About the property

Premier Corner Suite: A Haven of Beauty, Comfort & Tranquility in Waikiki

Aloha and Welcome to my Diamond Banyan vacation suite in the popular Waikiki Banyan condominium hotel, just one block from beautiful Waikiki Beach.

My Diamond Banyan is a 600 sq. ft. corner apartment with exceptional views from all rooms and the lanai of dramatic Diamond Head and of the interior mountains and valleys, with their ever-changing cloud formations and frequent rainbows.

I Michael Sisk, the owner, am a full-time resident of Hawaii for 25 years, residing on the Big Island. I personally manage my condo in order to ensure that guests who stay will find it to be a 'perfect match' for their wants and needs. To do this I prefer whenever possible to speak by phone with potential guests so that we can become better acquainted and all questions can be answered to our mutual satisfaction. The success of this personalized approach is reflected by the unanimously positive reviews left by past guests on this VRBO listing; and also by the many guests who return to stay year after year.

Since its purchase in 2007 I have been upgrading and refurnishing the apartment to meet my own high standards: for my own frequent use when I need an urban respite from my very rural life on the Big Island; and with its future use as my retirement residence in mind. Rest assured that no expense has been spared in the meticulous and luxurious upgrades, including high-end designer leather furniture, original artwork throughout, and an overall eye for detail that reflects my lifelong interest in color and interior design.

The result is an exceptionally beautiful, comfortable and tranquil place to call 'home' during your vacation in Waikiki.

My suite is also more spacious than most at the Waikiki Banyan, for it is 1 of only 2 of the 14 units per floor with the additional sq. footage allowing for both a full kitchen that is totally out-of-view of the rest of the apartment; and a dedicated dining area with table and seating for four.

The kitchen was completely remodeled in 2013 and features all new stainless steel appliances; wood cabinetry with plentiful storage and pantry space; superior dish-, glass- and cookware; granite countertops and back splashes; and a functional and esthetic design that allows for the stove to be adjacent to the kitchen window: so you may enjoy the stunning view of Diamond Head while preparing meals.

Stainless steel appliances include a French door refrigerator with bottom freezer and automatic ice maker; a stove with convection oven and flat top with 4 burners; and a microwave above the stove with 4-speed venting. Smaller appliances include a coffee maker and grinder, blender, toaster and toaster oven.

My attention to efficient design in order to maximize utility and storage space in the kitchen makes my apartment especially attractive and appealing to guests interested in extended stays, many who prefer frequently cooking and 'dining in.' Frequent guest stays are for 3-7 weeks, with many of these guests returning year after year.

Comfortable furniture in the living room includes a 6-foot Italian leather sofa, a love-seat style twin-size sofa bed and a reclining leather lounge chair. The entertainment center provides wide screen High Definition TV,

a DVD player and a Roku Player for accessing free Netflix and other cable channels.

There is both free high speed wifi and free long distance calling to all islands, all mainland states, Canada and all US Territories.

The entire north-facing side of the living room is floor-to-ceiling glass framing gorgeous views of the interior mountains and Manoa and Pololu Valleys. Custom draperies provide privacy and shade when desired including room darkening shades in the bedroom.

The sliding door opens to the lanai outfitted with a table and chairs for enjoying drinks and light dining, reading a book, or just relaxing and taking in the gorgeous views that include frequent rainbows.

A quiet and efficient window AC unit makes air-conditioning an option. However the cross ventilation resulting from the apartment's corner location and the enhanced air circulation provided by the recently installed ceiling fans in both the living room and bedroom ( not found in most units at the Banyan) ensure your comfort year-round, even without air conditioning most days.

The bedroom adjacent to the living room may be separated from it for privacy by sliding doors. it is tastefully outfitted with custom window shades and room-darkening draperies, ample lighting and hardwood maple furniture.

The bedroom has a queen size bed with new mattress, large 6-drawer dresser and nightstands and both wall and ceiling mounted fans.

