Great house, gorgeous location! Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, near historic Shelby and Kings Mountain, NC. We have 5 acres of rolling hills and hardwood forest, directly on 400' of waterfront. Plenty of space to let the kids and pets run around! Only 45 minutes from Charlotte, but worlds away from the hustle and bustle.
Moss Lake is a quiet, spring-fed lake that is very clean (it’s the primary water supply for Kings Mountain) where you can canoe, fish, water ski and jet ski without the mayhem of other lakes near Charlotte. Close to Kings Mountain, Historic Shelby, Crowders Mountain, Schiele Museum, golf courses AND other attractions - there is plenty to do if you want to get out and about.
The waterfront includes a large private dock with mooring cleats, only a few minutes from a public landing so getting your boat there is a breeze! With state-record bass, it’s perfect for early morning anglers; with stunning views, it’s perfect for a sunset canoe ride. Or, kick into high gear with your jet ski or power boat. Whatever your pleasure, you’ll enjoy your water sports away from the crowds for a relaxing and fun experience.
On the property is a charming farmhouse with two bedrooms and one bath specifically set up for accommodating and entertaining large groups (owners have 5 kids, who all bring their friends for overnight sleep-overs!) With a queen-sized bed in the master bedroom, two sets of bunk beds in the other bedroom, as well as a pullout sofa in the great room - which all mean you can sleep up to 8 comfortably. Includes newly renovated modern kitchen and bathroom, washer/dryer, new water heater, A/C, etc. HDTV with DVD player, WiFi, and a bunch of popular movies for your use. We even have a closet full of books, puzzles and board games if the kids ever wear out from all the fun in the sun.
Please email me for lots of pictures and more info on the home, the lake, and stuff to do in Shelby and Kings Mountain.
This is truly a 'hidden gem' we are renting out again this year - discover it, and love it like we do!
We are a family with 5 active kids and an energetic border collie. We use the lakehouse whenever we can - but enjoy sharing it with other folks.
Steve purchased this house in 2006
Gorgeous lake, very little boat traffic
My son had such a great time! We used the dock and lake a lot. Lots of wakeboarding...and Xbox (lol)! Thanks!
What a wonderful stay....close to everything..yet like having your own private lake. Everything was perfect.Plenty of nice linens ,well stocked kitchen, great shower. Everything was just awesome. We traveled with our elderly dog..he thought he was 3 again ! The whole trip was worth it just for his pleasure. Lots of wildlife and very peaceful in September. Lake was warm and clear as a bell. We Kayak fished.. it costs $1.00 for a year for a non motorized boat and 20.00 for an annual fishing license. Hard fishing but what a great paddle place. Highly recomend for couples like us who like to lounge and read or large families ..as there is plenty of room. Don't forget the Boche Balls !! Front yard is awesome too !!
Just wanted to thank you for a great week at the lake. We enjoyed the house and the lake. Our 10 yr old lab LOVED swimming and "fishing" in the lake. He has not been able to do that since we moved to SC since there are alligators in all of our lagoons. My husband enjoyed fishing, but didn't catch anything. According to him there is not enough "structure", but it was still relaxing and enjoyable for him. We were thrilled with all of the things that came with the house...extra linens, pillows, blankets, paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, dish soap, shampoo, and hand soap. We have stayed in several VRBO homes and had to go to the grocery store the 1st day to get some of those things. That was VERY nice and we appreciate it. The kitchen is awesome. We made some meals there and brought some in, but there wasn't one thing we needed that we couldn't find. The outside area is wonderful. What a gorgeous view and the chairs on the dock, in the yard and on the porch are great. We did not canoe, but how nice to have it available for us. Also, it is great that you guys are so dog friendly. We like to travel with our dogs but it is difficult to find places that work out as well as yours (both inside and outside). Lastly, I want to thank you for being so responsive when we were working to set this up, and texting once we got there. You are very easy to work with and returned our damage deposit immediately.
