Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

HIghbrook has many new upgrades this year ... new siding, front and interior doors, 3 new windows, shades, bath enclosure, ceiling fans.. most importantly we put in a new heating system on the first floor that also provide air conditioning.

If you have never been to Bar Harbor before and even if you have, I am sure you would want to be in a great location. Highbrook has it all!! Do you want to go into the village? No problem, you can walk because it's a short stroll of 10 to 15 minutes - OR - you can stand at the end of my driveway and the Island Explorer will pick you up - OR - you can drive. But don't get too comfortable because it's only 30 seconds away.

I am sure one of the reasons you want to visit is because of Acadia National Park. Can't get much better because the very popular Cadillac Mountain, Duck Brook and Eagle Lake entrances are right around the corner. About 10 seconds away. Even though you are very close to all of the key locations, Highbrook rests on almost an acre of land and is very peaceful and serene.

After a great day in the park, relax and enjoy a barbecue on the back deck or sip a lemonade on the patio. No one will see you. It's a great area for children because it's a residential area with only the locals using Highbrook road.

For your dining and entertaining all dishes, flatware, glasses, bowls, platters, pots and pans, cooking utensils, linens, towels are provided for your convenience. The house has everything you will need to cook up a storm.

Need to check e-mail from the office? Highbrook has WIFI for your laptop.

Highbrook features a Master Suite on the first floor that has a large and comfortable sitting besides a bay window with a view out to the very wooded 1/2 acre lot. The second floor features 3 additional bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. The back bedroom is expansive a comfortable with 5 windows, 2 sitting areas and a pull out sofa bed. A very comfortable and bright, cheery room.

The middle bedroom features a brand new bunk bed with a side staircase for easy access and a telvision. The front bedroom features 2 twin beds and is surrounded by windows and nature.

We hope that you select Highbrook House and enjoy our house as much as we do. Check our availability and then please call or e-mail. Whether calling or e-mailing you will hear back from me the same day.

Also check our website which has a link on this site and you will see additional information. We look forward to having your family stay with us this year and again and again and again.......

About Barbara

If your like me you hate talking about yourself. Do I talk about my profession? Bar harbor? Sports? Well I guess I should stick to the topic of why I am here. I've discovered that I enjoy vacation rentals and Bar Harbor. In my career I am in health care (yes the dreaded words today) and this other side of my life becoming involved in this industry is so different than my current profession but I enjoy talking to everyone who calls or e-mails me. Most of all I enjoy talking to you about Bar Harbor. I have hiked every trail, biked every road and enjoyed the area in spring, summer, fall and even winter. The beauty of the area never ceases to amaze me which is why I keep coming back.

Barbara purchased this house in 1998

Why Barbara chose Bar Harbor

I love Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It's a special place where the park meets the ocean and the scenary is spectacular. I came to this area 25 years ago for vacation and decided that I wanted to retire here and enjoy the present and the future. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to do just that. Everytime I come up here I come back a new person. But it gets harder and harder to leave. Someday my ship will come in and I will be here forever.

What makes this house unique

My first rental in Bar Harbor was at a house just around the corner from where Highbrook is located. When the house went up for sale I tried to buy it because I loved the location. Lucky for me that I was able to purchase Highbrook. The house is in a perfect location because I can walk into town, take the Island Explorer from my driveway, I'm around the corner from Eagle Lake, Cadillac Mountain and the Duck Brook entrances to the park, but yet I'm resting on almost an acre of land. I also wanted a house that had everything in it... my home away from home. Houses that I used to rent didn't have microwaves or even can openers... sometimes it's the little things that make one comfortable. That was a promise when I bought my house that it would have everything a family needs to enjoy their stay...... and the tradition continues today.

Return Renter

  • 5 of 5

My family has stayed at this Bar Harbor property three times and love it’s convenient location to downtown Bar Harbor (where we can walk to) and an entrance to Acadia National Park which is around the corner. It’s also nice that the shuttle bus will stop and pick you up at the corner and take you to any stop on its route so a car isn’t really required. The owner has re-sided the whole house and added a heating-air conditioning system since we were last here and she’s always been responsive to our comfort and questions we may have. We’ll definitely book again for next year.