The bedroom opens to a large, well-lit vanity area that was remodeled with all new maple cabinetry, a granite counter top and designer lighting. A tall maple cabinet is well-stocked with high-end linens, bath, hand and beach towels, blankets, extra pillows, and complimentary laundry supplies.

This vanity is separated from the toilet and tub/shower by a privacy pocket door. Also recently upgraded, the shower has a safety bar on both the wall and tub, and the toilet features a bidet/washlet seat for added comfort and hygiene.

A coin operated laundry room is just steps away, diagonally across the hall from the front door.

An enclosed stairwell is on the other side of this corner suite, so there is no condo to either side of mine. This results in an exceptionally quiet suite with a quiet and very private lanai.

The recreation deck on the 6th floor provides a large heated swimming pool, sauna, hot tubs, barbeques with adjacent tables for dining, a putting green, tennis court and snack bar. There is also a convenience store and an internet cafe on the lobby level.

Beautiful Kuhio Beach (the east end of Waikiki Beach) is just one block away. This beach provides easy entry into the water and features a long surf-break wall that creates a protected swimming area of calm water--perfect for lap swimming and for those less familiar with the water.

The beach is an excellent place to watch surfers ride the waves, for long sunset walks, and, some weekend nights, for Movies on the Beach.

My luxurious apartment at the Waikiki Banyan is an easy stroll to all Waikiki attractions including beautiful Kapiolani Park, the Honolulu Zoo and Aquarium, the International Marketplace and the resorts and attractions along famous Kalakaua Avenue--the 'Rodeo Drive' of Honolulu. Churches, a supermarket, and shops and restaurants from budget to high-end are all nearby and easily reached on foot or by trolley or bus.

Waikiki offers endless activities for all interests and walks of life, including beachcombing, water sports, golfing, shopping and exceptional fine dining.

So come pamper yourselves with a luxurious stay in my Diamond Banyan apartment in Waikiki-- where it is summertime all year long!

About Michael Sisk

Aloha! My name is Michael and I live most of the time on the Kona Coast of Hawaii's Big Island, where I have a Kona coffee and white pineapple farm. Also on this property is my Tara Cottage, another superb vacation destination (VRBO #37172).

I was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, moving to California following college. I lived and worked for many years in San Francisco as an audiologist before moving to the island of Kauai in 1991. There I hosted a B&B for 3 years, moving to the Big Island in 1994. I then hosted another B&B at beautiful Kealakekua Bay in South Kona for another 3 years while developing my coffee farm upslope at the 1000 ft elevation-- where I live today.

Michael Sisk purchased this condo in 2007

Why Michael Sisk chose Waikiki

I love my rural live on the Big Island! However after more than 15 years living in Hawaii, I found it becoming both too time consuming and too expensive to continue my 2-3 visits per year to mainland cities for my necessary 'urban fixes.' Yes, 'island fever' is a realty for most of us transplants from the mainland! So I decided to focus on Honolulu as my urban escape, and this led to the purchase of my apartment at the Waikiki Banyan condo hotel in June of 2007. Though occasional trips to the mainland are still necessary and enjoyable, I can now frequently visit Honolulu and enjoy my apartment and its superb location-- whenever it is not serving as a beautiful vacation destination for my guests, that is! As an avid swimmer I love my apartment's proximity to the beach--just two blocks away. And for long and beautiful walks, nearby Kapiolani Park is another bonus. Also given my dependence on an automobile on the Big island, my ability to get around in Honolulu completely by foot or bus is a refreshing and increasingly economical change of pace!

What makes this condo unique

I am a die-hard movie buff. And following so many years enjoying the cinematic benefits of first Washington, D.C. and then San Francisco, I found the lack of cinema on both Kauai and the Big Island to be quite the disappointment-- to say the least (thank God for Netflix)! In Honolulu I never miss the Hawaii International Film Festival in October and their Spring Festival in April. And I also travel to Maui each summer for the Maui Film Festival--with their wonderful open-air Celestial Cinemas! When festivals are not around I still have opportunities to see independent and foreign film(my favorites) in the movie houses in Honolulu. And let's not forget Movies on the Beach during many weekends in Waikiki.

