My husband and I recently took a trip to Texas to escape the wrath of winter in the north, only to find ourselves caught up in the historic winter nightmare down in Texas in mid February. We made it down to New Braunfels, but we ended up being trapped in the VRBO for two days. The entire state was paralyzed and shutdown, so we checked out a day early to take advantage of a 12 hour window to escape in our rental car before the next ice and snow storm came through. Under the circumstances, I don't feel we can adequately or fairly give feedback about our stay in this home. What I can say is the home is very clean, and Melva is a thoughtful and attentive owner.
I understand this type of winter weather event is rare in Texas, but I do feel the home should be equipped with items to deal with potential power outages, which could happen at any time. There were no flashlights or candles available for use. The home is situated in a rural area with no lights near by, so if we didn't have our phones (which we had to charge through the car when the power went out), we were sitting in ink black darkness. Although not a tool for power outages (or is it!?), the home doesn't have a cork screw, so we were unable to open the bottle of wine we had purchased. We feel this should be a staple utensil available for guests, so we were a bit frustrated by this oversight.
If and when we return to the area, we will definitely consider staying here. Clean homes and kind owners are priorities to us, so this is a good option if and when we give it another try!
