About Ned Howe
I develop real estate for a living and have 3 children that have been able to experience the true meaning of Chesapeake Life.
Ned Howe purchased this House in 2000
Why Ned Howe chose Taylors Island
Always enjoyed the Chesapeake Bay and all it had to offer and wanted a place to truly embellish my passion. This home hearkens back to a past few understand, as Taylor's Island has remained the same for hundreds of years. The home is not set directly on the water and allows you to view how wildlife exists within the zone of land that is along the water but is not disturbed by man made structures.
What makes this House unique
You can live with nature in unspoiled natural surroundings. Your only neighbors have 4 legs, wings or fins. If you are looking for a secluded location that offers tremendous beauty and access to all that the Chesapeake Bay offers then Taylor's Island is your spot and this fully restored telescoping home that was originally constructed in the 1700's is your sanctuary.

Relaxing spot on the Chesapeake!
Our family of eight thoroughly enjoyed our week at this lovely restored farmhouse on Taylor's Island! Both the indoor accommodations and the beautiful outdoor setting were wonderful. The location provided us with privacy and space to swim, read, kayak, walk, and picnic. We would definitely consider returning to this place for a future vacation getaway!
What a fantastic week we had! I reserved the house for my extended family of 12 including 6 children aged 5 and under hoping for an alternative to crazy Mid- Atlantic beaches. We received more than I had even hoped for. The arrangement of the rooms gave all our families private space while still allowing everyone to feel included. The kitchen had room for multiple cooks and conversation while cooking. The open main floor meant everyone could be together while some ate, some napped, some watched TV, and the kids played. The screened in porch was ideal for grilling, eating crabs and drinking beer, and keeping the kids corralled with games and art. My favorite night was when we watched an amazing electrical storm over the water during a rain storm with the lights out. A breathtaking natural display we still talk about! Each morning, we let the kids out the backdoor to swing, run in the grass, do crafts at the picnic table, and play games. 2 or 3 times a day everyone would make it to the pool for a while- perfect depth for our small swimmers and learners. Some folks brought meals, others took the pleasant drive up to Cambridge for fresh seafood. Running and biking were pleasantly undisturbed by traffic. Every evening, we would march the family out to the bay to watch the sun set over the water. And every night, someone would express how great a selection we had made for our vacation. If you are looking to relax and enjoy time in and out doors with family and friends, particularly little ones who just need to get out and run around in a safe place, Taylors Island is for you. I can not recommend this plantation home more!
Perfect vacation for the whole family!
What a perfect vacation for my entire family! My parents, my siblings and all of our kids got to enjoy incredible weather, a beautiful house and a great location. The layout of the house was perfect for some private time and also had enough big open spaces for every one to enjoy time together breaking crabs and eating as a family. We even organized some olympic games or horse shoes and egg races and sack races since there was plenty of open space outside. The pool was clean and everything inside the house was perfectly maintained and tidy. We even took a day trip to the ocean which isn't far at all. Overall I'd recommend it to friends and family but shhh it's also a well kept secret so we can go back year after year!
Our family of 13 (7 adults and 6 children) traveled from Pittsburgh and spent a week at the rental house. The farmhouse was just as pictured in the descriptions. The pool was wonderful, and a welcome relief from the heat. We were a bit surprised that the water was not closer to the house. It was a good walk, some of it in mud and tall grass. The rooms were beautiful, the kitchen large, and the laundry room and large screened in porch a nice amenity. Every morning, we were greeted with deer and egrets(I think!) out in the fields. Tracy, co-owner with her husband, was extremely helpful and accessible via phone. When my son and his family ran off the road and totaled their car upon leaving, and everyone else was gone, Tracy allowed their family to return to the house until they could get help. The place is very isolated, and a disappointment if you want pizza delivery or a quick trip to the supermarket. If you are looking for solitude, quiet, nature at its finest, and wonderful owners, then this would be a great choice!
What a find!!!!!!!!
When I took on the task of looking for a vacation home, I reviewed several homes, I settled on this location because it was able to accommodate 5 adults and 6 children aging from 2 to 17, with a pool and privacy, I was looking for a place for family, fun and fellowship, what a find. My wife, my cousin, and I all have professions that deal with the public, we all live in the city and so the idea of "getting away" is exactly what we were looking for. The property was more than accommodating, the entrance into the property was spectacular with a path lined with trees, I've seen approaches like this in movies and on computer wallpapers or screensavers, but never in person, the grounds were immaculate, the grass was green and manicured, no concerns of bugs biting your legs if you sat outside in the spacious yard, the pool was clean and maintained, the layout of the interior of the house was fantastic. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated, the kids loved the bedroom that looked over the kitchen, which came supplied with everything you would need for your stay, We had a minor problem with one of the appliances, contacted the owner, and kudos to them, the next day replaced the appliance with a brand new one, what more could you ask for. The livingroom was very comfortable, i fell asleep many times in the chase lounge. Upon our arrival we discovered the cellphone coverage was spotty and there was no Internet service, we were free from the outside world, dont worry the house had a land line for emergencies. I have a 3 year old son who loves to run, watching him run the equivalent of 3 city blocks with no fear of traffic, loose dogs, gunshots or predators, there are no words for that feeling, we also had 4 younger girls with us, they also could go outside, play on the swing, play tag, and hide and seek with the same confidence of no dangers, I can't emphasize how important that was, my kids had never been able to do that. There's a path that leads from the back of the house to a lake that's approximately a 1/4 - 1/2 mile long, that was the path my son would run on, we would gather around the pit at night, roast marshmallows and make s'mores, tell ghosts stories and walk back to the house in total darkness, sometimes using a flashlight, it was great, the kids loved it. We were blessed with great weather, we swam in the pool everyday. If you're looking for serenity, seclusion, and peace of mind while your children play, this is the place for you.
wonderful family home!
I love this house! Our extended family spent an enjoyable week on Taylor's Island in Ned and Tracy's well-equipped, comfortable farmhouse. The cove is great for kayaking and exploring, plus we had a bonfire one evening out on the point. Adults and children enjoyed jumping into the pool to cool off in the July heat, and the hammock strung between two shady trees got a lot of use. Our daughter and son-in-law caught almost a bushel of crabs (we brought a small boat) and steamed them... yummy! I really appreciated the 2 refrigerators since I had 14 people to feed all week. The kitchen was the best equipped of the dozen or so houses we've rented over the years. We came prepared with lots of bug spray since we know what Maryland summers can be like, but we were pleasantly surprised at their scarcity, especially of mosquitoes, although we did have to check for ticks nightly. I loved the blend of old farmhouse atmosphere with all the modern conveniences, and the house was spotless when we came in on Saturday afternoon. All in all, it was a great week!
