Emigrant Creek runs through the property and next to the cottage. You may hike the old mining roads that go for miles and follow the creek to its source. The area also offers fishing either in area creeks or Yellowstone River. I love to get a cup of coffee early in the morning and sit on the back porch to watch the sun rise, then go for a quick, quiet hike up the creek. Bliss!

Saved my family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We booked a different cabin through VRBO and when we arrived, it was absolutely horrible (windows all sealed shut, neighbors smoking on the patio, no hot water, in an alley behind the car wash). Luckily the Old Chico Cottage was available and it was absolutely amazing. Our three kids loved sleeping up in the loft, and you could hear the creek running past while you soaked in the claw foot tub. It is a little farther from Yellowstone than some of the other cabins, but if you are looking for a true Montana experience, this is the spot for you. Completely private, quiet, peaceful and rejuvenating after a long day in the park. I love the Old Chico Cottage and I wish I could go back again and again (and we might!)

The peaceful sound of rushing water . . .

  • 5 of 5

Old Chico Cottage invites you into nature and into the peace and relaxation that being in the beautiful outdoors stimulates. It was a perfect place to catch-up with old friends and entertain new friends from Livingston. It was appointed with everything we needed and Heather, the owner, was responsive when the electricity went out for a very short time. One of the very best things about Old Chico Cottage was the sound of Emigrant Creek rushing by . . . that sound inspired the best sleep I've had for years! Thank you, Heather for your wonderful hospitality! We hope we'll be able to return soon!

Hidden gem

  • 4 of 5

Our family (three generations) loved our stay at Chico Cottage. It is well equipped, clean, and very spacious yet cozy.

We barbecued several nights and enjoyed eating our dinner on the patio by the creek. The location was great! We road our bikes to Chico Hot Springs several times, went to Yellow Stone one day and also did some river rafting. We are already talking about coming back next year!

Chico Gem

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Heather! Perfect place for small family reunion. We booked your place because Chico's Hot Springs Resort could not accommodate us- am I ever glad your place was available! The setting on the creek was delightful, room arrangements perfect for our family of 10(4 grands). Deck, gardens lovely, amenities plentiful although we never did figure out the TV (no loss). We swam and dined at Chico's, guys fished nearby. Perfect spot for us!!

What a perfect place for our family gathering!

  • 5 of 5

Plenty of room to spread out. A patio & covered deck for sitting outdoors - taking in beautiful views & a creek nearby. A long dining table was perfect for meals & playing games. Kitchen has enough space for cooking big meals. Bedrooms (2) & family room downstairs offered quiet space for restfull moments. Main floor bedroom was appreciated for those who don't navigate stairs well. Upstairs 3 beds offered quiet sleeping & naps. Just a quick few minutes to Chico for swimming & soaking in hot springs. We would come back again for a family gathering - this is truly a great place! Thank You!

Lovely cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at the Chico cottage. We had plans to go to Yellowstone and Chico Hot Springs and could easily access both from the cottage. The cottage was very comfortable. I really enjoyed hearing the creek (right next to the house) in the evenings and in the mornings. I hope to stay here again.
