Charming and characterful apartment in the heart of London, walkable everywhere

Overview

About the property

1 bedroom apartment (sleeps 4, with sofa bed) with all modern conveniences

Charming, elegant and characterful apartment in a secure period building right in the centre of London, only 200 yards from Oxford Street and Soho. Only 30 yards from Charlotte Street, with its plethora of brilliant and varied restaurants, bars and pubs. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable and light lounge, tastefully furnished throughout. Access to a quiet roof terrace for sunbathing and dining.

There is a comfy queen-sized bed in the bedroom and a sofabed in the lounge, but it's really not an apartment for cramming in 4x fully-grown people; more for a couple, or a couple with one adult guest, or for a family with one or maybe two small children (who retire at the same time as the adults). The apartment features a top-of-the-range sofabed, but none of them are particularly suitable for adults, really.

Facilities include: speedy WiFi broadband, 50' Panasonic plasma 3D HDTV, Blu-Ray/DVD player, iPod sound system, DAB radio, Bosch washer-dryer, Bosch dishwasher, cooker and microwave, large fridge-freezer, overhead shower and bath, books and films galore, children's entertainment, baby cot, high chair, etc.

With regard to your stay, we try to think of everything: feather and down duvets and pillows, because they’re the softest and the nicest (yet man-made available for allergy-sufferers); feather and down mattress toppers, to make comfy beds just … even more comfy; we do not use energy-saving lightbulbs or even LED, just warm tungsten and halogen, because it’s so much warmer and more natural; there is entertainment in the form of books and DVDs/Blu-rays scattered around, that have been thought about (England/London-focussed); ornaments and pictures create an atmosphere, so all these have been considered, to help settle, amuse, enlighten and enhance your stay; no supermarket ‘basic’ or ‘essential’ items are supplied, but just what works best (like Andrex); towels are 100% cotton and plump; bedding is 100% cotton and mostly from John Lewis (you’d be stretched to find a man-made fibre in the apartment); floors are real wood or real wood laminate; there are always rugs; there is always plentiful hot water; heating is always efficient; kitchen equipment is extensive; cutlery and crockery is elegant; and there is nothing that might aesthetically offend.

Equidistant from Goodge Street, Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus tube stations. A 5-minute taxi ride from Euston, Kings Cross and St Pancras.

The property is our pied a terre and this apartment has been recently refurbished. We also own a 3-bed apartment (sleeps 6 - top rated - see listing number 485985) and another 1-bed apartment in the same building. This apartment is located on the second floor, with lift access approached by 6 steps.

STOP PRESS: Fitzrovia hailed as "The best place to live in London" by The Sunday Times, April 2016.

The apartment is a 2-minute walk to Goodge Street tube/metro/underground station and 3 minutes to both Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus stations.

However, London is best explored on foot, providing of course that you're starting from the right location, and there is no better vantage point than this apartment. Here are the walking distances to places you might like to visit during your stay (in minutes, on foot):

Oxford Street (2)

Soho (5)

Regent Street (6)

Covent Garden (8)

British Museum (9)

Harley Street (9)

National Gallery (10)

Leicester Square (10)

Bond Street (10)

Theatre District/Shaftesbury Avenue (10)

Regents Park (10)

National Portrait Gallery (10)

Trafalgar Square (13)

British Library (16)

Madame Tussauds (17)

Hyde Park (17)

Downing Street (18)

Whitehall (18)

Big Ben (21)

Buckingham Palace (22)

Westminster Abbey (22)

London Eye (23)

London Zoo (26)

St Pauls Cathedral (29)

The Royal Albert Hall (37)

Natural History Museum (41)

Tower of London (46)

There inevitably may exist accommodation that is cheaper, yet further afield, but when you add-in taxi/bus/underground charges to and fro, such alternatives can prove a false economy.

