About Jeanne & Elroy Jonas and Lisa Hallmark

Elroy Jonas was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas. Back in the days, he and his family lived on his Great Opa's homestead plantation raising crops and livestock. After months of rain, the family was forced to move to another location, so the Canyon Lake Dam could be built. Today, the Jonas Ranch (est 1940s) is 4th generation!

Jeanne & Elroy Jonas and Lisa Hallmark purchased this cottage in 1941

Why Jeanne & Elroy Jonas and Lisa Hallmark chose Hill Country

The Jonas Ranch was purchased in the early 1940s and still holds natural wildlife and many breeds of sheep. Spring fed water runs through Purgatory Creek on the ranch and part of the ranch includes the Devils Backbone with breathtaking views from at top.

This place is great

  • 5 of 5

We came out for our honeymoon, and we loved it. It's a 12 minute drive to Blue Hole, and an hour drive to both Austin and San Antonio. The house is very nice; the beds are very comfortable; they are very pet friendly, and our dog loved the place. Would highly recommend, and we will surely be back.

Very clean, great location and very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This place is on a very well maintained property with a quaint inviting sitting area to BBQ and socialize. The house is decorated very homey and the space utilized perfectly. Linens smelled very fresh and I LOVED the labels that were placed strategically around to let you know exactly where everything was. I highly recommend his property and will absolutely visit again.

Great get away with the dogs

  • 5 of 5

First things first: this is a very clean place. The owners obviously have a history in pet boarding and know what it takes to keep a facility like this in top shape. It is well designed and immaculately maintained. I was expecting a lingering pet smell and it was the exact opposite. Even though it rained for half of our stay and we had three dogs with us, there were no smell issue. Really amazing.

After that, it is just a really nice space. We had two adults and two teens and the rooms were cozy but fine. Sheets and towels were awesome. The living room was great for watching TV but to be honest we spent more time in the dining/kennel room. It is almost like a back porch that is enclosed and air conditioned, but has a kennel extending into it. Relaxed with a finished concrete floor, but nice with a solid wood table and comfortable chairs.

The kitchen was a bit tight for cooking dinner for a large group when we invited some friends over, but it was fine for whipping up breakfast and would have been fine for cooking for four.

The outside patio was great for when we had friends over and the yard is completely fenced so the dogs could join us around the chiminea in the late evening. We had a really good time, even as the weather kept running us in and out of the house.

Finally the owners were fantastic. The morning of our departure there were heavy storms in the area and they came over to check on us and let us know we didn't need to vacate right away if the weather would make travel dangerous. I really appreciated that personal touch and their concern. Later my wife realized they had been texting us as well. We have stayed in several VRBO homes and have been lucky to have great owners at most of them. These were fantastic.

If you have pets this is an easy decision.

Cozy & Comfortable for Humans and Pets

  • 5 of 5

This cottage worked very well for our 11 day stay. I like the size - even though there were only 2 of us and our dog, it was nice to have the extra space which the dining room and extra bedroom provided. The cottage is very comfortably appointed. It was great to be able to let our dog out to roam the fenced front yard as well. Our phone service is Verizon and it worked fairly well and provided mobile hot-spot Internet connectivity pretty consistently. But, it did impact our data plan, so that's something to be aware of. I definitely recommend this property for those staying in the Texas Hill Country.
