About this property
Millbrook - Beautifully Restored 1840 Colonial - Dutchess Co. NY
Comfortable and relaxing, the house is a wonderful place to remove yourself from the world, unwind and reconnect any time of the year be it with your family, friends or a romantic weekend. Set on 16 acres, the house is an authentically restored family farmhouse that even includes all the lighting being handmade authentic reproductions (most are electrified) of those found at colonial villages of Williamsburg, Sturbridge and Deerfield.
A gourmet eat-in kitchen adorned with finely crafted reproduction cabinets, a custom soapstone sink, disguised Subzero Refrigerator along with a Wolf stove and all the equipment to make fabulous meals while taking in the views over the fields to the rolling ridge in the distance. Relax in front of the fireplace in the library with one of the hundreds of volumes. In the living room, sink into the down filled couch and chairs that compliment a large fireplace while taking in the view over the fields and ridge through the almost full wall picture window (not exactly period but we kept it).
The fireplaced master bedroom suite has amazing light with windows on three sides with great views over the fields and a 6 ft long clawfoot bath tub in front of a large window that offers the same. Another bathroom on the second floor has an antique earthenware bathtub that is also placed in front of a window allowing for a relaxing view of the 200 yr. old barn and out over the fields in addition to a steam shower that we attempted to hide. The office on the first floor can be transformed into a toddler play room or into a 6th bedroom especially for a less mobile person with a full bathroom just 5 feet away.
This is a restored colonial farmhouse; not a fancy weekend retreat staged by a NYC/Hamptons decorator attempting to create a Hamptons country feel. It is not a 'rental property', but it is an extremely comfortable country family home created by an owner with a long career at Ralph Lauren where classic creative authenticity is the mantra. We developed a restoration plan through visits to period homes and with the guidance of large collection of Colonial Home books. The project began with the replacement of every electrical wire and pluming pipe, to bathrooms and kitchen, and continues as we decorate with the antiques and artwork that we collect. The original fir floors on the first level and wide pine floors on the second and third levels are adorned by antique oriental rugs. The house evolved around our lives. Purchasing it when our kids were infants and with our enjoyment of entertaining adults, a young children's playroom is tucked in near the kitchen and dining room that has allowed for monitoring the younger generation. The children's space evolved to a 3 additional rooms in the finished basement (an additional 600 sqft not included in the 3200 sqft living space listed) that includes an arts & crafts room, game room with a combination Ping pong/air hockey/pool table and an entertainment room with large television and player piano.
The house is situated within a group of large Sugar Maple and Shaggy Bark Hickory trees on 16 acres of which is cut into a large tract of land totaling a few hundred acres offering privacy. We have about 2-3 acres of lush lawn that includes about a flat 75' x 200' sports field with permanent soccer nets and a volleyball net. A horseshoe court and tetherball pole add to the outdoor sports. Hike through the field and into the woods on trails to the stream. A 20' x 26' bluestone patio with Adirondack chairs is a great place to view the sun setting over the ridge before lighting a roaring fire in the 6ft diameter fire pit encircled with 8 large sitting rocks completing a relaxing dinner on the large table.
Hickory Heath is located just 3 miles from Tymor Park which is nearly 500 acres. It has various recreational facilities such as outdoor pools, tennis courts, playground, pavilions, sports fields, equestrian center, camping areas, a fishing pond, ice rinks in the winter, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and over 12 miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails.
Hickory Heath Farm has personality which our guests cherish.

This welcoming home, filled with antiques, a rich library, a glorious kitchen, appointed with taste, sitting on a great, verdant lawn overlooking wooded hills, set in a fertile nook of Duchess County, was a perfect refuge, offering two weeks of healing and serenity and wonderful memories!
Great choice for traditional home lovers. Plenty of space for families in a lovely, private site. Well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, cozy sofas. Attentive owner. We especially loved our bonfires, playing soccer, BBQs, and game and puzzle nights. Looking forward to staying here again.
Group enjoyed the stay very much. Owner easy to reach and work with.

Really amazing property. Lots of room outside for activities, we’ll equipped inside, and great communication from the owner. We went to a number of the places they suggested visiting during our stay and they were all amazing.

Great fall weekend with the family!
My grandson now refers to this as his “special house!” The house was large, homey and comfortable with everything you could possibly need for a getaway with the family. Great central location as we were about up to 10-30 minutes away from orchards, farms, restaurants, breweries and wineries. Keith was responsive, accommodating and very easy to work with. Would highly recommend!

Amazing farmhouse
We were in town for a family wedding over a long weekend. Our family had a wonderful stay! Our group consisted of adults and children ages 1-8.. and everyone loved the house.
The grounds are naturally gorgeous and well maintained. The house is classic and comfortable— we enjoyed long dinners in the dining room and sitting by the fire every night! The children loved the toys available, and loved the game room in the basement. The beds are plenty and so comfy. The kitchen was a happy place for cooking (fully stocked with cookware and nice appliances) and also hanging out. It felt like a true HOME (instead of the sterile, manufactured rentals out there that no one has actually LIVED in). We loved the historic feeling of the house with modernized amenities.
The owner was easy to communicate with and very helpful throughout the visit.
Overall, I highly recommend staying here! Best VRBO experience ever.

Film location perfection!
We reached out to Keith to use his home for a location for a film we were shooting. It was endlessly beautiful, and suited our shoot in every way. Keith was generous and accommodating to the specific needs of our production--we could not have asked for a better host or home. I would return to film there again or just for a relaxing visit in a beautiful area. 10/10 Recommend!

Wonderful, memorable weekend
We just returned from a really lovely weekend in the Hudson Valley. The house was of course the centerpiece and was even nicer than described. While possessing all the rustic charm of a local farmhouse, it also had all the modern amenities and creature comforts one could want. The (numerous) bedrooms were all very comfortable, kitchen well stocked, wifi strong, bathrooms clean, towels fluffy and even a fire ready to go in the fireplace. Keith (owner) is extremely gracious and saw to it that every facet of the stay was tended to. We’d go back with pleasure and recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful stay in a beautiful part of the world.
