About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Come and build memories with your family in our condo as we have for the past ten ski seasons and summers. The condo has two bedrooms a comfortable queen size bed in one bedroom and a full bottom/twin top bunk bed in the 2nd bedroom. Both have remodeled full bathrooms attached. There is a full kitchen including full size refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher with all necessary cooking and eating utensils.

You can see the slopes from the balcony right off the living room. Relax in the living room next to the real woodburning fireplace or watch a movie on the TV. This unit is on the top floor so it is very quiet.

When you are ready to go out, walk 200 yards to the high speed 6 pack lift that will take you to the top of Durango Mountain. Enjoy the typically quiet slopes on your skies or snow board. Take beginner to expert ski or board lessons for yourself and have your children learn from top notch teachers.

The Bears Den is available to watch your infants and toddlers while you ski. At the end of the day, relax at the brand new Purgatory Lodge at the base or enjoy the shops. For more private relaxation, sit next to a real woodburning fireplace in the condo or settle into the indoor hot tub located just down the hall. You can watch a DVD or VHS movie or surf the internet on wireless broadband from the condo.

For something different, go snowmobiling in the backcountry from walking distance to the condo or go tubing at the base of the mountain in the afternoon and evening. You can cross the street to the Nordic center for miles of cross country trails. If you're really adventurous, you can sign up for snowcat skiing that leaves from the main lodge.

Summertime is great as well with tons of hiking, biking, fishing, and sight-seeing options. There are fun activities at the resort. The Durango-Silverton Train is a huge hit as well.

There is definitely plenty for everyone to enjoy. Park your car when you arrive and relax. Everything you need is within a few minutes walking distance.

About The Owner

We are currently a family of 6. Rick, Maria, Daughters age 13 and 11, a son 8, and our exchange student (17) from Norway. I have been skiing and boarding at Purgatory since 1983. As a family we have logged over 100 trips to this place since we bought here in March of 2003.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2003

Why The Owner chose Durango

We love everything thing about the Durango area in the winter and the summer. There is world class skiing, boarding, biking, hiking, fishing, etc! If you love the outdoors you could never be bored in this area.

What makes this condo unique

Great ski mountain that is relatively undiscovered. Because it is more difficult to get to by plane than other resorts near large cities like Denver and Salt Lake City, lift lines are small so you can spend more time carving and less time riding lifts. There is a forest service road in the summer that takes you straight from the resort to amazing back country areas in just about any ordinary vehicle. The town of Durango is a great 1880's tourist town while also being a "real town" with businesses like Home Depot, Wall Mart, Ace, etc. More restaurants per capita than San Francisco we are told.

Great location, well appointed condo!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the resort of the first time and loved the convenience of being able to walk to the lifts. The condo was very comfortable and our kids loved the bunk bed!

Proximity to the slopes hard to beat

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here the 6 days leading up to New Year's. My family of five took advantage of the bunks in one room, the queen bed and my 13 year old sprawled out on the pullout. Having 2 bathrooms was great to allow for everyone having space to clean up. Getting to and from the ski area was a short walk which was outstanding. The hot tub in the condo unit was nothing to write home about, but access to the lodge pool and hot tub was great and with a little planning was a great apres-ski activity for the kids. The only beef I had was the unusual electrical set-up. Accessing the bedside lights in the master bedroom required getting out of bed to get there - not a big deal, but drifting off to sleep reading then having to walk to the light switch before turning in for the evening was a little inconvenient. The same was true throughout the condo. Outlets were all around the floor (vs on tables/counters) with one actually over a burner on the stove-top. With our tech-heavy family, it took some adjustment and getting used to re: plugging in phones/tablets/computers. That being said, everything was in great repair and very clean. The owners kindly left behind some family games and movies which were put to good use! Great place and great experience!

Older property kept in great working condition.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our 9 day stay at this condo.

Originally, I was skeptical about the ease of getting to and from the slopes. It was a very easy and short walk to the lifts. We are older folks so we didn't look forward to walking very far and climbing too many steps. All worked out well and for the money, this is a great place to stay.

We had some minor issues with items (light bulbs) but a quick call to the owner and in the blink of an eye what we needed appeared at the door. There will always be little things that pop up with a condo rental. The important thing is getting a swift resolution. Rick and his team have that covered.

We enjoyed the stay, used the hot tub, enjoyed the mountain view from the balcony, and given the stocked kitchen found ourselves cooking our evening meals almost nightly. Need I say, the snow was great and we were exhausted.

Hope to see you next year, Rick.

Thanks for everything.
