Delve into the vintage clothes, crafts and trinkets of trendy Notting Hill, wandering down cobblestone avenues, perusing colourful buildings and hunting for antique treasures. Stop off at an independent bookshop and a classy cafĂ© on the way home for a little breather. When â full of caffeine and caught up on literature â you do eventually return to your new home-from-home, the leafy green expanse of Hyde Park, just a twenty-three-minute walk away, comes calling for a romantic picnic or a gentle stroll.
Nestled between Notting Hill and Hyde Park, Bayswater is a great base for exploring everything that Central London has to offer, yet maintains a tight-knit, neighbourhood feel which sets it apart from surrounding areas. Grand white stucco terraces and communal garden squares make up the majority of housing in the area, so architecture aficionados will be in for a treat. Large green spaces attract families and wealthy locals alike, who you'll find taking in leisurely strolls throughout the week. Formerly home to Whiteleys, one of Londonâs first department stores, opened in 1911, a massive redevelopment project is underway transforming the Grade II listed building into private residences alongside the UKâs first Six Senses hotel and a selection of luxury restaurants. Queensway, Bayswaterâs main artery, is a prominent shopping street with a vibrant multicultural feel. If youâre on the hunt for some unique finds, youâll have plenty to choose from in the way of high-end boutiques and pioneering gastropubs, all just a stone's throw away on Notting Hill's Westbourne Grove.
Below you will find a few local recommendations you may like to try during your stay.
Restaurants
TaquerĂa (Mexican)
Tacos are, of course, TaquerĂas speciality, served with traditional and modern fillings on soft corn tortillas, using free-range chicken, line-caught fish, organic prawns and our pork and steak always locally farmed.
Sumi (Japanese)
One of Londonâs most loved sushi and Japanese restaurants, SUMI is the little sister to sushi master Endo Kazutoshiâs eponymous Michelin-starred White City restaurant.
Gold (Modern European)
Gold is a neighbourhood restaurant and late night bar in the beating heart of Portobello Road. Gold is informal and honest, with a humble menu focussed on generous, seasonal plates cooked in wood ovens and served to share.
