Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Becca! I wanted to tell you just how perfect our trip to Mt. Hood (and the Majestic Mountain Retreat) was. I have traveled quite a bit with my husband, all over the country, and I am very picky about accommodations. I only the book the best, because I believe its worth it! I also have learned how sometime places can make their accommodations look really spectacular on-line, and then not meet expectations upon arrival. I have to say, when we pulled up to the property, with night settling, the ground glistening, and the lodge all aglow with Christmas lights, I was THRILLED! The lodge looks like something that you would see featured on television or in a magazine, inside and out. My kids (after a very early morning departure and hours of travel) were giddy with excitement, while Ben and I were just slack-jawed at the beauty of it all.

Our amazement did not end with the first impression either. Throughout the weekend, we were continually blown away with how you seemed to have thought of everything we could possibly need to be more comfortable. The beds were cozy! The fully equipped and perfectly organized kitchen was large enough to accommodate several people at once. We had 14 people and not once were we standing in line for a bathroom or waiting on warm water! That's amazing all on its own! Then there are the down blankets, the cozy robes and spa towels, the HUGE dvd collection (my kids loved that), the VIEW out every window, the fireplace that seemed to keep every room in the house warm but not hot. Then there was the always available hostess. Not once did we get your voicemail, not once did you hesitate to come make sure all was taken care of. I love vacations, but usually by the end of a vacation, I feel ready to go, ready for my own bed, my own kitchen, my own space... this is the first place I have visited where I feel like I could have stayed and stayed. Our families made some amazing memories on this trip, and as my six year-old said about 50 times on the long trip home, "This was the best vacation ever! I can't wait to come back!"

Thanks so much for helping make that happen.

Our Perfect Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was the most blissful 4 days we've had in almost 4 years. We arrived in the daylight, coming up the driveway looking at this stunning 3 story log home. WOW! Upon entering this beautifully and very well cared for home, its gorgeous huge log pillars with vaulted ceilings were breathtaking. The kitchen was like a chef had designed and equipped it. Everything you could ever need was there.

Games galore, great TV and an awesome hot tub. My daughter commented on how clean and fresh the entire home was, so neat and tidy and arranged very well. Besides a great hiking trail, awesome yard to wander in and safe for kids to play in.

Out of all this my favorite part was sitting out on the 3rd story balcony curled up in a blanket in my pj's having coffee with my daughter. She looks at me and says "You'd better enjoy this. its not every day you can have coffee and watch the deer right out in the front yard!"

Serenity is the perfect name for this enchanted place. My Granddaughter said "Grandma its like a princess castle!" We can't wait to come back!

Wonderful Family Thanksgiving Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Everything was absolutely wonderful! The house is BEAUTIFUL and very custom! It's furnished with very comfortable beds, chairs, tables, and couches. There are plenty of games to be played, foosball, chess, poker, and more! The kitchen was very well stocked with quality utensils, dishes and appliances. There were also AMAZING soaps, eco-friendly cleaning supplies, lovely robes and blankets, you name it! Becca was sooo thoughtful in stocking this house!!

This was the fifth house rental I have stayed in and has definitely been one of my favorites! Our group of 9 adults, 1 child, and 1 baby were very comfortable with the accomdations! Lovely home! Thank you so much Becca!

Heaven on earth!

  • 5 of 5

If you're reading this review, look no further - you have found "the one" - the vacation home that truly has it all. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and are already planning to bring friends back with us next time -- the bedrooms, baths, and living areas (in other words the whole home) are spacious and comfortable enough to fit two or more families very easily. When we booked our reservation, we'd been told by several friends how this place is so amazing... yet still found ourselves astonished at the true luxury quality of it all. All of the furniture is amazingly comfortable, everything is clean, the appliances are top-notch and worked perfectly for us, and the view from every window is so beautiful. Not to mention the location is very quiet and secluded, but not actually "remote" - offering the best of both worlds. We've traveled a bit, and can say with total honesty and excitement that this is the nicest and most comfortable home away from home we have ever found, including hotels and rental homes. Not only because of how pretty everything is, but also in large part because literally EVERYthing we needed was there. Of course we didn't use every room or every feature available (we didn't end up trying the fireplace or hot tub), but I did spend a LOTTTT of time playing in the kitchen. Ohhh that kitchen <3 I could not stop saying things like "whaaaat! they have a standing mixer!" and "they even have casserole dishes... in so many sizes!!" When I wanted an apron, all I had to do was open a cabinet, and ta-da! There were aprons. There was not a single thing missing. I even marveled at the landscaping - the way everything thrived and bloomed made me feel like it was there just for us! I'll be thrilled to bring friends back, and our kids one day when we have a family, so I can use the kitchen to create a real feast and eat out on the balcony under the trees... Or brew a pot of locally-roasted coffee early in the morning, sitting out front (where there is a charming circle of chairs) listening to the birds and holding our breath to see how close the deer will come. My girl friends will love it. So will their husbands! Who wouldn't? For families with kids - this place is for you, too. Board games and DVDs galore - and lots of play space, both inside and out. All of this, paired with the perfect location for enjoying nature or driving into Portland for a day in town; it's perfection. Not to mention, the owners are incredibly hospitable. Enjoy!

Serenity you want, Serenity you find.

  • 5 of 5

The experience of staying at Serenity has left me pondering on why is it I did not discover this place sooner?

From the moment you touch base with the owners, Becca and Richard... You know you are in for a special time. A memorable time.

There is nothing I can tell you that would not make you want to stay there. ... It is... An experience that will change you, refocus your priorities and refresh your sense of being.

By all means... Let your adventure begin at Serenity.... It is magical.

Fabulous Family Fun

  • 5 of 5

This was the best place that my family has ever stayed on Mt. Hood, or anywhere! The house was even better than we expected. The massive timbers and open space makes it feel like your own private lodge, not just a cabin. Each room was thoughtfully decorated with every accommodation that you could imagine, from robes and slippers to tissues and towels. The details were phenomenal! We especially loved the bookshelves, games, movies, and CD's that were offered. It made it feel like home and kept everyone happy. The kitchen was perfect for cooking family meals. We were fortunate to get some snow, and really enjoyed the sleds and shovels for playing outside. Then, of course, the hot tub was a great way to end each day. The beauty of the property is unmatched. I can hardly say enough about how truly amazing this place is. We will be back!!

Good for the soul

  • 5 of 5

The world needs places like this. Somewhere where the accumulated concerns and stresses of work or life can dissipate in the gentle breeze through the mountain firs. I try to come to A Majestic Mountain Retreat every year for the gentle maintenance and cleansing of existence. Whether reading in front of the fireplace, or enjoying some coffee on the balcony, It seems every minute is time well spent. There is a wonderful riverside hiking trail nearby that I always try to make time for as well.

The attention to detail in the accommodations, and the almost psychic anticipation of all my needs is another reason I come back every year. While the TV never comes on during my stay, it's nice to have that option (Okay, I admit I checked my email a couple of times - because I could!). I've been in the winter and summer and find stays during those times equally enchanting.

I'm betting if you stay here, you will be a repeat visitor like me - Your soul will start making demands! :)
