Great house in close proximity to Yosemite Valley

  • 4 of 5

This was a great house for our family of 8. (Four adults and four kids.) We had a great time sitting on the patio and just enjoying nature. Unfortunately the Ferguson Fire meant we didn’t have power after the first night and the host very reasonably allowed us to cancel and refund the nights we couldn’t stay. The host was great at communicating issues re: the fire and was very concerned about our safety and experience. We hope to reschedule in the future.

The options for staying inside Yosemite are limited. This cabin was definitely better than camping or staying in an RV. The beds are acceptable and my kids enjoyed the loft. That being said I expected more at this price. The cabin is pretty old and dingy. The kitchen and bathroom are not very nice and need a serious update. The water pressure (especially in the kitchen) is extremely low. The area around the cabin has experienced a forest fire in the past few years and there are minimal trees in the view now. If I had it to do over again I would go elsewhere.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments as we value opinions and work hard to provide clean lodging for guests wishing to experience a mountain experience inside Yosemite National Park. Indeed, this is a true log cabin home which, very thankfully, has escaped the California fires which have played a part in the development of the unique ecosystems of the Sierra. We've upgraded the water system since your stay, and the new shower installation in the full bathroom downstairs is an upgrade. We have plans to remodel the kitchen in time, though really the kitchen is spacious, well lit, and very workable with it's fantastic views and all of the basics (fridge, stove, microwave, coffee pot, plenty of dishes/pots/pans). The half bath upstairs is also a great addition. As this home is inside Yosemite in the small town of Foresta, Yosemite, it is one of a kind as no where else can you get such a view into Yosemite Valley from the dining table window and huge front deck to enjoy sunrises, sunsets and evenings, and then the night stars. It is only an 11 minute drive to Bridalveil Falls, Yosemite! yet also only 8 miles to the Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias, and an hour up to Tuolumne Meadows high country. Yosemite is approximately 1200 square miles, and Foresta is nicely located on the central/west side which is ideal for visiting Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, or Tuolumne Meadows - key sites to see while in Yosemite.

Charming, and great quiet location.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay. Forresta, was so peaceful and quiet, a nice retreat from the crowds of the park. The downstairs has a bedroom with the main bathroom (shower/tub), as well as the kitchen and living area. All spacious and comfortable. The upstairs is an open loft, that also has a bedroom. The upstairs bathroom is part of the open area of the loft, with a sink and toilet. The open area has two queen beds, and then a small single bed. The bedroom, had another queen bed. Our only issue was low water pressure with the kitchen sink, which may just have been temporary...but that didn't stop us from enjoying every minute we spent there. I highly recommend staying here. The house is also the last house on the top of a little knoll, just open land behind it with beautiful views in all directions.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, We are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Half Dome View Home, Foresta. Indeed, the views are incredible into Yosemite Valley and also out west over the Merced Canyon for sunsets. Thank you for telling us about the kitchen faucet which since has been fixed and all is in good order. Come back sometime! Thank you.

Great location, nice place

  • 2 of 5

We really enjoyed staying at this cabin, which is an old-style log home. It is close to Yosemite Valley, has wonderful views out picture windows, great decks (which we didn't use in winter), a nice sitting area for a group, an adequate kitchen, and plenty of beds. It says 3 bedrooms, but it is really two bedrooms and an open loft, so in our case, we had 3 couples, and one couple had no privacy. It would be great for a family though, as there is lots of sleeping space. We were unhappy with the fact that the price quoted on VRBO is for 4 people, and then they add on a per-person charge over that. I thought this was misleading, since the final quoted price was considerably higher than we anticipated when we started the booking process. Overall, we were very happy with our stay though.