OUR RENTAL GUEST COMMENTS:

We had a great time at Lancaster Court from the moment David greeted us. We have stayed in London a number of times in the past, but always at soulless, cramped and usually noisy hotels. Lancaster Court is opposite in every respect. Very pleasant, well fitted out apartment, spacious, secure and quiet, yet in the heart of everything. It’s hard to believe its so close to Oxford Street. The surrounding streets have much to offer, with good restaurants, cafes, pubs, and supermarkets. We would love to return one day, and will definitely recommend it to our friends. Henry and Dianne Walker.

I write to say how much we enjoyed our stay at your lovely apartment. We visit London regularly and stay in apartments, if we are staying for more than two nights. Lancaster Court is the nicest apartment we have stayed in. Many places feel very sterile, but your apartment is so homely with such thoughtful, quirky decor, bright colours, good quality fixtures and fittings, with all rooms being bright light and airy. We were very touched to see fresh flowers in the flat and also to be given milk, kitchen roll and useful basics, like tea and coffee, in the kitchen. The personal touches make a real difference. Needless to say the location is fantastic. Mark, who met us was really friendly and helpful, as you have been, and the flat was exactly like the pictures. Judy Heron

We have had a brilliant stay. Over the years we've stayed at many apartments throughout Europe and USA and your apartment is certainly one of the very best. Everything is as described and we found it to be very comfortable and extremely well equipped. We would love to stay here again on our next visit to London and will certainly recommend to our friends. Nick Holmes

The flat was a hidden jem, in the heart of London city. It was completely affordable too, especially considering its location and the amenities that were provided. The flat itself was lovely - beautiful rooms and a brilliant kitchen that's well equipped for home cooking. The neighbours were lovely too. David, Jonathan's brother was helpful and showed us everything the flat had to offer and gave us the keys. Jonathan has been a pleasure to deal with, and I will be recommending this apartment to everyone I know who is looking to stay in London. Nelson B

We had an amazing time and the flat was beautiful. Newton Velji

We had a brilliant time in London and loved Lancaster Court. After long days of being a tourist it was great to have such a cosy, well-equipped place to return to. The area was fantastic - lots of bars and restaurants right on the doorstep and very convenient. All the fittings were good quality - lovely comfortable bed and sofa. It was good to have a couple of supermarkets close by, too. We have stayed in lots of self-catering places and this is one of the good ones. Anne Boyd

Mary and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your wonderful apartment in Fitzrovia - it had everything we had wanted and more: a wonderful position, great facilities and we loved having an early evening drink on the roof top deck. Wendy Handley

We absolutely enjoyed our stay. The apartment was comfortable, attractive and convenient for us. We especially appreciated all the little touches, such as the fresh flowers, books, CDs, DVDs etc, which made us feel very much at home. We had plenty of towels, linen and the kitchen stocked everything we needed and more! Many thanks for your contribution to our London holiday. I certainly will recommend your apartment to friends coming across from Australia. Michelle Wareham, Oz

We had a wonderful time at the apartment and think it is perfectly situated and has everything one would need. David and Suzanne Simmonds

I wanted to let you know what a wonderful experience we had at your apartment. It was clean, cozy and very thoughtful in its decor. We appreciate how professional you are and had a lovely stay in London. I will definitely love to return. Thank you so much. Milinda Zumpano, Spike TV

We really did have a lovely time at your place. The apartment was well equipped, spacious and charming. I especially enjoyed the small details in decoration: the posters, little waving Queen and Titanic memorabilia etc. The location is really handy. Your housekeeper was very nice and efficient. We will definitely return and I am also going to recommend you to my friends when they need a good quality place for reasonable price. Susanna Yla-Pynnonen

The apartment was great, thanks for everything. I have sent a link to a bunch of people, we loved the place and the location. We will definitely rent from you next time we're in London, thanks SO much. Ben Rayl

Just wanted to say we had a fabulous time in London and the apartment was immaculate and in an ideal location. I've never stayed anywhere as well kitted out, so congratulations; you have thought of everything. If we decide to return to London in the future, we will definitely be in touch. Lisa O’Neill

We had a lovely stay at Lancaster Court. It was fabulous to be so close to everything in London. Rebecca Richardson

Thanks again for a wonderful stay, the apartment and location was just perfect! The decor was beautiful Very cool! Elaine Laing

We had a fantastic stay at Lancaster Court. The location is ideal for accessing all manner of London entertainment/restaurants/museums and was so easy to get back to late at night after theatre etc. Brilliantly equipped, much more than we needed. Sheena Cornish

About Jonathan

I work in the film industry, as Producer and Executive Producer (The Machine, Clubbed, Romans 12:20, LA Slasher, Dartmoor Killing, Let's Be Evil, Kung Fu Princess etc), plus run a UK-based angel investment network.