Owner's Response: Thank you and we look forward to having your family return and stay with us again. We used to stay around the corner from Highbrook when we were renting and thought the location was just terrific and couldn't pass up the chance to own a home in that area.

Clean, spacious...perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We (me and my 3 friends) stayed here for 4 days of hiking trip in Acadia NP. The location of the house is perfect whether you want to enjoy Acadia NP or the Bar Harbor town (which is just beautiful!). The house itself is very well kept with all the amenities and utensils, towels, sheets, etc. you may need. [Perhaps the only thing we missed was some packets of coffee and/or tea]. Just the kind of house where you can enjoy while indoors.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the feedback.. we try to make our home the best we can for all of our wonderful visitors to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.. we make it a HOME and NOT a rental and I think that is the difference.. We are already working on plans for next year. So glad everyone had a good time.... think of us when you return to the area.

Very comfortable close to everything

  • 4 of 5

This was our first trip to the area and we wanted something close to the park and downtown, but didn't want to stay in town. this home seemed to answer all of our needs. We weren't sure about the location and access to the park other than what we read so we called the owner. She answered all of our questions and sent us additional photos of the park, downtown area with suggestions on where to go and what to do... also told us to make sure we eat the popovers at Jordan Pond house, which we loved! All in all the family had a great time. The house was clean and very comfortable.. one day we did catch the free bus that picked us up at the end of the driveway. We took that right into the park. The weather was mild and cooler at nite so bring your jackets.. We are trying to go back every few years as there is just to much to do and see.

Nice property, rude owner

  • 2 of 5

Although the property was in a good location and nice to stay at, there were issues with the owner that I recommend not renting from her. She did not send the correct information prior to our stay, on check in information such as how to get a key. She never checked what she sent in the email, but kept sending the same one with the wrong attachments and ever apologized. Her other email communications were also quite rude.

We were charged for breaking a window blind cord that was broken when we got there, and upon arrival, there was a note on the door stating a repair person was going to come to repair the bind (they did not come while we were there). They claimed it was fixed and we were charged $100 for it (based on an invoice for before we were there).

Issues with the actual house, there was mold in the master bathroom; they had an issue with ants there also as there were several dead and live ants present. The upstairs bathtub drain was clogged.

Owner's Response: I want to say thank you for all of the wonderful tenants and return tenants that come back year after year at Highbrook House. Most tenants are wonderful and really take care of the home they rented. It is when tenants cause damage, and they know it, then they decide that they will create whatever falsehoods they can to go after the homeowner. Let me start with the package I send out to my tenants. When final payment is received the tenant is email all of the check-in and check-out information weeks prior to their arrival. The email for Highbrook is created each year and rests in a folder so all I have to do it forward it to every tenant. this tenant received the same details as everyone else. I own a business and I would never send out anything offensive to anyone. If there was something to communicate, I am old school, I would pick up the telephone and have a conversation. The only emails sent to her were thanking them for selecting the home, payment verification and check-in information. I enjoy my tenants who often ask me for details about the park, restaurants, etc. All of my calls and emails from tenants are returned promptly. The tenants prior to this group had broken the cord on my window shade and like any other situation that might occur, I had my cleaner leave a note that the repair person would be there today. As it turns out, the window company arrived around 2:30Pm (before the tenant came) and made the repair. When they checked out, my cleaner called and said that they broke the window shade. I sent them an email about the damage and they stated that was like that when they arrived. I told them it was fixed prior to their arriving. I called my window company who also verified that they made the repair prior to their coming, so obviously they did break it. I emailed them the letter, with the time the window company came, that they put in writing and the $75 repair bill. It was just fixed, and they broke it, they would be responsible for the damage. Since my home went through residing and window replacement, I had the bathroom repainted the first week of May AND was there prior to the first tenant . If there was any mold in the home, (highly allergic) it would have been taken care of immediately. At the same time every year, Orkin sprays outside the home to prevent unwanted visitors. I usually have wonderful tenants that I enjoy immensely. Sometimes you don't. This was one of them.
