Ware neck vacation
Beautiful area and view of the water. Very clean and comfortable. Enjoyed watching the dolphins.
This is our second stay in as many years. Even the hurricane, Florence, couldn't stop our enjoyment, even though it cut off our stay by one day. Ashley was very accommodating and alerting us what was going on and also looking out for our safety. Will definitely be staying here again in the future!
Super cute, very comfy
Beautifully decorated, perfect size for a family of 4, on a quiet stretch of beach with just a few other houses in sight. We made great use of the screened porch (watched the sun and moon rise each day) and were pleasantly surprised to find there were no mosquitoes (just the occasiona biting fly so still bring the spray)!! Paddle board and kayaks were a big hit for the kids. Beds were comfy, house was well equipped, and it was immaculately clean. Only wish we had found some games or puzzles to keep us busy during the hottest part of the day. So much great wildlife - herons, cranes, dolphins, crabs, fish, hummingbirds. We’ve already recommended the property to friends and we’ll definitely be back!
We had a wonderful stay here and are already talking about coming back next year. The porch is so relaxing, great views, with nature all around. The house was beautifully renovated and well taken care of, it was also tastefully furnished with comfy beds and couches. We cooked almost every night and did some crabbing from the shore. The private beach was awesome and perfect for us. The Kayaks were my favorite part, but a close second was the huge screened in porch. Cannot say enough about that porch! It was just what we were looking for.
Everything we'd hoped
Ashley cleans the house herself, and it shows. It was spotless. Everything was in good working condition -- the cottage has the feel of a labor of love. The screened porch was perfect for enjoying the osprey as they fished, listening to the waves on the shore -- and all beyond the reach of the bugs. The wifi was fine for streaming movies. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up local produce and fresh seafood from nearby farmers markets and seafood stores. (But take your own drinking water if you don't care for slightly sulphurous water.) There are some excellent restaurants within half an hour, notably Merroir which is about 20 miles north, in Topping, but also some good places in nearby Gloucester. We happened to catch a good blues band at "Something Different" -- a restaurant in Urbanna, also about 20 miles away. The fishing off the beach is good, if you know what you're doing, with rockfish, spotted trout, drumfish, croakers (which do in fact croak when you beach them, I learned) and other varieties. (I caught the biggest fish of my life -- regrettably, a stingray, which was tricky to de-hook.) Gloucester and other local towns are charming, and worth exploring, with lots of mom-and-pop consignment shops and general stores. I went with my wife and daughter, and we're hooked.
Charming weekend on Ware Neck
Our family had a nice get away from DC here! Super cute interior and back porch where we spent our evenings. My preschool aged boys enjoyed looking for shells, tracking animals on the sand, and finding small crabs, fish, and even a sting Ray on the private beach and cove. Quiet and about 15/20 minutes from shops/town, it was a great few days as a family to wrap up our Summer. I think we’ll be back!
