About this property

Oceanfront Home - Walk to Everything

Please note that during the summer (June/July/August) we are a SATURDAY to SATURDAY rental.

We are not accepting bookings yet for 2027.

Our home has endless water views, is fully updated, and steps from a sandy beach excellent for swimming ("Inkwell"/Oak Bluffs Town Beach). It was remodeled and redesigned once we bought it, with a simple yet sophisticated Martha's Vineyard-meets-California feel.

Welcoming, centrally-air-conditioned, our house has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 9.

Airy and uncluttered, designed for user-friendly simplicity, with a modern-vintage aesthetic, the house has wide decks, gorgeous views of the sea, and is set back and buffered by a generous lawn -- so you’re still in the Ocean Park/Inkwell Beach area, and can walk to everything the town and harbor area have to offer (restaurants, shops, activities), but with more breathing room.

The home has undergone a top-to-bottom remodel, while honoring the original Gingerbread cottage bones; so you'll find the charm of a traditional but expansive Oak Bluffs "cottage", but with central AC, new windows, doors, appliances and freshly updated bedding and furnishings.

There are wide-plank pine floors, pro-style appliances including dishwasher, gas range, French door refrigerator w/filtered water, and a full-sized washer/dryer set apart in its own laundry/"mud" room -- there's a back entrance here, off the wraparound porch, for easy access to, and from, the enclosed outdoor shower (outdoor shower has hot & cold water, and is in addition to subway tile/glass door indoor shower). There is a king size bed in a larger than usual (for OB) primary/main BR. Ample seating for meals/hanging out at a large dining table, as well as a butcher-block topped island/bar area inside, and dining table and outdoor chairs on the wraparound porch (3-sided). You're perfectly situated for the annual fireworks, dining/coffee/cocktails outside, or just watching the world go by.

There are 4 well appointed, uncluttered bedrooms -- one downstairs and three upstairs (including a large bedroom that shares a space but feels like 2 rooms, with a queen & 2 twins (this is the "Oak Bluffs" room, which is perfect for sharing). The second-story private deck off the primary/main (king bed) bedroom offers views of the ocean, as well as Farm Pond. A second porch, off the second & third upstairs bedrooms, also has ocean views. Two sets of French doors from the kitchen and dining area open out to a larger portion of the deck and stunning ocean views. A third set of French doors opens to another deck along the charming side-street, still with a view to the sea.

The bathrooms are all updated (tiled walk-in shower downstairs, a modern soaking tub upstairs, a separate water-closet on the main floor). Thus, to state it clearly: 1 indoor shower (+sink) downstairs, 1 outdoor shower (the best!) on the wrap-around deck, 1 bathroom with a tub upstairs (no shower, but with a toilet & sink). There is also a water-closet downstairs (toilet & small sink).

There's an open and connected feeling in the kitchen/dining/living room areas, and the 3 sets of downstairs French double-doors connect it all to the porch and the outdoor seating/dining/BBQ area.

The property is in the ideal spot for beach-going, dining out and various outdoor/athletic activities. Cross the road and go for a swim. Walk less than 10 minutes and you have your choice of in-town and harbor-front activities, restaurants & cafes (the short walk means you'll never have to search for a parking space to dine in-town in the high season). We're also walkable from the Oak Bluffs ferry docking (the Steamship Authority OB). And it's a very short distance (5 houses) to the winding and lovely bike path that runs along the island's edge & sands of State Beach and into Edgartown. There is also a great park/playground/tennis, pickleball & basketball courts (Niantic Park) nearby (another short and pleasant walk).

For rainy days and relaxing at home there are two TVs: 1 in the primary/main BR, another in the more casual section of the living room area downstairs.

Beds in total: 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, 1 full sized bed and 2 twin beds.

Please note: you must supply your own linens (sheets/pillow cases, bath towels -- we provide pillows, quilts/comforters, beach towels & beach chairs). There are also linen-supply rental companies on-island.

Rental period during the summer is Saturday to Saturday, though, especially in the shoulder seasons, it may be possible to achieve other check-in/check-out.

Check in time is 4pm, check out time is 10am.

Also, we are on a neighborly, family-friendly, and just generally friendly, street. While our house is further apart from others, it is still nestled within view of others who live or are vacationing nearby. We also own two smaller houses that neighbor the main house. They may be occupied during your stay, or may be available to rent for your group (for a separate rental fee). They are completely independent/separate dwellings. But if you seek total privacy, with nothing but woods all around, this area is probably not the best choice. The towns of Chilmark, West Tisbury and Aquinnah are better for this vibe.

And, although you don't need a car for our area, if you'd like to bring one, you'll need a CAR-FERRY RESERVATIONS (via Steamshipauthority.com). On-island auto rental is also an option.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

About the host

Host profile image
Part-time resident of Martha's Vineyard but longtime lover of the island. You will be too, if you aren't already! We bought the house in 2017 but didn't begin renting it out until well into the summer of 2018. Lovingly remodeled and updated the property. We’ve had wonderful renters!

Why they chose this property

Perfect location. Steps from famed "Inkwell" beach, a short walk from the ferry and into town, ocean views all around, close to all the action but set apart in a quieter location. And space for 3-4 cars to park, a rarity in Oak Bluffs.

What makes this property unique

Vintage/modern charm, the perfect location, a wide (solid and level) wrap-around porch to relax on, generous primary BR with King bed, central AC, incredible access to town and beach and views, views, views!