And did I mention that I am an avid swimmer and also appreciate live theater and musical events? Honolulu excels in these areas as well.

My condo and the one across the hall are the only 2 of the 14 per floor with the additional sq. footage that allows for an out-of-sight kitchen and a dedicated dining area. And as a corner unit with Diamond Head on one side and the stair well on the other side, there is no condo to either side of mine--assuring privacy and quiet both inside and on the outside lanai. The corner location also results in excellent cross ventilation. And ceiling fans were recently installed in both the living room and bedroom to assure even better air circulation (ceiling fans are not commonly found in units at the Waikiki Banyan). In the bathroom there is a washlet/bidet toilet seat for added comfort and hygiene.

We had a truly wonderful stay at the Waikiki Banyan. Thanks to Michael's and Stephanie's attention to detail, starting from the Welcome-Basket, to the well stocked cabinets, all the way to the beach equipment there was nothing else we could have asked for. The view is breathtaking. The location was perfect for us, on the less busy side of Waikiki beach. The parking permit was very convenient (there are several grocery stores nearby). We didn't even have time to check out the pool area of the Waikiki Banyan there was so much to see and to do on the island. We very much enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come back for the next PacifiChem conference in 5 years. Mahalo!

Great home base, very comfortable and well equipped, spectacular mountain views

  • 4 of 5

We arrived late evening and were greeted with a spectacular night sky view out the panoramic windows facing the Ala Wai Canal and mountains when we walked in the door. It was a wow moment. The welcome basket on the kitchen counter was full of goodies and enjoyed throughout our stay. There was even fresh flowers to brighten the room. This unit was very well equipped with lots of bath towels, beach towels, even soap, shampoo, garbage bags, beach chairs, the coveted Tommy Bahama beach umbrellas, shopping bags, a drying rack for your damp swimsuits, and more. Laundry room and garbage shoot is conveniently located across the hall. There is a TV with Netflix but we didn't turn it on even once, spending most of our time on the beach and exploring. Knowing ahead of time that the couch was not a sleeper sofa, we opted to bring a compact camping air mattress for our teenager to sleep on and that worked great. We prepared all our meals in the kitchen and enjoyed having all the utensils, pots and spices available to us that we needed. It is a compact space but has all you need. Viewing Diamond Head out the kitchen window is a nice perk. It is a quiet unit being a corner, however, for a few days we had very noisy overhead neighbors, lots of thuds, banging and voices. Location of the Waikiki Banyan is great - only about a 5 - 8 minute walk directly to Waikiki beach. Within walking distance to lots of shopping, several ABC Stores, the Honolulu Zoo, etc. There is a parking pass provided in case you rent a car, however, we chose to use the public transit which was available just a block away. We took The Bus ($2.50 pp) to many different beaches along Waikiki as well as all the way to Hanauma Bay (one hour), Pearl Harbour (one hour 15 minutes), a farmer's market, and to the trail head for Diamond Head. We enjoyed staying in this beautifully decorated unit to celebrate Christmas in Oahu.

Owner's Response: It was with great pleasure that I hosted this Canadian family as guests over the Christmas holidays. They were courteous and pleasant to work with and very respectful of my apartment, leaving it in excellent condition upon their departure following their 11-night stay. I read their excellent review and was so pleased by their mention and appreciation of my condo's many features: its magical views; the flowers and Welcome Basket awaiting their arrival; how well-supplied they found my condo for cooking and dining; its beautiful interior design and its excellent location. I sincerely hope that they will visit again! I was sorry to read that they experienced a few days bothered by noise from the rental unit above. This is a rare complaint but one that I do address in the Apartment Guide that I send out to all guests prior to their arrival; and that is also in my Guest Guide binder in my apartment. In the section on important Contact Numbers I highlight SECURITY and advise guests to: "Please call security immediately to report any suspicious or strange activity or any concerns/complaints you have about noise from adjacent units, etc." In my own experience during my frequent stays in my condo, when I have had a noise issue with the unit above (fortunately as a corner unit with a stairwell on the other side I have no condo to either side of mine), I have notified Security and they have always responded immediately and my noise complaints have been promptly resolved. I only wish that these guests had called me or my condo assistant Stephanie (who lives very near the Waikiki Banyan) to report this issue, for we would have immediately notified Security and I have no doubt that this issue would have been resolved to their satisfaction. Mahalo again for your excellent review!

