Secluded and serene

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at Serenity Ridge for almost two weeks. The inside of the house was very clean and well stocked. Our Michigan family came to visit and we had plenty of room for everyone. The outdoor area provided plenty of space for BBQ's and camp fires. We could easily walk to the park to enjoy beautiful sunsets over Lake Michigan, or picnic, but the beach has eroded so much and most of it is marked private that we were not able to use it much. The exterior of the house needs a lot maintenance. The windows were very dirty, the gutters full, spiders webs were everywhere. We had to clean everything outside before we could use it. The sliding glass door was extremely difficult to open and close and the screened in porch was unusable in it's condition. The grill was left dirty and one tank of propane was empty. There is a musty smell under the kitchen sink and most of the outlets need replaced. While there was internet available, it would have been nice to know ahead of time that there is very TV stations available. We could have brought our Apple TV.

All in all, we were satisfied with Serenity Ridge, but it is just a little too wooded and in need of some serious exterior work.

Fabulous Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderfully relaxing and rejuvenating stay at Serenity Ridge! It was a magical place. Every evening we went down the road to the beach and experienced a glorious sunset. The house, which is tucked away into beautiful woods at the top of a ridge, is lovely and takes full advantage of the wooded setting. There are large windows, spacious rooms, updated baths and kitchen and a fabulous deck with a fire pit to enjoy! It is secluded, yet within an easy drive to Saugatuck, Douglas and Holland. Wonderful restaurants and shops, natural beauty and majesty. We highly recommend this lovely spot in breathtaking Southwestern Michigan.

Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at Serenity Ridge. The bedrooms are very spacious and on separate floors. The living room and kitchen are large and have all the amenities. The best part is the location right in the middle of the woods with a huge back deck, a firepit, a screened-in porch, and steps that will allow you explore the woods even further. The nearby lake access allows you to walk along the lake and swim. You are not permitted to put down towels or chairs but you can do that at a nearby public park or Oval Beach in Saugatuck. The owner is extremely responsive and helpful in making sure your stay is what you expect. Be sure to explore Fennville, Douglas, Saugatuk, Holland and South Haven.

Truly serene

  • 5 of 5

Loved the place, it was so beautiful surrounded by so many lush tall trees, and so close to the beach. It was one of our best gateways. So relaxing yet so many things to explore. You would instantly feel a connection to nature when you arrive and you cannot help feel a little sad when you leave. The owner, John Risko was very helpful and responded quickly to my queues. I would highly recommend this place for all those who love nature.

Pretty much perfect

  • 5 of 5

This was a GREAT place to stay--the secluded wooded setting with HUGE deck was amazing, it's super close to two beaches (that are a bit rocky but they don't get as crowded as Oval), and close to Saugatuck/Douglas, South Haven and Fennville. I was looking for a nice break from the city, and this was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I have friends in the area and it was the perfect homebase for people to come hang, bbq and chill on the beach.

The house itself was well-stocked with all the pots, pans and prep tools for cooking/grilling, a stash of kids toys and even some shampoo/conditioners under one of the bathroom sink left by other guests. While not overtly "fancy", everything was high quality--which makes a huge difference in how comfy a place feels. Often vacation rentals have the cheapest imaginable bedding and mishmash furnishings--here all of the finishes, linens, furniture and everything else were really nice. The new carpet was so plush it made me want to carpet my own house! The layout works well for privacy--there's a bedroom suite downstairs with a bed and pull-out couch and a second bedroom upstairs close to the hall bath. Finally there's an adorable loft--a friend came up for one night and all three of her kids slept up there.

Tips: You're definitely in the woods, so bring plenty of bug spray. They ask that you don't wear shoes inside (which is keeping that awesome carpet so nice), so you want to be sure to have something to easily slip on and off when you're going in and out from the deck.

I'll definitely rent this home again next time I'm back in the area. All in all, it's one of the nicest rentals I've ever stayed in and I would most highly recommend it.
