About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

Interlude is a true year around jewel on Sproat Lake. Guests have included reunions, weddings, corporate retreats, and even a composer in residence one winter who used the piano daily. The dock is huge - 20 foot X 44 foot with dock shed with fridge and sun tent. The water hovers around 78 degrees in the summertime, and every fish in the lake has to pass right beside our float. Eagles and Osprey fly overhead as the river is just 1/4 mile downstream and fishermen are on the shores many times throughout the year.

Many guests book 3 day retreats throughout the year - and Christmas is a magical time with usually just enough snow to capture your imagination. Christmas/New Years is a popular time slot at Interlude!

The proximity of Interlude to Port Alberni (10 minute drive) for the world famous salmon fishing, or Tofino/Ucluelet (1.5 hour drive) for your Long Beach adventure - as well as everything that the cleanest recreational lake in B.C. can offer is without parallel. We have winter guests only - who state that the solitude broken only by fish jumping is precisely what their soul needs. The nearby town of Port Alberni has every convenience, and your journey from Nanaimo is only 1 hour or from Victoria is 2.5 hours.

Guest include visitors from Holland, England, New Zealand, Italy, Germany,USA, and many from Vancouver and Victoria.

Why Bryce Gibney chose Sproat Lake

Sproat Lake was a wonderful place to grow up, and my most vivid memories as a boy are sitting around campfires at night and swimming or playing on water toys all day. Our own children spent summers vacationing at friends' homes on the lake, and when the opportunity to purchase this property came up we jumped at the chance. Interlude offers everything a lake home can, yet is only 7 miles from the salt water and best salmon fishing in the world. Time-wise visitors can be on the dock within 3 hours of leaving Vancouver! There is no cleaner more recreation friendly lake that is readily accessible to the urban centres of Vancouver and Victoria.

What makes this house unique

Interlude was built to house many family and friends, and it does just that. The 3 separate floors and living areas allow noise separation, and make a terrific vacation regardless of weather. Fall and winter guests tell us that the idyllic calm and silence they experience rejuvenates their soul!

Excellent family vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd year at Interlude and we absolutely loved it...we share this precious week with one other family and the home is totally accommodating, spacious and well equipped. We spend 90% of our time on the dock and in the water and really appreciate the use of the Lund boat and mini refrigerator in the boathouse! Can't wait to repeat next year!

Owner's Response: This family experience is a great example of why I built Interlude in the first place. My children, plus nieces and nephews are now adults with their own young families - and they still talk of adventures at Interlude back in the mid 1990's at the lake. I can't imagine a better 'family relationship building' vacation than spending time together in this environment. We have one guest family whose children have spent 16 consecutive summer vacations at Interlude. This home is truly part of how they have grown up!

Loved it all over again!

This place is our oasis. Our family loves it in the less busy times of the year, and it has been a second home we look forward to the entire rest of the year.

Loved the wide open spaciousness!

We rented this for a 'girls get-away' celebration. It was perfect for our visit, and everyone agreed it would be the ideal summertime vacation property to return with our family members. The house was well equipped, right down to our firewood and kindling being ready right at the door. One of our ladies even brought her bicycle and was surprised at the complete tool room downstairs for a needed repair to her cycle. Lovely home and neat as a pin for our visit.

Initial response was terrific

This is a well maintained home on a spectacular piece of property. We had unusually nice weather so were able to do some canoe exploring. Also took the aluminum rowboat out which was fun. Wish I had my fishing rod. House had everything we could possibly wish for, including a brand new BBQ (we were first users - rack still had factory plastic on it), and great WIFI and cable service. Found that the WIFI even worked down on the dock. Pool table a nice touch, and a well equipped workshop downstairs which loaned me the tools to repair a problem on our bicycles. Overall a great early Spring break.

Thank you!

Expensive for what you get (and don't get)

  • 3 of 5

Our family of 6 (2 children, 4 adults) rented this home for a week in July-August. It has no AC, and faces NW, so the evenings/nights were sweltering, especially the loft, and there was only 1 small fan provided. The location on the lake, however, is excellent (quiet, lots of privacy). But the dock could also do with more shade/protection. Everything inside was clean, and functional, but definitely "dated." Beds were not the most comfortable. Check-in was at 4 pm, and check-out at 10 am, so we got basically only 6 days and 7 nights for a week's booking. Shortly before our arrival we were warned by the owner to be out by 10 am sharp or we would be penalized a very big late charge (something that should be in the contract but wasn't). Everything considered, we would not rent this property a 2nd time.

Owner's Response: We're somewhat puzzled. This is our only negative review in 12 consecutive sold out years. Guest arrived early, with 2 dogs (contrary to house rules), and was provided a tour. Yes, it was a hot week. We have a 10' X 10' sun tent on the dock and 2 additional dock umbrellas in the utility room. There are 3 additional fans in utility room which he didn't look for nor inquire about. Our managers reside just 200 yards away and they heard nothing all week. This guest's dogs slobbered over the entire house which cost additional time and effort to remove (he was not charged for same). Everything is in top condition, and mattresses are changed every 3 years. Furnishings in photos are representative although some upgrades not featured. As for the departure time, it is in all rental contracts. It does take a full 6 hours to turn this large home around, and our team needs every minute of it. If guests delay their departure it causes additional expense on the owner's part, so we were required to put a note in there about late checkout fees. His comment about not getting a full week rental because it was 7 nights and 6.5 days is unusual. Virtually all paid accommodation anywhere has a set check-in and check-out time. Our conditions are identical to virtually every other rental in the world. We are proactive always ensuring every guest's needs are met. There has never been a maintenance issue unaddressed immediately. Special requests are always responded to same day - typically within hours. Owner and property manager are always available by text, cell, or voice message 24/7. Our guests from Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Holland, England, and all over Canada and the USA are testament to the welcome and hospitality we provide all guests at Interlude Holidays.