It really is a Diamond at the Banyan

  • 5 of 5

Clean, comfortable and completely equipped. (Lots of owners and property managers in Honolulu say that their units are fully equipped. They mostly aren't, though, in my experience.) Michael and his in-town assistant Stephanie have given thought and attention to every detail in this condo, and it shows. A wonderful unit in a great location: Highly recommended!

My husband and I had the privilege of staying in Michael's condo for a month. Stephanie and Michael could not have made our stay anymore comfortable or special. It was truly our best stay in Hawaii ever ♡.On our arrival we were welcomed with Island fresh pineapple nuts and a beautiful display of flowers.Everything we needed wss right there including coffee beans and a grinder which impressed me being a coffee lover. The condo is immaculate with generous fluffy towells and a bed that was more comfortable than ours at home and compfy pillows!. I slept like a log every night :-) I loved the ambience of the condo and the views day and night are just exhilarating. So many rainbows. The furniture is so comfortable and a delight to come home and sit in comfort after a big day of fun.Stephanie was just lovley and mid visit cleaned our condo and left more flowers which she knew I loved. I am so impressed with the high standard of accomodation Michael and Stephanie our stay was so comfortable and memorable for my husbands 60 th Birthday. Thank you so much there really isn't a single thing you could do to improve paradise. We plan to vome back again. Mahalo

Dear Michael, We tried to think of something more you could do or get for your guests but nothing came to mind! Your condo has everything any reasonable guest could want. From your welcome food basket and guide binder to beach towels, chairs and cooler, your attention to detail is exemplary. Thanks very much for helping to make our stay in Hawaii a pleasant experience. Because we rented a car (following your suggestion), we took your three recommended tours and added a few of our own. In short, we toured the whole of Oahu from the comfortable, well located home base of your luxury condo. Mahalo, Pam and Glen

My Diamond Banyan apartment at the Waikiki Banyan condo hotel is an easy stroll to all Waikiki attractions: 1-2 blocks from both Kuhio Beach and Queen's Beach (the 2 most easterly of the beaches that make up 'Waikiki Beach'); 3 blocks from the Honolulu Zoo and the entrance to beautiful Kapiolani Park; and one block to famous Kalakaua Avenue, the 'Rodeo Drive' of Honolulu.

A stroll west along Kalakaua Ave. will take you past the two of the most famous and historic of all Waikiki resort hotels: the Moana Hotel, the 'First Lady of Waikiki' that opened its doors to the public in 1901; and the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, the 'Pink Palace of the Pacific' that opened its doors in 1927. Enjoy the shops and restaurants at these two flagship resorts, and then continue your stroll west past the multitude of designer shops and fine restaurants for which Kalakaua Ave. is so well known.

You will also pass the entrance to the famous International Marketplace--just 5 blocks from my Diamond Banyan apartment and popular as the most affordable place to shop and bargain for almost anything you can imagine. The maze of shops and stalls in the Marketplace are fun places to shop for gifts for yourself and to take home for family and friends.

Churches, supermarkets, and budget to moderately priced shops and restaurants may be found along both Prince Kuhio Ave.-- one block parallel to Kalakaua Ave. and a cross street of the Waikiki Banyan; and Kapahulu Ave. 3 blocks to the east of the Banyan. Both areas may easily be reached on foot or by trolley or bus if you prefer.

Trolley and bus stops are within one block of my apartment and provide frequent and affordable transportation to other, more distant island attractions: the Ala Moana Shopping Center, Ward Center and Movie Complex, the Academy of Fine Arts, the excellent Bishop Museum, beautiful Iolani Palace, Chinatown, Pearl Harbor---just to name a few!
