Why Gary & Barbara Stephens, HI Tax ID TA-123-262-5664-01 chose Coconut Coast

Kapaa is centrally located with a 40 minute drive north to the end of the road, and another 40-minute drive to Poipu area or an hour's drive to the West end of the road at Polihale.

What makes this condo unique

Quiet, quiet, quiet. The sound of the surf and the trade winds rustling through the palm trees instantly soothes jangled nerves, and puts us in a state of wonderful relaxation.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

Ideal location in Kapaa. Unit was clean, well equipped and had a nice view of ocean. The elevator was very useful for taking luggage to and from unit and when using the laundry facilities on the ground level. The shops, restaurants, and coffee shops were within easy walking distance. A long shoreline walking/biking trail is just out the door.

Ideal location

  • 5 of 5

Diane and I enjoyed being return guests in D308. It is a great combination of location and price. I especially like having only a short walk to Kapaa. Breakfast at Ono Ono and maybe a shave ice later. Other good restaurants are close. I find that if you have a "Hawaii Revealed" book it is best to have a recent one because restaurants come and go. Site seeing remains the same and we hit them all both North and South.

As a frustrated Ukulele player, the Komora uke store is close and on Tuesday mornings I spent an hour at the Kapaa rec center (within walking distance) in a uke class with Ernie. Great fun. Being Lutheran we enjoy going to Lihue Lutheran (only Luth. church on the island). Both Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday as well as aThursday morning making PB and J sandwiches (400) for the Boys and Girls clubs.

The unit has everything needed for a nice stay. Good CD player so I went across the street to the Thrift store for some additions (cheap). We also sampled the TV with the old movie selections. The instructions on usage in the owner manual helped. Might remind tenants that the CD player holds five. The upgraded kitchen adds a lot.

Pono Kai itself is very inviting. Besides the pool and exercise room, the Herb garden (with samples) and the miniature golf course at ocean side were nice touches. Make sure you go to the welcome breakfast. We did and won a half priced airplane flight over the island. A painless way to see Na Pali. We also used the seaside path for our morning walk.

P.S. to Gary - thanks for working out an additional nights stay.

Good bang for the buck

  • 4 of 5

Loved being top floor corner unit with the side window and no one walking over us. This provided lots of light and extended beach and water views. Sound does travel between floors a little so being on top was the best. Grounds and location is beautiful. You can't really hear the waves at night from the back bedroom, but you can get that experience from a surprisingly comfortable sofa bed in the living room. Road noise is minimal in the back bedroom, the most noise you will hear is from the roosters which is fairly constant throughout the night (seems they just don't crow at sunrise) but you will probably get this no matter where you stay on the island as they are literally everywhere.

Gary was very easy to deal with and instructions and check in was smooth as can be. The condo is a little dated but is very functional, comfortable and clean. The beach out front is swimmable but we spent most of our time at Hanalei Bay bodyboarding and exploring the north. We did Wailea Canyon on a clear day and highly recommend that.

Condo was well stocked with kitchen gadgets and beach stuff. All and all it was good value and we hope to be back soon!

Another great visit!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned home from another great visit to this lovely condo. As mentioned by other guests, Pono Kai is in a very good location with downtown Kapa'a on one side and the oceanfront on the other. Shopping and restaurants are very close by and parking is plentiful. There are lots of activities available right at the resort including the pool, tennis courts, croquet, horseshoes, etc. The beach is right across from the condo as is the walking/biking path that goes for miles along the water. The condo itself is very well maintained with a VERY comfortable bed, lots of linens and towels, lots of beach equipment, coolers and chairs, and very well kitted out kitchen for those nights you decide to eat in (the BBQ's are conveniently located around the property and pristine). The unit is top floor, end unit in the end building so great views from the lanai. All in all, we highly recommend D308 and are already planning our 4th trip. Mahalo, Gary and Barbara!

Beach front access and view with many amenities at your fingertips

  • 5 of 5

The Pono Kai resort is very easy to find along the main route on the east side of Kauai. Accessing the unit was simple with a code we'd received from Gary well before our arrival.

This top floor corner unit faces and overlooks a manicured lawn, the ocean, sandy swim beach and a paved biking/walking path (which goes for miles north of Kapa'a). Good views of all. Enjoyed sitting on the porch with the morning sun and watching all the people passing by on the path. The condo is well stocked with a full kitchen and beach equipment (chairs, laying mats, swimming fins, beach towels). You can rent more activity gear in the main office area and bicycle rental is right across the street. A supermarket is about half a mile away.

Gary was very accessible, responding quickly by email to a question I had about checkout protocol. He even called the day of our arrival to make sure everything was in order and seeing if we had questions. Weeks before your arrival he sends a packet of information about points of interest/activities in the area and specific information about the unit.

I recommend staying here, we certainly will again.