We are a family of 6 (kids 21, 19, 7 and 4) and travel extensively, in the summer to the south of France/Corsica, every year to Venice, skiing in winter in the Alps, with the occasional foray to the States (LA, NYC) and the Far East (Thailand).

We always rent self-catering accommodation, so we trust we provide what we appreciate when we travel: places that are comfortable, extensively equipped, centrally located, and into which you can settle down and feel 'at home' immediately upon arrival.

We can handle 'bundle deals' for European trips that involve stays in London, the British countryside, Bath and Venice. Just enquire.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Unfortunately this place didn't live up to its reputation

  • 1 of 5

My husband, daughter and I booked 3 nights here in mid-August for our first trip to London. The location seemed ideal, and the pictures online were charming, plus there was laundry included in the unit, which was a positive to us considering the length of our vacation. Unfortunately, we found an apartment that was quite dirty and dusty--so much so I felt I needed to clean it a bit when we arrived. Additionally, when trying to run the shower to clean it out a bit before we used it, there was such a strong smell of mold that we determined we could not use the shower. Lastly, unless we missed it, there was never any indication of the popular (and very loud) pub right below the unit. Given that it was a nice evening and the unit had no air conditioning, it was necessary to open the windows but the noise from the pub (on a Thursday evening) was loud and constant until the early hours of the morning. For many reasons, this unit was not suitable for families, especially for us, and we departed this apartment the next morning, two days earlier than planned, as I had found an availability at the last minute at a nearby hotel. I notified the owner via email that we were not staying the second and third nights and he responded with a very nice note that he was surprised and would get to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, he did not try to refund us any portion of the two nights we didn't stay at the apartment, which would have been appreciated as a good-faith gesture.

Owner's Response: During vacant periods, when not using the apartments for ourselves, over the last six years we have been lucky enough to host many dozens of fabulous travellers, if not hundreds (if you include our country house), and are proud and thankful for having received 5-star reviews from everyone we’ve been fortunate enough to accommodate. All have been a delight to host and each has appreciated the care we provide and the attention to detail we observe in order to help make their important stay in our capital a pleasant, comfortable and memorable experience. Nothing is too much trouble. Indeed, it’s actually more fun to push the limits of hospitality, rather than rest on your laurels or resort to mediocrity. And then Annette arrived … … as if to spoil the party and burst the bubble. I guess it was inevitable that someone at sometime would try to cheapskate a vacation by shoehorning an entire family into a one-bedroom apartment and then being surprised when things went awry. And yet whatever we did to try to assist - whether to relocate, refund or restore - it just wasn’t good enough. Whatever normal response we attempted provoked an abnormal reaction. But we won’t allow this singularly distasteful incident to sully our experience of accommodating otherwise delightful world travellers for a quarter of each year, since most balanced individuals will be perfectly aware that when benefitting from being at the very centre of things, at the hub, in the throng, it’s probably sensible to close the windows and the secondary glazing, which simply and easily eliminates the buzz of the city, until you again want to participate in its vibrancy. And now, having wiped a small area of bathroom wall and picked up a bit of fluff, we’re back to being OCD-friendly.

Wonderful stay in the heart of London

  • 5 of 5

We had the most wonderful experience with our stay. The apartment is centrally located with great walking or public transport opportunities to any destination. The choices of dining just around the corner are endless. The arrival and departure could not be smoother. The housekeeper lives around the corner and was extremely helpful with any questions we had. We will definitely choose the same accommodation at our next trip.

Thank You Jonathan.
