Review #2272615 Charming Casa
JUST ONE OF 17 5-STAR REVIEWS: please read the others as well!
My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at Casa Carmen. The place was so charming and interesting since the owner has many of his pieces of art work in the casa.....very clean with wonderful smells and magical lamps. The hosts were so very gracious and welcoming to us and to our dogs. We loved the art studio, the beautiful yard and the walking trail. They have many little sitting areas and unexpected surprises to discover. The upper decks were perfect for watching the sunset with a glass of wine. This was truly a place of enchantment. We would recommend this place to any couple or girls get away.
Skiing, Bicycling, Hiking,Rafting, Ballooning, Fishing, Fine Restaurants, Art Galleries and Museums less than 10 minutes away. Dark skies and millions of stars keep you company at night!

Casa Carmen may be best described as the Sunrise and the Sunset House. You are bathed continually with our immense New Mexico sun and artist's light. The 360 degree views are stunning, inspirational, beckoning to mind and spirit. A wonderful feature of the home is the incredible interior and exterior lighting. For the property, a DVD has been produced.
The home was built by the owners of adobe and hand-hewn logs. It is a stunning two level guest house of 1200 square feet. An interior spiral stair case connects the levels. There is also a wide exterior stair.
The second level is designed as a parlor for conversation, sleeping, entertainment area, also with a table that seats four. There are two fantastic decks: The sunrise deck and the sunset deck. The first level consists of wonderful sunroom, a bedroom, the country kitchen, the living room with dining area, and a full bath. The first level has south and east facing portals (covered porches) with comfortable outdoor seating.
A new hot tub is yours to enjoy outdoors in sun or starlight. The views are wonderful from its location!
Located in a grove of Aspens and Evergreens and surrounded by 150 acres of private land, raised flower beds and flagstone paths wander through the trees and expansive yard.

The grounds and gardens have been designed by Carmen Woodall. Many outdoor delights await you with inviting comfort for your leisure. The outdoor lounging areas also have chimineas and a brazier for evening fires beneath the star-filled New Mexico night skies. Out here, there exists no light, noise, or visual pollution.

Pat or Carmen Woodall purchased this chalet in 1983
We built it To Be Natural and Within the Grove of Trees and Gardens! It was built by Pat Woodall over the course of five years with attention to every detail! Mortice, notch and tendon construction of joinery with exposed Douglas Fir Beams, sided Spruce logs and passive solar thermopane Windows on all sides make the views spectacular in all directions. Solar curtains on every window and skylight make it warm and cozy and tie in to the decor. The decor is very special. White Duve covers on each bed, flannel sheets in the winter over dual control heating mattress covers make getting out of bed a little tough but when you do, oh my!
Vibrant paintings adorn the walls between the windows and a 3'x5' simulated fireplace with heated blower is located on the wall upstairs in the large parlor bedroom with a Queen Bed and Single Bed. The heat on the ground floor is hot water radiant heat under character grade Hickory floors in the living room and kitchen coupled with heated marble tile in the bedroom and full bath. My two old college buddies and I spent 3 days at the Casa Carmen to catch up and spend time together! What a wonderful time we had being hosted by the Woodalls! Beautiful place, comfortable, charming and so unique that we were delighted when first we say it! We had a tour of all the grounds and the Casa and could only marvel at how fabulous it was... we enjoyed it so much and on the morning we left the French Toast and country ham was the Best! When you take your vacation put this one on the top of the list.
We've stayed at the Casa Carmen during other seasons and fall this year was wonderful. The leaves were changing, the crispness of fall was in the air, amazing art in the home by Pat and in town, the festivals and the home & hosts were perfect. Pat & Carmen are wonderful hosts and always have the home with everything you'll need to enjoy and relax. I love that we can bring our two dogs and they love the walks and the fenced in backyard is very appreciated. During our stay it was cool in the evenings so the wall fireplace upstairs was just what was needed to knock the chill out of the room. The sunrises and sunsets from the decks are spectacular. Close enough to everything but far enough away to enjoy the tranquility that the Arroyo Seco area offers.
My wife and I and my parents stayed for three nights over Presidents Day Weekend and greatly enjoyed our stay. We learned that Pat built the home by hand many years ago which adds to the wonderfully fun character of the entire property. The location was ideal for us with Taos Ski Valley located about 15 minutes from the front door and Taos Village located about 10 to 15 minutes the other direction. The Hot Tub under the stars was very relaxing after skiing all day and Carmen is a great chef who left us some delicious snacks and treats to enjoy daily. We will most definitely return.
P.S. Pat Woodall is a well known local artist with a showroom in downtown Taos full of great art to take a look at. Ask anyone around town if they know Pat and the answer is almost always yes. Great folks.
My husband and I needed a relaxing vacation and I wanted snow, Casa Carmen offered everything we needed and more. We didn't feel like we were in a rental, instead it felt like home. Everything was decorated inside and outside beautifully, snow on the ground along with decorations and lights and a Christmas tree set up in the living area. The bed was very comfortable and the views were outstanding while outside. We went to the Pueblo for Christmas Eve and then to the ski valley for New Years Eve fireworks., great memories that will last a lifetime. There were plenty of walking areas to take the pups for walks and a fenced area to let them go snoop around. Carmen & Pat have thought of everything that anyone would need in the home, including having snacks and drinks waiting for us when we arrived. Thanks for sharing such a warm and wonderful home that is a piece of art, filled with art by Pat and special touches by Carmen along with greetings from Artemis. We're already planning our next trip out and looking forward to staying at Casa Carmen again!!
We were looking for a fourth of July escape and Casa Carmen was perfect. The house had every amenity we needed. The hosts made us feel welcome from the first-greeting us with a cold supper after our long drive. The grounds are full of relaxing areas and fun art. The house is decorated with New Mexico art and furnishings. Beds are very
It's an ideal locale for visiting the Taos area. The fourth of July fireworks could be viewed from one of two decks. Fabulous views of the mountains and easy access to
Arroyo Seco. We enjoyed avocado margaritas and learned some great New Mexico
recipes. Artemis is a wonderful dog ambassador. We hope for a return visit!
I was in need of a place to unwind with my family. This is an excellent setting to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Two second story porches give wonderful scenes. One for coffee and a sunrise. One with New Mexican wine and a sunset. Both porches are wired with sound. The Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, warm bedrooms and full of original artworks. Morning walks thru a nature area can be enjoyed, short or long, not on the main road. If you want to cook, fresh herbs can be picked around the house. Minutes from a small village with a restaurant, ice cream and a limited grocery store. 15 minutes to Taos or ski valley. Side note: My teenagers never got bored.
The owners make you feel welcome and at home. Their suggestions and advice on the local area and restaurants was spot on. An avocado margarita may find its way to you front door!
The property is very comfortable with spectacular views of mountains and mesas at both sunrise and sunset. The down bedding, radiant floor heat and passive solar made even the coldest outside temps (0-10 degrees F) something to come in from and forgotten. Additionally, Carmen and Pat are wonderful ambassadors to Northern New Mexico. They are welcoming and gracious hosts who are willing to share their local knowledge of outdoor activities (hiking, skiing, hot springs,...), restaurants, art galleries and holiday events. The Christmas Eve at Taos Pueblo is a lifetime family memory. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to visit again!
Arroyo Seco is the most varied and interesting place in and around Taos for these activities...Hiking, Biking, Skiing, Rafting, Spelunking, Fishing, Back Country and Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing!!!