We didn't do much in the town but did go to Crowder Mountain one day. We hiked around with the dogs. The paths are very well maintained and the park is very beautiful and peaceful. We had dinner at Chens. Very good Chinese. We were not impressed with Alston Bridges BBQ, the ribs were chewy and they do not serve alcohol. The wings place (Wings, Etc) is a good place to catch a game, a beer and a burger. All in all, we had a great week.
The location and grounds are what make this property fantastic! While located on a busy street the setback, trees, and shrubs provide privacy as does the sheer size of the property. Sunrises over the lake are beautiful and deer can be spotted during early morning walks lakeside. Stargazing from the deck and dock is plentiful. This is an ideal location for adults who desire total relaxation or an inspiring space to write, paint, etc. It is also great for children and adults who want to fish, swim, canoe/kayak, and explore the surrounding areas. The renovated kitchen and bathroom were very nice and had the necessary amenities and comforts of home. Although the remainder of the house has not been renovated it is clean, well kept, and comfortable.
We just returned from a weeks long stay at this amazing house on the lake. We had 6 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs. There was plenty of space. I can't say enough good things about this location. The owners obviously care a great deal about their property and their guests. The house is beautiful, the property is large and very well kept. the lake is amazing. Crystal clear blue/green water. The dock is an amazing place to relax. We all left with zero complaints (well, besides the fact that we had to leave). The rental transaction was very smooth and the owners are very easy to deal with and communicate very well with questions or concerns you may have. We will be coming back to stay as soon as we can! Thanks for and AMAZING time! Highly recommend this fantastic get away!
We were traveling from Pennsylvania to the Charlotte area to meet our oldest daughter who was flying into Douglas Airport from Rome after 6 weeks of studying abroad, so we decided to turn the trip into a week-long family vacation. We are so glad we chose Steve and Michelle's beautiful lake house for our home-base as it served as a perfect place for an awesome family vacation. The farmhouse is both cozy and spacious, and was much more than adequate to accomodate mom, dad, and 7 of our 8 children (ages 6 to 21). We really appreciated the stylishly renovated kitchen and updated bathroom.
While the interior of the home was most comfortable and the kids took adavantage of the many inside ameneties in the great room such as DVDs and board games (and Dad used the TV to tune in the dramatic Game 7 of the NBA Finals to see Lebron James and the Cavaliers snatch the crown from Davidson's own Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors), the 5 acres of the exterior grounds kicked this vacation over from "great" to "Awesome!" Our busy schedule had us arriving early Sunday morning in time to witness a spectacular sunrise over the lake, and the location provided gorgeous views throughout the stay. While the brochure from Moss Lake informed us that the average depth of the water is 50' which provides for all varieties of water recreation from water skiing, jet skiing, fishing, etc., the gradual slope from the shoreline was great for swimming, especially with our 6 year olds and 9 year old. There are excellent facilities if you have your own power boat, but as the high-light of many summers for me was canoeing the rivers of Northern Michigan, I was quite satisfied using the canoe that comes with the property.
We used the central location of the home to make severarl side trips, such as the hike up Crowders Mountain with reward of the incredible view at th summit, lunch at King's Mountain State Park in nearby South Carolina, the Schiele Museum in Gastonia, lunch at OMB Brewery in Charlotte before picking up our daughter at the airport, Belmont Abbey College, the North Carolina Arboretum near Asheville, downtown Asheville, and the nearby town of Shelby itself. With so much to do we left much undone and we look forward to coming back again, but the best part was probably doing "nothing", relaxing inside the house, on the back porch at night with the Tiki torches lit, and especially kicking back in the lounge chairs on the dock. A great time was had by all!
We just recently returned from a week at this beautiful place. Our 3 boys (ages 10,10,12) can't stop talking about what a wonderful time they had and asked if we could come here every year. Steve and Michelle were absolute terrific to work with and made us feel so welcome. The boat and tubing was by far, everyone's favorite! Our dog was in heaven playing in the water and running around the property. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to have a wonderful vacation!!
Near Kings Mountain and Shelby, right on Moss Lake!!! Large private dock, gradual beachfront, perfect for kids.
