'You have to see it to believe it. Wareloch is one of the few places on earth where you can experience uninterrupted views of land and sea, not a neighbor in sight. Gorgeous spot, lovely home, gracious host. Pure paradise!' Previous Guest's Comment

Wareloch is one of the few remaining places where you can enjoy sweeping, uninterrupted views of the Ware River and Mobjack Bay – an arm of the Chesapeake Bay. Wareloch is on a natural inlet between two coves with beautiful private, secluded beaches.

Children can enjoy a swim in the river, build a sandcastle or play hide-and-seek in the boxwood gardens. Adults can relax by the water – a good read in one hand and a favorite beverage in the other. Animal watchers can observe such wildlife paradise as ospreys, snowy egrets, blue herons, bald eagles, great horned owls, wild turkeys, white-tail deer and more. Or you can kayak along the shoreline, soak up the sun on the private beaches, or find your own peaceful spot at a scenic paradise we call Wareloch.

Wareloch is the perfect spot to host family and friends for the holidays or anytime you want to gather at one place. The kitchen is fully stocked and the dining room can seat 10-12 guests. This 3,900-square-foot home has 12 rooms featuring 4 bedrooms (1 king, 1 double, 2 twins, 2 twins & a futon), 2 ½ baths, formal living room, dining room, den (sofa bed), library (sofa bed), music room, breakfast room, kitchen, butler’s pantry and screened porch. The kitchen features new cabinets, countertops and appliances. Whether you come with family or friends, you will find Wareloch is an unbelievable place that will beckon you back year after year. We are happy to answer any questions and help you plan your perfect vacation getaway!

About Paula

Born and raised in Gloucester. Attended the University of Virginia for my undergraduate degree and the College of William and Mary for my M.B.A. I reside in Williamsburg full-time with my family and pets. I teach as an adjunct professor of Economics for Thomas Nelson Community College. The rest of my time I spend volunteering at my daughters' elementary school and maintaining Wareloch! I am happy to help you plan your perfect getaway to the Tidewater area!!

Paula purchased this house in 2006

Why Paula chose Gloucester

I grew up in Gloucester. When my uncle passed he left me his beautiful home on the water. I spent many hours as a child on the beach and playing in the woods here.

What makes this house unique

For me Wareloch is the perfect getaway spot, I love the tranquility and peacefulness here. Whether I am enjoying the view by the water or taking a walk through the woods, it is a place that rejuvenates the soul.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The only negative part of our stay was that we had to leave! We were so taken in by this lovely place- the history, the views, the house. We had plans to go to Williamsburg or Virginia Beach but couldn't bear to leave the property during the day. Days were spent kayaking, crabbing, swimming and reading on the dock and playing. God bless you and this place.

Fantastic long weekend!!! We left feeling refreshed and recharged.

Wareloch takes you back in time with incredible views and a historically styled home. We caught fish, crabs and spent hours on the dock and beach. The screened porch and large yard allowed for hours of enjoyment. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

The property was nice, but not very clean.

  • 2 of 5

The property itself was nice, but not very clean. They charged a cleaning fee and when we arrived it didn't appear as though it had been cleaned in weeks. There were spider webs around the house including on the toilet paper holder. There was dirt on the kitchen floor under the mat and old toothpaste in the toothbrush holder. All in all it had the potential to be a really nice retreat, but the cleanliness distracted from the overall ambience of the setting.

Large house that is well furnished. The view of the river is beautifull. We had a fire every evening. It was a great family get together. John & Margaret Ferrell

Our family was completely enchanted with this home! An easy drive from Busch Gardens, we spent our days crabbing, reading and sitting on the pier. We definitely plan to return!
